Title: Cool Kills
Post by: Getback on September 21, 2014, 09:17:57 PM
I imagine everyone has a kill that just plays in their head. In all my years I just have 3 though I've enjoyed the sight of many folks making an unexpected kill.

When I first started in AH I flew the F4U-1D quite a bit and almost always had rockets. Just love shooting them. I was about 10k heading into a base when I spot a set of B24s upping. I thought it would be so cool to hit one with a rocket. Well I fired several rockets and missed. However one hit just below the right wing of the center drone as it was lifting. In what seemed like slow motion he was lifting and his wing was coming off. Just way too neat. That had to be 13 or 14 years ago. Haven't done it since. Not like that anyway.

About 5 or 6 years ago I was diving on an LA7 in I think an F4U-1A. He sees me and cuts under me, nice move. I chop the throttle to avoid kissing mother earth. Then he gets below the tree line and weaves between the trees expertly. Then we're both lower than the trees and he's fleeing and pulling ahead. At one point there's a gap in the trees and at between 600 and 800 yards I hit him fairly good. Then he's too far for a shot but I follow anyway below the tree line. Then the plane loses altitude slowly. he's struggling. Then boom right behind the trees I see an explosion. Just awesome in a an Apocalypse Now kind of way. Always wished I had the film of that.

That brings us to today. I was at 41 (?) after celebrating a goon kill that had landed. Okay just kidding. I get there and don't see any cons. I know my squaddie is to the west so I head that way. Here comes a P51 just slightly lower and to my left. As we merge I think he's going to go for the HO and I start putting a little tension on the elevators. But he doesn't. Instead stays to my left I nose over a hair and fire. Every single round nails the cockpit and he does the cool explosion behind me. It wasn't that I hit him it was that I hit him so very hard with a single burst.

After that I just had to call it a morning.

I just nailed a set of Tu2s in one pass in my g14.. think it was the first time i've ever gotten all three buffs in one pass. It felt pretty sweet. Going back up for more xD

Funny thing is we didn't mean to coordinate it so well. We were all being greedy and trying to take all 3 kills for ourselves.   :D

I have 2 on youtube that come to mind.  Although 1 isn't a kill but we did resupply the white flagged town before I stalked and engaged an enemy tank.
http://youtu.be/hlLco0jx-Cs?t=1m43s

I believe the range was 1.6K when I killed this guy landing with a T34
http://youtu.be/KUeDy9IUczY

The best kill I've witnessed was when Hotard singlehandedly took out about 15 players nearly simultaneously.
http://youtu.be/96LcXSQC_mk?t=13s

And then there was the time that I deserved a really cool kill against this La pilot but hitech's coding turned him into an impossiblist.

One day when I was fairly new, 6 months or so and doing ok, kikdrum kills me a couple times.

So there I am about to lose again, he's getting around on me again and if you recall him you'll know the 200 & pm's smack talk filled my screen...mBailey asks if I need help, I said yes and survived long enough to watch Bailey dispose of him, oh my the crying. From then on kikdrum was sort of a nemesis, a skilled troller and a good stick. There were days I beat him later on, but I never see him anymore, maybe changed his cs, but the Alchemists don't seem to 200'd it up anymore...it's all skyyr/kruel now.

I miss the Alchemists/kikdrum smack vs now  :(  they had a way of getting under your skin and they'd fight without advantage or wingmen.

oh well.

My favorite kill?  My 38J vs 2 P51s and a Typh on the deck after having just taken off....they BnZed me till they got frustrated and decided to start turning with me OTD....killed all 3 and landed..only got 1 cheating pm also.........The whole thing took place with my boy watching over my shoulder:D

My favorite kill was a 1v2 against two Spit XVIs.

My Ki-84 got bounced by a pair of Rainbow 16s and it wasn't looking too good.  They had more smash and the only thing I could do was to use their energy retention against them.  As we got close to the ground with both hot on my tail, I split essed.  Blacked out, I heard a boom and getting vision back, I watched the second one hit a tree.   :lol

Saw a guy bust a full set of three B17s with one shot from a field 88.  I though that was neat.

Much more common but still just plain cool is any plane that explodes when I hit them.

Killing 2 sets of b24s in a B25h

Killed 1 set of Tu2's and 1 set of lancs in one pass in a 262.

Both different sorties.

That brings us to today. I was at 41 (?) after celebrating a goon kill that had landed. Okay just kidding.

1) Actually one of my favorites is exactly that, a kill in a goon.  I was climbing my C47 to make it over a ridge line on my way to troop a base, when a P-51 spotted me from above.  As he dove in, I considered my options and realized I had enough alt to cut throttle and do a split-S. The Pony followed me down and augered at the bottom! I proudly landed that maneuver kill after trooping the base.  (Who said proxies are meaningless!)

There are so many in fighters, so here's two shore-battery ones:

2) I pop into a short-battery to hit a CV nearing our base.  With my first shot out, I'm zoomed all the way in to spot the fall of the round.  I see suddenly a big blob on the back of the boat -- a mission taking off!  Luckily for me, my round lands directly on the rear deck of the CV and 13 kills appear in my buffer all at once.  :devil

3) Another time in a SB, I see a flight of Tu-2's coming in low (about 6K) toward the base, so I decide to take a pot shot at them.  I guestimate some lead and put a round out.  The round explodes the center bomber and the splash damage removes the inner wings on both of the drones.  As both drones spiral out of the air, I see the pilot switch between them figuring one of his bombers must be OK -- they weren't.  That was fun to watch.

With so many different things to do and try, this game can be really fun. :)

I remember a cool kill when I was reasonably new...I got in the middle of things and a hurri II latched on piloted by GRIM ... he proceeded to shoot me and I actually had my plane stripped of parts...at the time I thought that was wicked as it was the first time I had been totally ripped to bits before I died...In retrospect it had to be one volley of bullets that just destroyed my plane in this way as one, GRIM was damned lethal in that thing and two, once the first wing came off it was all down hill from there and I wasn't very far from the ground but only my cockpit and prop were left....This was back when you lost the whole bellybutton end

And on the other side of the bullets would have to be my first two in one kill... in the middle of a furball I was just completing a barrel roll when two cons flew under me chasing a friendly...my barrel roll ended as the two cons were basically side by side 200 from the piper.... squeezed and held the trigger and got both in one volley.... I was quite stoked at that

Bailey:

That was fun, kikdrum really had it out for after that for a long time. I wonder where he went, he was a good stick; I just wouldn't ever tell him because of the troll attitude. But I have to respect that he'd fight in any circumstance, often he chose to have the advantage but he'd get down in the weeds and put himself in harm's way.

I don't really care much anymore who wins the dogfight as long as I get a fight out of them; of course winning always feels better.

Didn't really have one that I could remember until last night.

After a semi long 3v1 with a 190D, spit8, and p51 in my c205 low in the canyons, I got all 3 to simultaneously auger all at the same time into the side of the mountain. Was great success :D

The new strat locations have provided some good opportunities when the enemy drives tanks to our strats.

I've gotten into some classic cat and mouse stalking of GV's in our city or other strats........while in a GV.

Why up a f4u and bomb**** a tank at our city when you the thrill reward of driving a tank there and delivering ownage on equal terms is much more rewarding?

Heres a couple:

I ran into Sawzaw in his 109K4.  I was in a KI and had a bit of advantage at the merge.  This is fight we have had more than a few times and I think with my advantage at the merge I will be winning this one.  I had 2 or 3 good gun solutions as we got slower and slower but couldn't hit him hard enough.  Since he is missing parts and smoking, I gave up the last of my E to get another shot and it worked...sort of.  I had sprites all over his already injured, smoking plane but not enough.  With some torque and whatever control surfaces he has left, he gets his nose around on my totally intact KI and puts a tater through it.

I once chased a 51 out of furball.  He was faster but I was headed that way so I followed him as he went home.  1/2 way he turns around, we merge and to my surprise he is dumping E and popping flaps to get around on me instead of zooming.  No problem, I have the better plane for this fight, this will be fun...wait, my wing just got shot off?  BigR flys away.

One where I won:

I was in Stuka looking for GVs as a guy is causing trouble in the area in a 234.  He is screaming by but will pass in range so I flip the nose around and fire a couple big cannon rounds way, way, way out in front of him just for grins.  One takes off a wing and he flutters down.

years ago, when you could still maneuver when blacked out, Hacksaw and I were fighting a pair of 51's in a H2H room, I was in a Hurri 2 (as usual), not sure what Hack was in, but both nme 51's were moving to get Hack's 6, I pulled in behind, went into blackout before I had guns on them, but as up until then all of us could "feel" when the shot would be about right, squeezed a few rounds off, heard a boom, and relaxed on the stick to come out of the blackout and get eyes on the pony that was left.

Couldn't find it!, Hack was laughing his prettythang off, I'd killed both of them with the one squirt while blinded by blackout!

Around 2007 or 2008, when I first started playing this sim, I scored my first ever kill in a p39 by hoeing an f4u. At that time, I didn't know what "hoeing" was in the context of this game. I'll never forget the sight of my nose cannon making contact with that corsair's engine as his tracers flew above and below me. I can't remember that player's handle, but if he still plays and remembers that encounter: Salutes and apologies to you sir.  Two or three years after that, I upped a yak9u to investigate a flashing town and flew into the middle of an noe raid. It was composed of p38s, ponies, a goon and a vic of b25s. I scored 10 kills because the guys all augered after bombs away, except for the goon. It was parked nearby and was the only enemy plane I actually killed.

If I may add: while I was playing as schnapps I found myself manning a shore battery one day and killed an obsurd number of pt boats and landing craft as they were trying to take our town. I kept receiving private messages asking if I was German. :headscratch:

My best ever was not a kill. It was the prevention of one.  I had kills during the sortie, atleast three. I was flying a 262 and saw a box of Lancasters slightly higher than I was.  I dove just a bit to pick up incredible speed and from a low 10 pulled up to attack.  I got all three in one pass :airplane: :rock
Little did I realize I had been discovered! and after my attack run I suddenly started receiving lots of hits from an aircraft I had not seen. I do not know what it was (but seriously its a jug or a pony) I was nose up attitude when I started getting hit so I did the only thing I could think of which is push the stick as far as I could into a dive, ignoring the redout in a desperate attempt to survive. I dove from probably 12k. When I was able to regain my vision I realized I was worse than a 90 degree nose down and the ground was coming up FAST. I pulled so hard back up that as the plane creaked I induced a blackout as I screamed towards the ground. While blacked out I heard the hit. :uhoh
But I did not go to the tower :headscratch: It turns out I was SO close that I clipped trees and not the ground doing over 650ias. When I awoken from the blackout I was almost 12k in height and starting to stall. I then, now a glider as both my engines were ruined, nosed down and glided almost a full sector to a friendly base. (which was under attack by two P47s, of course)  I slammed it into the pavement and somehow landed it.
That was my best/worst sortie ever.
