You may ask yourself but why raynos would you fly the p39? WELL LET ME TELL YOU WHY.
1.There is no escaping your opponents. 99% of the planes attacking you are faster then you so dont have to worry about people calling you a running noob :neener:.
2. You're the whoopee sexiest fighter out there and it makes your opponents Jelly forcing them to come down to you :cheers:.
3. With the p39D you're sitting with 4x303s,2x50s,1x37mm CANNON (dont u dare take a 20mm gun package *stares at latrobe* :mad:).
4. With the Q you have the climbing ability to even zoom climb with the pesky 109k4s long enough to splurt a giant 37mm round into the deepest parts of there planes.
5. YOU HAVE A BIG 37MM GUN CAPABLE OF MAKING TANKS EXPLODE B17S MINCEMEAT AND TURN FIGHTERS TO ASHES.
6. Your sexy and it has a 37mm gun.
7. People will think you're me while flying it and be more cautious/
8. it cant roll right at all against it torque when slow and lacks a rudder like the 109, but it has the most amazing slow stall move ever and i wont share it :devil.
9. For all those who have wet dreams of shooting down any of the Damned Topgun AoM or any squad that makes you mad this is the plane for you. They cant help but dive on a "helpless" p39 and then you can show them why its called the Cobra.
10. Nothing is sweeter then getting kills with this p39s 37mm gun with a rate of fire that allows for 1 bullet for every year you know they are mad when they die.
11. Spitdweebs will cry when you are owning them :ahand. Runstangs will curse when you're owning them :ahand. and best of all when you kill Anarchy's k4 he will be pissed (i can tell you this from many experiences) :devil.

You convinced me. After being shamed by my small 20mm cannon in my 38g I gave a pink 39q sporting 4 .50s and a 37mm a try for one sortie tonight. Surprisingly I kinda liked it :uhoh. I engaged a pony and flung a few taters at him missing horribly only to have him turn around and shoot my cannon out leaving me only 4 .50s. I ended up shooting the pony down and was promptly ganged by a spit and ki84 sending me to the tower. I may have to give it a go again. :aok

My god, I forgot it had a pink skin! I want one.
I flew a 39 once and got on a 109k tail, but he out ran the 37mm cannon shells.
True story.

I'm pretty sure he meant the 39's rudder doesn't work as well as the 109. Not that the 109s rudder didn't work well.

I hit a 190 with three 37mm shells and it did no damage then I hit some Lancs and the first lanc was hit 7 or 8 times with the 37 and the second Lanc around 5 times.
I reviewed the film to confirm they were tators and not 50cal doing the damage.
Is that normal for those shells?

Sounds like you hit the AH tator bug. I thought it would've been fixed by now. Back when I was playing I counted 7 30mm hits on the film to a lancs tail at a 90 degree angle from my 262, it lost half of the elevator.

It probably didn't even hit. I doubt it cause I have never had a tater hit that did no damage at all to an aircraft. If he's not dead or engine out then it's usually a horizontal stab.
Edit: I have seen a jug taken one before but that's a jug though, I have seen maybe three events like this happen and it is nowhere near as often an event as people say it is.

Nope i rarely record and when i do only about 1/4th actually save correctly but its happened to often for my liking once had to hit a spitfire 3x for it to go down(last time it happened was like 3 months ago though ;). But back on track to why the p39 is amazing.

Never EVER EVER take the 4x50cal package on the Q I MEAN NEVER EVER.
1. It breaks with in the 1st ping of a bullet hitting your wing.
2. Fly a 109g14 with 30mm and Gondies and a bomb and you'll still prefer that over the Q with 4x50s

Just take the 2x50cal with 37mm its very deadly when you are 200 out on there 6 almost half my kills alone are just the 2x50s in the p39Q plus it can take some sick battle damage.

I counted 7 hits.
I think the fuselage damage model on Bombers is too tough. Hitting Buffs in the fuselage takes 7-10 taters to kill the buff if they are distributed. It may take 5-6 if they all hit the aft section. Seems like too many.

P-39 is fun, when bendits agressively turn fight you. If they e-fight you, or run, it's a lesson in futility. :salute
plane lights up like a Zeke. 40% of my deaths in it are by fire.
37mm is big fun when you land it, but landing it is the toughest gunnery challenge in game. Field guns, whirbles, Osti's, YakT 37mm, 30mm taters, 50mm BK, 40mm HJurri are all easier to get hits with. :eek:

Most of my P-39s have a habit of losing the v-stab in short order. :cry

The P-39 is not a bad plane. It handles great at speed; it turns decently at low speed; it climbs well at lower alts; it's reasonably fast on the deck; it's small and hard to hit.

Anyone who has any interest in the P-39 should go online and track down a copy of "Nanette: Her Pilot's Love Story" by Edwards Park. Probably my favorite WW2 book, and the closest thing to required reading that we have in the 80th.

You can fly both in Combat Challenge. You can fly both axis and allies as long as the sides remain relatively even throughout the event.

I know you love that little flying garden snake, but let's not let our infatuation cause us to say silly things! Any flavor of yak fighter will more than handle the P39. The Rooskies loved the P39 because we gave them to them, they were fairly maneuverable (moreso than the Lagg3) and had a big gun. But for air to air use against fighters? Not even close. Yak > Airacobra. :neener:

5000 P-39's (and not all P-39Q's but earlier variants) vs. 10,000 Yak-3's and La-7's. ;) (I think La-7's with only 2 cannons are still OK.)

He was willing to at first, but after a friend of his died while landing one he immediately went back to the P39, I doubt flew the LA7 in any combat sorties. Rumor has it that the only plane he ended up taking over his beloved p39, was the epic P63

If you're referring to Soviet ace Alexander Pokryshkin, his friend Alexander Klubov was killed while trying to land a La-7.

From what I read the Russians liked the quality build and finish of the P39. If you throw the Russian P39 aces in with all the Allied Aces a bunch of them will end up at the top of the list.
Ive been flyin the 39Q in game and it isn't so bad considering what you are up against. I just wish the 37mm had a higher rate of fire. It feels like it holds it E decent. The D seems a bit more fragile. I threw it into a 500 mph dive once and it broke! :eek: :D
I even got Bozon flying a "obsolete" <his word hehehe> P39 the other day! He seemed to of enjoyed the big cannon! :D :aok Huzzah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Happens to me all the time. Shoot a Lancaster in the trailing edge of its wing.

Interesting plane but not amazing. Makes me think of the chevy corvair. On the edge of being good but just had too many flaws. Lot's of coolness. I give it that.
