Title: Patch 69
Post by: Skuzzy on July 31, 2015, 01:59:42 PM
New patch up (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,373961.0.html)!

No, I did not stutter!

Tested at 80 FOV. Vsync, shadows, post lighting off and the environment slider to "None".  Stutters were much reduced. Turned off ground clutter and stutters stopped.

no stutter, was not a problem prior to patch. no noticeable frame rates diff with or without vysnc on. frame rate still 12 to 15 but plays rather well at that. get up to 20 in a chute. everything turned off.

If I am in a chute in the water it get up to 35

sheep map

this map had more stuttering than others, fps comparable.

In all cases I just flew around the field I took off from, banged around the views.

No stutters on the sheep map. All settings set as requested. Only FPS change was as I climbed higher the FPS went up of course. Down low (less then 100') FPS stayed in the 70s with vsync off.

Stutter testing per the setup in the sticky:

Ran all 4 terrains offline in both a P-38L and an M-8. I had the stutter issue in 3 of the 4 terrains with the Beta being the worst and Waffle's being the best. The Sheep terrain was so flat and generally lacking in "stuff" on the ground I didn't have an issue with that one as I did with the others. When flying over the 3 after gaining 1K or so FR goes up and any noticeable stutters disappear.

The problem is far worse in a vehicle than a plane. In a vehicle moving at around 30mph looking in the forward hemisphere it's worse. Between 11 and 1 is better. Between 11 and 9 and also between 1 and 3 is worst. Of those it seemed one would be worse than the other depending on which side was the "busier" one with more trees, etc. Looking in the whole rear hemisphere it's hardly noticeable.

In a plane it's again not very noticeable. Maybe due to the speed? If it's making any difference at all it's flying low around fairly wooded areas. Over generally clear areas or over water there's no problem at all.

I'd say this version seems to be making progress. I'm noticing it because I'm looking specifically for it but it's getting better I think.

In any case there's a noticeable difference when turning off clutter. Noticeable as in the problem disappears entirely.

Set up settings as instructed then went in Capture the Flag arena to test as follows:

Using a XFX BE Radeon R9 290X vid card:

Flying low over the terrain I noticed some very faint microstuttering (you had to look close to pick it up) w/ FPS running between 74-85. Out over the water all smoothed out w/ FPS between 192-220. Once over the terrain & went up in alt all smoothed out w/ FPS between 174 (during manoevering) to 365 (looking up into the sky).

Took a snippet of my vid card's vitals after flying this test cycle & this may explain the microstuttering:

(http://s17.postimg.org/tumktqip7/R9_290_X_2560x1440_AH3_Stutter_Test_8_1_15.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/tumktqip7/)

As you can see, the Alpha is putting a LOAD on this vid card w/ the settings as currently set!
100% GPU usage, full GPU clocks, full mem clocks, GPU temps at the 90*C mark w/ fan speeds @ 95%-100%

Reminds me of Scotty in the Star Trek series......"That's all she's got, Captn!"

PS--Here is a good example of how AMD PowerTune 2.0 will perform if you allow the GPU to heat up as close to the 95*C threshold as the AMD engineers said to do as they stated that this Hawaii GPU is built to run consistently at this temp, but it's AB's fan profile that makes the difference along w/ XFX's DD cooling solution as you cannot get 100% fan speed from AMD's OverDrive (max is 55% & PowerTune would have throttled the GPU back making the stutters worse).
Yes, this is a tough concept to swallow but it does work as it was intended. If I had v-synch enabled you wouldn't see this as v-synch won't allow the card to run flat out due to my monitor (60Hz refresh=60 FPS max) & so the GPU won't be pushed as hard. This is something to keep in mind w/ an AMD Radeon R9 series vid card w/ a monitor's RR >60 Hz being used w/ this Alpha.............

Putting this out there for reference.................... .

 :salute

Another PS--Using Cat 15.7.1 WHQL drivers w/ reduced Flip Query Size setting (same as Nvidia # of CPU frames before GPU rendering starts...helps w/ control input lag & speeds things up a little).

Stutters just about nearly all gone.  Like Pudgie was saying you have to look very close to even notice it is there.  That was in a ground vehicle with all default settings ( I realize those were not the instructions).

I call this one a WINNER.  Also, had a blast with Doc4 camping, I mean testing ground vehicles :x

BUG FOUND in ground vehicle's pintle gun, no muzzle flash  M18, M8, Tiger 2, M4 all that were tested.  :salute

Here is a snippet of the same test w/ v-synch enabled. You can see the card load is less but the game performance is just as smooth.
GPU speeds avg 984-1050, mem speed pegged at 1250, GPU temps steady at 83*F-85*F & GPU usage is much less.

With all enabled I get a little stutter every now & then when flying low over terrain but when I select "Turn off ground clutter when in flight" all is smooth as silk regardless.

FYI.......................... .

Snippet is kinda misaligned due to operator error but the data is there........... :old: :D

Still unable to transition from water to land in an LVT.

No stutters though.  :aok

Invisible GV trap, where my M3 carrying a pennant away from my base was stopped completely and could not move in any direction.  Unknown if it was because I was returning another field's pennant toward's that field, or a glitch.  I was discoed soon afterwards @ 9:50 am EST.

The P-38 and P-51 wing rock fully loaded on auto pilot. In F3 mode you can see the ailerons moving.

Edit: Took another look at the P-51 and you can see the stick move side to side in the cockpit.

I tried to duplicate a patch 68 'stutter?' in patch 69 but that part seems fixed.

In patch 68, I noticed that in a B17, F3 outside view, and F8 pan view, if I positioned my Point of View over the plane and rotated, the ends of the wings weren't drawn smoothly but that's fixed in this patch 69.

Probably nothing, but when moving that POV to directly overhead and trying to rotate, it appeared that the F4 view was over-riding my view and my POV would swing back and forth instead of rotating in a complete circle.

Left over from AH2, the drones 'stutter' a bit when rotating in the F3 F8 view combination but that's not surprising.

In capture the flag there was a tile not displaying correctly.  The ground surface existed because I hit it, but the tile is dislaying at 0ft with water around.  Copprhed was also seeing the same thing.

Tested in offline mode for stutter by making low passes over town.  I tested both with the recommended test settings, then put everything back where I had it before.  Environment at 2, everything else on. The stutter I had noticed before where it appeared choppy below 1k alt even though measured frame rate was 60+ appears to be gone.

Ran stutter test using AMD R9 FuryX vid card set up as requested by Skuzzy:

In Capture the Flag Arena:

Low over the terrain getting FPS from 74-107 w/ the same very faint microstutter as noted in earlier test ran on my AMD R9 290X vid card.

Higher in alt all silky smooth w/ FPS from 116-232.

Looking straight up silky smooth w/ FPS topping out at 399.

Wasn't any water close by at this particular base (didn't note the #) so don't have any info for that.

Here is a snippet of the FuryX's vitals while flying this test cycle:

(http://s3.postimg.org/d3r2xs1b3/AMD_R9_Fury_X_2560x1440_AHIII_Stutter_Test_8_7_15.jpg) (http://postimg.org/image/d3r2xs1b3/)

As you can see, the Alpha does indeed put a load on this FuryX but it also appears that the FuryX can handle it MUCH, MUCH better than my R9 290X ever could.

So using this vid card w/ a 144Hz monitor w/ the Alpha is in the cards........................ ..

We'll see what the final product looks like by the time all lines up for me to pick 1 up..................

The monitor will definitely be the Asus MG279Q IPS 144Hz Free-sync LCD.

I've only seen a prism light response at night once. A crystal was hanging in the dark room I was standing in. A car's high beam came through the window and there was enough luminosity to scatter light in a momentary prism effect from the crystal. Other wise, that last nighttime screen capture in the previous post might suggest an anime movie, where the pilot took magic shrooms and the focus of the moment is an attempt to let you look through his shroom drugged out eyes.

Stutter test  MSI 390
FOV 106
1920x1080  settings as recommended, tree detail sliders at highest.
FPS on the runway P-38l 126
FPS low alt 113-135 over land and through mountains.
FPS in air 190-230 default view , highest saw 399 looking up
Can still see a small micro stutter at low alt , but it's much better than previous patches

I FINALLY was able to transition from water to land at a port. As stated by Smoke44 in another thread, you have to be over past the deep water. :P

FPS on the runway P-51 105
FPS low alt 105-132 over land
FPS in air 105-165 default view look up it went to 285
Can't tell much about any stutter still might be a very very small stutter at low alt , but this is awsume still running 70+ degrees Celsius on card temp
