Congrats Uncle Ghost.

Your nephew would very much appreciate it if you would take care of him, now and again, so that his parents can grab a nap.

Just thought I'd mention that.

Just remember dogs and cats.

Boy are like dogs. Girls are like cats.

Boys like dogs like to play and rough house but generally all in good fun. Eventually they can be trained and as they mature are good protectors and still occasionally like to fight, rough house and generally have fun.
Boys, like dogs generally dont do much manipulating

Girls... Well girls are like cats because they pretty much know how to bear claws and are willing to scratch your eyes out right out of the box. Likewise they institutionally learn how to manipulate right from the get and can even be caught practicing such tactics by themselves. My wife has actually caught my daughter practicing the sad face while saying "pleeese" in the mirror one day when she wasnt much more then a toddler.

Also. When you have a girl. You essentially dont have another child. What you have is another wife that will think nothing of sending you out for ice cream at 10 PM. And you will do it because just like your wife. And to some extent even moreso Because she has you wrapped right around her little finger and she knows it.

Whereas with a son you may not hesitate to say "I just worked all day. Im not going out again just to get you ice cream"

With a daughter. She knows that all she has to do is say "Daddy, will you please (insert task)" and as though you were in a hypnotized trance. You will do it no matter the circumstance. There could be 6 feet of snow on the ground, hurricane force winds, a raging gunfight in the street, fallout from a nuclear explosion. It wont matter. You will do it anyway just because she asked you to. In the case if ice cream your only statement will be "what flavor?"

A daughter is a fathers kryptonite

Oh and I didnt EVEN go into what happens when they go through those teenage years.

Lets just say. You hope your wife goes through menopause before that takes place. If not. Well, lets just say Welcome to the Twilight Zone

Congrats on being an uncle.  Being around a new baby, even if it isn't your child, is a great reminder of whats important in life.  Great time to use that feeling and motivation to make some changes.

And remember this, young Jedi:  There are no re-runs.  Savor every moment, because you won't get it back.

Theres only one bad thing about children. They just get older to fast. I wish I'd have had a 1/2 dozen. Its like in a eye blink he went from being a baby to being in my old USAF unit.
