Title: Better stall & buffer sounds
Post by: Krupinski on August 25, 2017, 03:59:26 PM
Personally I've grown tired of listening to the buzzing of the default stall noises, so I spent a few minutes messing with FMOD. While I didn't get very far, and the implementation of these sounds isn't perfect, I'm gonna put this here if anyone wants to try them. I didn't create these sounds, so if I'm breaking any rules I apologize and I'll gladly take them down. (You'll also notice the intro music is changed)

Simply download this zip file, then unzip or drag and drop the contained CustomSounds folder into your main Aces High directory, and to remove them just delete the same folder.

Cool, I'll check it out when I get home from work.

What kind of files are these? I thought AH used WAVs. AHII anyway. No speakers on my new PC.  :uhoh

Awesome horble.

The original files I used are .WAVS, but the intro music is an .mp3

I think you can use any type of audio file as long as FMOD supports it.

I got .bank files when I unzipped it. Never seen those before.

What's the name of the song?

MOON - Dust

Yeah the .bank files are just how it all gets compressed in FMOD, they're not individual sound files. I'm not exactly sure how it works to be honest.

Thanks, works great.  At least I think so.  The change is very seemless.  It's hard to tell when I hear it ( I mean it does the job and alerts you, but it doesn't nag you). :salute

Will try when I get home - I've thought about doing this myself, but with the Gun Sounds. Is FMOD included in the AH installation? at work so I can't check

Shilo,

  • Simply download the zip file, then
  • unzip or drag and drop the contained CustomSounds folder into your main Aces High directory, and
  • to remove them just delete the same folder.

On my system Windows 8.1 Pro:
I noticed that when I first extracted the folder into my Aces High directory, it was blocked by my malware check software on my system.  My system does that to all files that come from another source.  I right clicked on the the folder and selected properties, after it was properly located and then simply checked "unblock".  Sounds could then be heard.

If this does not help.  Answer this checklist please:

If there is anything above that you are not sure of, or were not able to locate then I suspect that you either did not "UNZIP" and "EXTRACT" the "CustomSounds" FOLDER into the proper DIRECTORY.  The sure fire way to check to see if it did load correctly is to check to see if your intro music has changed.  (I had my "MUSIC" turned down using the GAME SOUNDS button and then slider inside of the game.)  When you hear string music instead of drumroll music for the intro you have done it properly, congratulations.

Thank you! Used Mitsu's old stall sound for years in AH2. Been wishing for a new one to replace that horn/buzzer since the switch to AH3. Can't believe I'm just now seeing this. Yours sounds good!

Well I cannot get these new sounds to work. Unzipped folder and dragged CuustomSounds folder to AHIII directory.  Path is ... E>Hitech Creations>AcesHighIII> CustomSounds> CustomSounds>Desktop> (4.bank files are listed).  Doesn't replace music when I load AHIII...so it apparently is not working.

I also tried to just put .bank files into customsounds folder in AHIII. Path there is...E>Hitech Creations>Aces High III> Custom Sounds>(4 of the .bank files). No joy.

So, what am I doing wrong?

there shouldn't be two custom sounds directories.

so just  rename the first one, and then drag the one inside it directly into the AcesHighIII folder.

should end up with AcesHighIII>CustomSounds>Desktop>bankfiles

also you must have the Desktop folder so that's why your other try didn't work.

  Thanks Kanth...it worked.

Krupinski...good work, a definite improvement over the annoying buzzing! The music is very nice and I will leave it on now (I had the default music off).

Thanks for responding to my pm horble.

Downloaded and tried it out today.  It’s a nice improvement from the Cessna sounding stall warning buzzer.  It’s has a more realistic sound of a fighter without an aural stall warning.  Well done! 👍

Nice music and the stall sound reminds me of the sounds of "stalling" in none stall horn civilian aircraft. Is this the stall sound from one of the IL2 productions?
