Title: Voice Questions
Post by: Hooligan on March 13, 2002, 10:20:15 PM
I never want the room channel to be active.  How can I turn it off?

How can I hide/redisplay the voice dialog?

Is there anyway to get a private channel, one that is password protected or that only squaddies can get on?

You can ".squelch room" and it will give you message that the room has been squelched, but it doesn't seem to work yet.  You can still hear everyone.  Hopefully this will be fixed.

If you are talking about the box in the upper right hand corner with all the names in it... it goes away in flight, but have yet to find a way to hide it in the tower.

you can move the annoying box down to a corner so that only a teensy little bit of it shows.    What the hell is the voice box anyway and who are all those people in it?   I didn't ask to pal around with em.

After being forced to listen to some anonymous prepubescent idiot spouting in graphic detail, via the room vox, about what he would REALLY like to hear like Miss "Base Under Attack" say and do I have to say it needs an off/on toggle - or one that works asap.

I actually like the room vox a lot. It adds a new depth to AH that no other sim/game has ever had and it really make me feel like I'm online with a lot of people and not just icons - indicating people.  But it has one major problem. An example of which I wrote of above.

The question, for me,  is how to kill or block these few morons who will abuse the new feature? The old text based radio traffic was bad enough, IMO, now I have to "hear" the same and worse? When more realise what they can get away with while being completely anonymous I'm sure there will be more complaints.

Also need to be able to block room vox for when I'm on a mission or trying to focus on squaddies during ops.

Otherwise, I love the release!  The issue on 'room vox' and one other where I saw frequent winking in and out of enemy icons at close range (like the disapearing icon bug we had once a long time ago) while flying the BF-110 are the only things I see need some more work. Thanks HTC!

"or trying to focus on squaddies during ops."

We have ops now???  Why doesn't anyone tell me these things?

I haven't tried 1.09 yet, but I vote for an OFF switch for the room vox.

how bout a command:

.squelch voice xxxxxx

If someone's being an idiot

I gotta say I see enormous potential for the voice system for missions and such.   Also taunting during Wild Wednesday.  :p

You can get rid of 'squeaking Betty' by renaming the 'warning.wav' file (or deleating).  I was able to stop the other voices by sliding everything in the 'setup/voice' to the left.

Has anyone tried squelching the person you don't want to hear with the normal squelch command? I don't know if that will squelch them in AHV or not.

No idea. Second question is how do you identify who it is being a jerk?  Vox does not have any indication of who is speaking in the "room" whether you're in the tower or in the air.  My example was flying at a base with about 12-24 friendlies all in close proxomity. Hence the anonymous issue I mentioned - which just isn't an issue for text based radio traffic when you want to squelch that.

Besides I can always squelch Dago when he sings on our squad channel as I recognize the howling sound ;)

Yes it does Westy. Whoever is speaking shows in red text, top right corner of screen.

? Hmm.   I never saw that. I must have missed it so I'll look for that next time I'm on. If it does then issue solved imo! :)  As long as the regular squelch comand works with room/range vox.

I think I know exactly who you're referring to.  I too would like to see an OFF/ON toggle, as well as individual squelching ability.  Although in this case I almost busted up laughing, I can see where it might rapidly become a problem (won't be funny after 1000 times).

Flying around with that new VOX was great; far from it being annoying I actually liked it a lot.  I might have to invest in a mic that actually works.  HTC was smart and added volume control for it, something which was always lacking with AW vox.  How far in-flight does the "room" for vox extend?

I LOVE the room list; it's great to see who's sitting there in the tower with ya!  One more feature that turns your co-players into real people instead of just "names in the text buffer".

I think the Range of the Room Vox while in flight is within Icon range.

Yeah, the room list is a huge win in this release. Going to the roster and hitting room was something I never wanted to bother with.  Particularly when you are trying to get the squad all on the same page, it helps to know whose missing.  Easily and quickly.

Had no problems with range channel.  I think that the large maps will help too, as there wont be so many people in earshot.
