I am guessing the are inextricably linked but with all of the drawbacks that PTs already have, (impossible to hide on the big open sea, (especially considering wake,) difficult to land, fragile,) it would be nice if their presence wasn't made so unambiguously clear.

Was definitely hard to play sneaky Water-Wirble off an enemy coastline with the 'here it is' indicator.

Well the same thing could be said for the LVTs also! Well when you think about it the same argument could be made for Jeeps, M3s, M8s, M18s............Lets lose the GV Dar all together!
I would pay $30 a month for that gladly!!!

As long as there are toolbags using PT's solely as ack platforms to mess up dogfights in the air, the GV dar is necessary.

Then why did they put all those MGs on the boats if not to pick off the pesky gulls?
If you're down on the water or diving towards a PT you can see from 6k away, then you might not be dogfighting, especially if you're in MG range.

The gv dar is so large it takes most a few minutes to find the target...
and btw... the gv can always not go straight to its intended destination :D

Are you minus one-ing PT Dar or GV Dar in general?
-
Since we know with in reason most GV will be at most 3 miles out from a field, A flashing ring or even a dot over the field icon on the map as a response to only GV in the area might be more within the established style of GV fighting here in AH. Make the sensor area a 3mile radi. Even for the PT, it would be less of a give away since you can see a PT quickly from a plane once you are a few hundred feet up. While most players would be thinking GV versus PT. Do we really need to know someone is driving a GV 50miles to the HQ when once they were inside of 3miles the warning flash would begin. That would give them some time to try and do damage while the jabo was on it's way.

The guys who complained about long drives with GV or boats are the same people who ignored all the raging clues until after 5 hours of no radar.

I'm not happy with this.....
I don't know why but thought I would be the first to complain about it

only noticed the ptboat because ack was shooting at it. then somebody mentioned there was a ptboat. if you are 6 or 7k only way you can see them is if the ack is shooting.

super furious now....

Can one of you describe what the problem is with not having the PT show up on GV DAR?
-
When I check the roster and I see a sneaky player on...It will take me longer to find them
-
Unfortunately now pt to pt fights will be harder to find.

Not as long as it will if I change my game ID.......

Trying to speak for Hitech's reasons does not work.
I can surmise though about GVDAR and it implementation. After building 4 terrains, the first three I was not as prepared as I thought to create venues for GV's to have more fun than the tree infested heckholes our AH2 converted terrains became with the new Speedtree vegetation. Hitech mentioned he had always had a GVDAR in mind but had not implemented it. I'm surmising he was not prepared either for how badly the new trees impacted GV's finding each other while getting entangled too easily in. Nor how well the new trees and bushes made it for a GV to become permanently invisible without customers wasting their play time hunting down a single GV. AHfilm became the gamey answer and still is.
The amount I opened up the trees with FjordMA to bring AH3 GV combat back to what was remembered in AH2 entailed a reduction of almost 80% of trees in a square mile. At least on that terrain getting stuck in a tree is something a player has to work at on purpose. And this only took me 3 terrains to acheive doing gradually more reduction in tree density to understand.
So the current GVDAR may well be in place becasue of the trees and all the problems related to them. Still, now with 3 years of experience by the community, I think defining a trigger radius from the field and a separate map identifier pops up while the GV is inside of that trigger radius is more than enough to help GVers and flyers know to sally forth. The red blocks with time and experience give away the GV's location.
