Title: Dueling Bracket & Results
Post by: BaldEagl on July 20, 2009, 09:19:31 AM
[EDIT] Pre-first:  Skuzzy, could you sticky this until the tourney ends?  Thanks.

First a re-post of the rules.  I added a section on posting films for contested duels:

Rules:

- Brackets will be determined by random draw of names out of a hat (or other convenient container).
- If there are odd numbers of players I will work them into the brackets although they may have to fly more or less rounds than other players.  They will be those chosen last in the random draw.
- Duels must be arranged between the players by PM, IM, e-mail or other means to take place by midnight CDT Sunday following each bracket update (6 days).
- Duels will be best of three.
- First duel plane selection will be assigned using a random number generator to select from all availble fighter and fighter/attack aircraft (except the Me163 and Me262).  This will be done individually for each set of duelers.
- The loser of each duel selects the aircraft for the next duel.  This allows the loser to pick his/her best aircraft to get back into contention and if it goes three rounds each player will have had one plane selection.
- All duels will take place in the DA canyon area.
- All duels will be 25% fuel loadout with players choice of gun package and convergence.
- All merges will be guns cold (no firing until you have passed your opponent's 3/9 line).
- All merges will be co-alt at 10K until within icon range at which point a merge break can begin.
- Anything goes after the initial merge.
- In the case of a draw (both run out of fuel for instance) that duel will be re-fought using the same aircraft.
- In the case of a collision:
   * If only one player collides (only one gets the collision message) the duel continues.
   * If both players collide (both get the collision message) the duel immediately ends and will be re-started in the same planes.
- Intentionally ditching or bailing constitutes forfieture of the duel.
- The intent is for players to remain in close proximity to one another (2-3K max).  That said if at any time the players lose icon range on one another the duel ends immediately and will be re-started using the same planes.  This should allow a dueler to simply turn away from a runner to nullify the duel.
- If an uninvited third party interrupts the duel the duel is immediately ended and will be re-started using the same plane.  The dueling participants may move to another mutually agreed upon set of fields in the DA in this instance.
- Once one player has been shot down and the other recieves a kill message the duel ends.  There is no need to land.
- Both players will film all duels in case of a dispute.
- The losing player will post in this thread after the duel series in the following format:

   Plane - Winner
   Plane - Winner
   Plane - Winner (if needed)

The loser posting is a means to verify that the results are uncontested.  If the loser hasn't posted by the deadline then the winner may post the results but they will be deemed contested.
- If a duel series is contested the contesting player must post their films at a public hosting web-site and link them to this thread by the deadline.  It will be preferred if both players do this.
- This information must be posted by no later than 12:00 midnight Central Daylight Time Sunday following the posting of the updated bracket so that I can get the brackets updated and re-posted on Monday.
- If a player does not show within 15 minutes of the arranged time they forfiet the series.  In that case the winner by default must post a screenshot of the DA roster showing that the opponent is a no show no later than 12:00 midnight CDT Sunday following posting of the updated bracket.
- If a duel cannot be arranged between the players or nothing has been posted regarding results in the alloted time one player will be selected by random draw to advance to the next round.
- In the case of contested results both players films will be reviewed by the review committee and a determination will be posted no later than 48 hours after the initial posting deadline.  The review committee may overturn posted results.  If a clean determination of a winner cannot be made a winner will be selected by random draw.  The review committee's determination will be final.  Because this will delay both the winner's and his/her next opponent's ability to arrange their next duel it is in the best interest of everyone that the players reach an agreeable conclusion to their duels on their own.  In any case, then next duels deadlines WILL NOT be delayed.
- The initial bracket will be posted on Monday, July 20 and each Monday thereafter until a winner has been determined.

Bald you should rephrase the merge alt rule to specify ceiling is 10K until icon.
And (just a suggestion) unless otherwise agreed upon by the duelers, when the plane has more than one loadout, light gun package is default.

Hey im flying under a different callsign as of friday.. sorry.

Care to let us in on what it is?

are you serious 110's   they should not even be on the list.

been in that plane maybe 5 times in 6 years.

The rules did state all fighter and fighter/attack aircraft and it's only the first duel.  I feel sorry for the guys who got the C.202 and the Spit MkI who will have to stay on the tail of another of the same pounding relentlessly to take them down.

Bald you should rephrase the merge alt rule to specify ceiling is 10K until icon.
And (just a suggestion) unless otherwise agreed upon by the duelers, when the plane has more than one loadout, light gun package is default.

10K cieling it is.  That was my intent.

No worries, as long as everyone else is ok, I am ok with the substitution.

I'm OK with it but no more substitutions from here on out.  I'm only allowing this one because wuzel had asked to withdraw and I placed him anyway.

I had considered running a "best of the rest" bracket after the first round for the first round losers.  I decided against that as it wouldn't be fair to do that for the first round losers and not the second round, third round, etc.

If you're having fun though, I would encourage you to arrange an informal duel with the loser of the (other) bracket that you would have faced had you won.  That way at least everone gets a couple of rounds of duels in although there would be nothing official about the losers duels.

Just a way to extend the fun a little and give everyone another excuse to visit the DA.

Seriously, if you see him in the arenas I'd just ask him to come post the results.  That said if he doesn't within a couple of days then by all means post the films so they can be dealt with at the review committee's liesure.

No.  It wouldn't ban him from any future event.  The loser posting is just a confimation that the result is undisputed which eases the burdon on the reviewers.

TC you get my PM about doing it at Noon Tuesday?
Title: Re: Dueling Bracket & Results

A few things to discuss:

When I decided to take this on I thought I'd have to update and post the bracket occasionally, possibly head off a dispute or two and other than that just fly and have fun.  I didn't forsee the number of PM's I've been recieving, from suggestions of all sorts to arranging my own duels to proceedural issues that have cropped up.  It was a busy day yesterday behind the scenes.  I'm not complaining at all, I just didn't forsee it so don't let this keep you from PMing me if you want/need to.

First of all JB11 has replaced gwurzel and is matched against Bodhi in the first round.  See posts earlier in this thread for specifics.  This will be reflected in the next bracket update.

Lazerr is now flying under the handle Lucifer (scarey... I didn't even want to type that.   ;) ).  This will also be reflected in the next update.

We had a pair yesterday that flew the wrong model plane in thier first fight.  They had the right airframe but the wrong varient.  I've asked them to re-fight the first fight.  If the result is the same as their initial first duel then they don't have to continue.  If the result changes then the loser chooses and the duels continue as per the rules.  This sets precident if anyone else finds out after their duels that they chose the wrong aircraft for the first fight.

We've got two players that will be gone next week.  Both have asked if they can try to get their next round duels in before they leave.  One hasn't fought this round yet so was a little premature in asking.  The other has already won in the first round.  I told both players that if their next opponent(s) complete their duels in time for them to arrange the next duel before leaving that I would allow them to petition their next opponent to get the round in early but didn't want them to put any pressure on the other dueling pair to try to get their duels in any faster than at their own pace.  I also told them that if the next opponents pushed their fights to the deadline then they may have to forfiet the next round if they couldn't get a duel in before the next deadline.

So why didn't I just match these two?  It opens the bracket to player manipulation.  It's also why I asked those who chose the wrong aircraft to re-fight.  I'll do what I can to accomodate special needs as long as the rules and the brackets maintain integrity and the rounds are not delayed.

I've also been asked to start another thread for players to post films in.  This came from a non-participant but I'm sure there would be great interest from many to watch films of these duels.  I'm not opposed to this as long as both players consent and it doesn't become a chest thumping excersise.  It could be great entertainment and a good learning tool for many.  I thought about opening a thread in the films and screenshots forum but it might be better to keep them here in this thread so, if you had a good fight and your opponent agrees to it then feel free to post the films.  Just make sure we know it's just for fun and not for a disputed fight.

I've also been asked in different ways by several people if there will be future tournaments.  Well, I'm thinking about it (actually leaning toward it) but lets see how this first one goes first.

 :salute to all.

I gotta post film of me and Horbles fights. Great stuff, we spent almost as much time nose to nose as anything else, no HOshots at all. Just fun flyin and I think we stayed within 1k at all times after merge. Good luck in next round man.

Let see some films.

Suggest this thread be STICKIFIED

Suggest that people hit refresh on their Web Browser, to reload the pic file of the bracket, for fresh updates after each week ( because this thread will get very long, and BaldEagle will be unable to keep what needs to be seen at the beginning of the thread....... EXCEPT FOR THE "HOSTED ELSEWHERE" Tournament Bracket Picture )

Recommend 4 seasonal events like this, with a final yearly Championship event........ using the top 16 or top 8 or top 4 from each event for the finale...... just a suggestion.......or something of the like

Recommend that people do as BaldEagle requested and keep Scheduling replys to email and PM's to help keep this thread thinned out.....only if it gets close to the deadline, say going into Friday Evening. then post here "MAYBE" to gather someone's attention........

what's the odds of doing this torney every month ?

0 considering a two week sign-up period and six weeks to run the tourney.  I had considered anything from annual to quarterly but that will depend on interest from the community.

I'm currently leaning toward 3 times/year.  That would allow eight weeks for sign-up and the tourney then eight weeks off to avoid saturation/burn-out but I'm open to hearing what others think.  Regardless I think quarterly would be the maximum, bi-annually the minimum.

11 of 32 brackets complete in the first two days puts us right on pace to finish this round up in the first week.  If you haven't made contact with your opponent yet to arrange your duels please do so.

On the administrative side of things yesterday was a lot slower than Monday but there are a couple of notes:

MajTalen is now flying as Schwable.  This will be reflected in the next bracket update.

moot, I've PM'd floatsup (4deck) asking him to confirm your win.  If he doesn't respond by Friday afternoon please post the film so we can get that out of the way.

A8Grind, keep trying.  You've still got several days left.  If you don't get it in then I'll move Bubi forward per your request.

There was a discussion of the ommision of discos from the rules yesterday.  The rule will be:

- If a player disco's the duel will be re-fought in the same planes as soon as the discoing player re-logs.  If he does not or is unable to re-log within 15 minutes he will lose the duel series by default.  A second and any subsequent discos by the same player in a duel series will result in a loss of the duel in which the player disco'd.

Also still waiting to see any films you guys are willing to post by mutual consent of the duelers.

That's all.

StokesAK is actually Strokes in game and DaveyJ is actually DaveyJ2 in-game.  As always those changes will be reflected in the next update.

Always a few more housekeeping issues:

A8 Grind has forfiet the first round due to scheduling issues so Bubi advances to the second round without a fight.

Nisky never intended to duel, only to join the review committee so B4Buster advances with a bye.

Bosco will be gone next week.  He won't have access to a computer while he is gone.  His next opponent is Darth2.  If these two can get a fight in next weekend Bosco will be back and that would work out best but they will need to arrange it before he leaves.  If they can't get one in next weekend they can do so this week before Bosco leaves but I'll need to assign a first duel plane so if that happens PM me for a plane assignment.

mike254 will also be gone next week.  His next opponent will be either JRjolly or strokes.  I understand they will be dueling this weekend after mike leaves.  mike254 will be able to duel next Sunday so I encourage JRjolly and strokes to coordinate contingency plans now (considering we don't know who will be facing him) with mike254 for a duel next Sunday given schedules work out.

Thanks for any help in allowing these players to defend thier places in the tourney.

23 of 32 in; 9 to go.

Bosco is also gone next week but might be able to fight next weekend so I PM'd him his opening 2nd round plane today too just in case they got it in this week.

This has been discussed in previous posts.

We're getting close to the end of the first round.

JRjolly PM'd me to confirm strokes win.  If the dispute committee feels the need to see the evidence they can PM me.  strokes and mike254 then got their next round duel in after I PM'd them an opening plane to accomodate mike's being gone next week.

Black70 PM'd me to forfiet his round with WMSol due to scheduling conflicts.  If you guys can still get it in today I'll await the outcome otherwise I'll advance WMSol.

15 hours to go before results need to be posted.  We're actually right on track but we're still waiting for:

Vudak went in and checked and in fact the DA is FUBAR.  Considering that, the fact that I don't want to delay the proceeedings, and the potential difficulties of the remaining duelers to arrange a meeting on short notice I'm going to extend the first round until midnight central time Tuesday for those who have yet to dual.

For the rest I will post the updated bracket and your next opening plane on Monday.

Once the remaining duelers from the first round complete their duels I will update the bracket again assigning planes to those remaining second round duels.  Those players will still be expected to complete the second round by midnight central time Sunday.

I realize this puts some additional pressure on the winners of those left to complete the first round and their second round opponents but these are extraordinary and unforseen circumstances beyond any of our control.  I'm doing my best to be fair and to keep the bracket moving.

Tongs and Belial, since this first came up with your fights I will leave it up to the two of you if you want to re-duel.  I will not update your first round until I have a reply from both of you.  If either of you want's a rematch then you will re-fight the first round.  If so you will have until midnight central Tuesday to do so.

If Jerkins agrees to it I'll allow a 48 hour extension but this will also affect the winner of the Bosco/Darth2 duel as it will shorten the time to get round 3 duels in.

Knowing that you were leaving I'd have preferred that you had contacted me to attempt to arrange this next duel before you left.

Wow.  What a first week.  Behind the scenes activity was pretty hectic and you guys really forced me to make some tough decisions along the way.  I didn't expect this to be this hard but did my best to keep things moving along.  Despite that I thought things moved along fairly smoothly.

First I want to make an important announcement.  Given the response to this tournament and the continuing comments I get both here on the BBs, by PM and in-game I've decided to make this a three times per year event (tri-annual) and rename it BaldEagl's ACES HIGH II TRI-ANNUAL ONE-ON-ONE BRACKET CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT (note the self-gratification  :D ).  I've also decided to stick with the same format and rules (subject to modification) and to open the two-week sign-up period for the next tourney in late September (probably around the 20th).  That will allow us to get the tourney in before the holiday seasons begin.  I'm also toying with the idea of an occasional invitational double elimination bracket but that won't happen for at least a year and if I do go ahead with that it will likely be a biennial (every two years) event.

Now back to the business at hand.  I briefly considered a losers bracket again after my own first round loss but decided, once again, not to move forward with that.  It would have been a little self centered of me.

There were a couple of rules additions and some more tweaking of the roster as people finally noticed their names were wrong and rather than deal with each of these individually I'm just going to re-post the rules and complete roster at the end of this post.

For those that missed it:

- gwurzel withdrew and JB11 took his place before the tourney actually started
- Nisky never intended to duel so B4Buster got the bye.
- mike254 will be gone next week and was allowed to get his round 2 duels in before leaving.

This was the biggest thing for the week and totally unforseen (re-post):

A8grind and Black70 were both going to forfiet but with this extension I'll keep these duels open until midnight Tuesday to give them another chance.  If they don't get them in I'll accept thier forfiets.

So these are the duels that are still open until midnight tomorrow.  I will update the bracket again on Wednesday.

snaphook
Bf 110G-2
INK

P-47D-11
DoNKeY

Black70
Ta 152H
WMSol

Bodhi
P-38L
JB11

A8Grind
Spitfire Mk XIV
Bubi

And so, here's the updated bracket as we stand today:

Here's the updated rules:

Rules:

- Brackets will be determined by random draw of names out of a hat (or other convenient container  ).
In addition all players shall observe a 10K cieling at all times prior to the merge.

Because this will delay both the winner's
and his/her next opponent's ability to arrange their next duel it is in the best interest of everyone that the players reach an agreeable conclusion to their duels on their own.  In any case, then next duels deadlines WILL NOT be delayed.
- The initial bracket will be posted on Monday, July 20 and each Monday thereafter until a winner has been determined.

Title: Re: Dueling Bracket & Results

As promised here's the updated bracket as it stands today.  I assume that by this statement:

If we cant hook up its on me....world is a @#$$ for me at the moment.

... snaphook was willing to conceed the round so I have advanced INK.  Also there has been no word or results posted from sveno or DoNKeY since the tournament began so, in accordance with the rules sveno advances by random draw.  EDIT: See message exchange below this.  Pending INK's confirmation snaphook will advance.  If this happens it will be reflected in Monday's update

If we experience significant difficulties due to the game update over the next few days I will consider delaying the entire second round by one week but let's try to keep this going and on schedule.  If you do have difficulties then post here.

Congrats to the first round winners.  You have until midnight central Sunday to complete the second round (except Lucifer who was granted a 48 hour extension due to being gone).  Good luck.

I'll add them to the random selection right now for round three but yes, all fighter and fighter/attack aircraft are included except the 163 and 262.

I PM'd INK to verify.  Once he does you can arrange your next duel with Biggamer.  The plane will remain the FM2.  I'm not going to re-post the bracket but will reflect the change with Monday's update.

I was in the DA one day with (I think it was) A8Moray.  We fought several rounds in Spits, Yak-9T's, etc.  It was my turn to pick so I picked 190A-5's.  It was an epic battle but I ran out of fuel.  I kept trying to get an angle gliding.  I did and got the kill.

The first thing he said after the duel was "I ran out of fuel".  I told him "So did I."  We both had a good laugh.

Schwable forfiet due to being unable to play the game therefore Dodger advances.  I got a PM from Dodger with Schwable's forfiet quoted.

Three duels have not yet taken place (it was almost 4 which would have held up half the bracket).  They are:

snaphook
FM2
Biggamer

WMSol
La-5FN
Bmathis

Jerkins
P-38L
Lucifer

I knew that Jerkins and Lucifer would be delayed.  I am granting a 48 hour extension on the other two due to the disruption caused by the new game version.  If these duels are not completed (or one player forfiets) with results posted by MIDNIGHT TUESDAY they will be determined by random draw.  The winners next duel will need to be completed by Midnight Sunday.

I'll post next round match-ups daily as these duels are completed and update the bracket on Wednesday.

Here's the bracket as of today:

Ill take action on that.

Suns & moot will be a fight worth watching.  Toss-up methinks, largely depending on plane set.  Moot and I have fought a lot and while he is surely ahead in wins by probably 2:1, I believe Suns to be more a far better stick than me.

My experiences with Joey have always been very positive - he went from n00b to spectacular very quickly and, as far as Im concerned, serves as the example for younger players.

Beating Batfink, though... I dunno.

Any given Sunday, as they say... some days you have it, some days you dont.  ;)

Just to make it interesting, I'll take Batfink to the top spot if youre interested.

(BE - we should think about an NCAA-style ranking system in subsequent versions of this.  Would be glad to lend a hand)

I agree that M00t Vs Sunsfan will be a coin flip at best. I've never faught M00t so it's really a shot in the dark call from me.

TJ's a great example of what can be done in this game if you set your mind to it.  He's also a very good sport and genuinely nice person.  If every squeaker was like him, we'd welcome summer with open arms.

That being said, I'm still rooting for Batfink.  Go 71st! :D

It's moot, not m00t.  I made the same mistake when the first brackets were announced.

Come to think of it, I have never seen them photographed together.  They might be the same person.  Hmmm.

All this talk about TonyJoey is making me feel better about his total dominance over me.  For the record he was even watching a movie while we were fighting.   I also heard him heckling his Dad because he forgot to cut the crust off his PBJ!

Sorry for the delay this morning gentlemen.

Due to the following two posts:

Got to see WMSol last night in the MA. He was testing some settings, and may be a go for today. I'll be on later this afternoon.  :salute

I dont know if its going to work out with lazerr and myself.  He is having computer problems.  Hopefully we will get it in by midnight.

... and the lack of response from thier opponents I am advancing BMathis and jerkins and amending the rules as follows:

- If a duel cannot be arranged between two players each player will have a chance to post the circumstances in this thread prior to the posting deadline.  If only one player posts and it is clear that they are making an attempt to arrange their duel then that player will advance. If both players post and it is clear that the issue lies with only one player then the player not at fault will advance.  If it is unclear which player is at fault, or if neither player posts, then a random draw will determine which player advances.

The current game update is clearly the problem in this instance but I think this change will be fair for future considerations as well.  At this point advancing a player by random draw who is having issues with the game might just create a cascading problem in later rounds.

Although I feel bad for WMSol and Lucifer the bracket must continue forward.  Hopefully they will have thier issues resolved for future contests.

I did take the time this morning to run this by the review committee (except jerkins for obvious reasons) and there was consensus on this.  This was the reason for this morning's delay.

So, here's the bracket as we stand:

Good luck to all on your attempt to make the quarter final round.  As always, you have until Midnight Central Sunday to post results.

No.  IIRC there were 2-3 in the first round and 3 in the second round out of 48 scheduled duels so far but I'd have to look back to be sure.

Actually, when I started this I expected it to be much worse than that.

Very good numbers, considering the timing of the new update as well.

I do hate to advance with a "bye", I wish lazerr could have worked out his computer issues.

so do a first round loser random draw to fight the bye's, or have the first round losers duel,  and the winners of those matches, duel the bye's. :x :x :x :x :x

hehe....

I'm not a great same plane dueler, never have been. BG flew well and certainly has a "punchers chance". Great event and well worth supporting IMO. I think that a lot of guys with minimal "name recognition" will do well over time. I think once you get down to the top 16 they all have a chance in a best of 3 with a random draw 1st plane.

As you've probably noticed above I'm granting batfinkv and B4Buster a 48 hour extension to get their duel in.  I hate to see anyone drop out at this late stage (plus B4Buster's already had a bye).  As always I'll post the next match-up as soon as this is in and the next duel will need to be completed by Sunday's deadline.

For the rest of you here's the updated bracket:

Congratulations on making the quarter-final round.  Only 7 duels remain (after bat and Buster get their's in) over the next three weeks to determine a champion.  Good luck and have fun.

Post the films as long as TC doesn't mind and I'm guessing by the PM he sent that he won't.

I've been considering adding a requirement for the next event that films have to be posted from the quarter-finals on for the enjoyment of those of us in the peanut gallery although I'm not sure if that would dissuade someone from signing up if they were to get whooped in the final rounds.

We are getting very close to the end.  Congratulations to sunsfan, moot and TonyJoey on making the semi-finals.

As you may have noticed in previous posts Jerkins and batfink didn't get their duel in and now Jerkins is away until Friday.  When I got wind of this I PM'd Jerkins, batfink and TonyJoey.  I'd hate to have this duel not happen at this late stage of the tournament.  Thanks to TonyJoey's graciousness, Jerkins and batfink will complete their quarter-final duel on Saturday and TonyJoey will take on the winner either immediately afterward or on Sunday.  So that I'm not the one holding up the semi-final I have already assigned the aircraft for that round.

Here's the updated bracket:

Semi Finals.

Moot Vs Sunsfan: Moot wins.

Joey Vs BatfinkV: Joey wins.

Final.

Moot Vs Joey: Joey wins.

I am in agrement with BadEagl, about at least beginning with the quarter finals, to have the films posted for others to witness osme good fights.....

I, myself, was not up to the last 2 matches ( rd 3 & the quarter final round with moot )....although I mustered up my best ability, moot was in the same situation with the quarter final rd as well he told me.......but in my view we both performed at best  prob 70 to 80 % of our BEST abilitys.... I, having dueled moot beginning at least somewhere around 2002? or 2003, know for a fact he was not flying to his best! IF so I would have never even got a gun solution on him in any fight....

I wish moot, the best of luck going forth and winning the entire thing, but as of lately sunsfan has been on a tear and sunsfan closest competition is TonyJoey ( my personal opinion and latest experience of sunsfan and tonyjoey in the koth tournaments )...... seeing as how I was in this duel, it was hard for me to post who would win this and in what order while I was a participant, it just didn't seem very polite or curtious to do so, until I finally got knocked out.....but I had it going in as

quarter finals: snaphook vs sunsfan / moot vs TC / mike254 vs TonyJoey / batfink vs Jerkins

semi finals: sunsfan vs moot / TonyJoey vs batfink

finals: sunsfan vs TonyJoey

Champion of BaldEagl's Inaugural 1vs1 Bracket Tournament: sunsfan

but I seriously hope moot pulls off the upset because he beat me out to advance forward, and one should always pull for the person that put them out of a tournament......just my view of these things......

I was expecting to see moot's films ( heck they was named different then how I sent them to him, rofl ) only to download them and view them, to see it was my films I emailed to moot to host for others to see. Alot of people had been asking to see some films, so I wanted to oblidge them and offer my films up to view...although I do not hardly ever post any films at all in the past 10yrs or so I have been a member of Aces high.......

hope my crappy flying was worth watching.....

congrats to all who participated in this tournament, and to the review commitee and especially to BaldEagl for thinking this wonderful event up and making it all happen........

I hope BaldEagl follows thru and continues to offer/host this event in the future...... and I hope we see more individuals join in on the fun.....

another wonderful by product of the game "Aces High"

Thank You for letting me be a part of it  :salute

Yeah, but if you so much as mention "DA" on 200, often all you'll hear are crickets, anyway :) I hope this event starts to change that.

My favorite duels have always been different aircraft (historic or not)...  Give me a F4U-1a v. Ki-84 or F6F any day of the week :aok

Im not saying TJ isnt gunna be nasty not knowing the bird but he still will have alot more time flying a "hangar queen" before his opponent and will know stall speeds, things of that nature.  :salute

Did you have rockets on board Jerkins or does the filmviewer just show it that way?

I noticed at the end of the film, when you bailed out that there were rockets on.

I believe that you used to much flap too soon... Burned down too much E early. Thus, Bat had the advantage up hill, which he capitalized on.

Congrats Batfink.

These "dueling" ladders reward the pilots who are consistent. To get to the semi-finals, you have to be consistently excellent. Joey and Batfink are both outstanding pilots. I know as I have dueled with both. I expected to see both rise to the top.  :salute

There's no advice I can offer players on this level, except this: My experience is that I always do better if I take 30 minutes and warm up prior to a duel. This gives me better feel for the limits than if I just start cold.

Good luck Bat in the finals.

I think that a warm up should be prior to meeting the opponent, also. Each person should be warmed up and ready to fight by the time they meet.

The reason i say this is that one or both pilots may feel the temptation to 'dumb down' their performance to such a level that the 'warm up' can become little more than a charade in psychology. It is fair to request some warm up time, but I think it is not right to warm up with each other (unless arranged and agreed, obviously.)
Thats just my opinion, though.

And thanks for the good luck wishes and compliment.

you cut throttle going into the merge ive never seen that but it worked well, good fights :salute

If 2 players have dueled many many times, they try to setup/sike each other out doing unordinary things......chopping/cutting throttle going into a merge lets one gain a quicker angles or lets them get inside the turn faster due to bleeding off speed quicker.....for people like moot, batfink, sunsfan and others.if they have that impecable gunnery and are on their game, then most times the match is over in a blink of the eye......

on the other hand.....I had a very good P51D flyer try this on me in one of our dueling ladder matches...I antcipated ihimdoing this.and climbed the vertical on him leaving him without the necessary speed or climbrate to stay with me....was all down hill from there.....( this was back in Saurkruats AH dueling Ladder )

I can not wait to see the final matchup films........please post the date you 2 are going to match up....

good luck to both ( again )  :aok

BaldEagl, what you think of possibly holding a 2v s 2 Dueling bracket sometime in the future?  I would love to get involved on one of them as well........ ( if Damned Dano, would return and be my wingman........last time that someone posted a 2 vs 2 dueling ladder, we only had one grp challenge me and DmdDano........) these types events get the blood a pumping and might get me back to flying on a more regular basis and get my game / playing skills back on par , hopefully to what I was roughly 4 or 5 yrs ago )(again that is highly doubtful.just wishful dreaming ROFL )

bring on the final match........

You guys have it all backwards. The further the table goes the more timid the fights get as the opponents try harder and harder not to make mistakes. I didnt film the fights.

AAR batfink vs tonyjoey:

P39D:
We had vis at 10.0k and both started a shallow dive to about 6-7k. We both merged with an aim to conserve energy in the usual climbing fashion. Three minutes of abslutely dead equal fighting, we probably merged nose to nose about 15 times and went up quite high. Eventualy i lost possition as Joey began to outfly me in the E fighting routine with great skill ont he flaps and stick. Knowing i was on a losing battle i dived out under him and offered my tail as i prefer that to putting myself into a rope i know i wont survive. TJ attacked with precision but failed to hit me, i reversed over the attack and fried but also failed to hit. Again i was a fish in a barrel and knowing joey i thought i was finished but again i reversed over his attack and avoided being shot, then held the trigger down for a good 3 seconds as he passed just for a very small moment my inverted gunsite. I saw flashes from his nose to tail and he burst into flames. I dived out as hard as i could and TJ asked if he had to bail or what. I typed back that if he can hit me before he dies i'd call it fair. He attacked again in a steep dive 1.5k behind me and rather than win running away from a burning plane i turn back into him at 1.0k. I pulled back past his gunsite as hard as i could and he hit me a good burst before shooting past me and exploding. My pulse was beating twice as fast as i thought was healthy.

SpitV:
Joey merged in with an E conserving loop while i chose a slightly diagonal spiral climb. We crossed a few times head on on the way up with me lower and slightly in persuit though joey had the speed to control me still. At the top we merged again, on the limit of our engine and wing power. I choose to turn flat and potentialy give a shot to joey if he went level and did another higher turn. He did exactly that but I had anticipated, I was ready for it. He came in and fired on me from above. I rolled over and placed myself neatly on his tail at 100 yrds and stuck there, for joey had gone all in for that chance, much as I had. This time he missed and i didnt, next time maybe not. It was all over in not much more than a minute. Joey congratulated me and acted like a true sportsman on defeat. There was nothing between us.

Thats my memory of the fight, hope that is not considered poor taste, though I dont see how it could be any different to posting the films. I tried to be as accurate as possible. Joey correct me, please, im getting older! Maybe joey filmed them.

Nobody has heard from BaldEagl, I ( we ) hope everything is ok with him!

The Reviewers/consultants chose Nisky to be the one to draw a plane out of the hat, since the rest of us ( Vudak, Jerkins and me ) have ties to the 2 Finalists ( and we have been waiting for over a week for the plane choice), and Nisky also did not compete in this event. With that said, here is the plane choice Nisky drew for the 1st round of the Finals:

109g6

NOTE - it is required that you both film each round, per the rule set of this tournament.

best of luck to the both of ya.........

I figured it would be best to post in here rather than the 30mm thread.

Gentlemen, you can't just go all the way to the finals and then not have a match.  This must be fought.  I don't want to get into this, that, or any kind of argument.  I just want to see this happen.

Because of the lack of time and budding animosity, I suggest you both agree on a time slot for two weeks from now and make that your next interaction ;) .  If one or both of you is/are rusty, you have a few weeks to fit in some time to practice.  If one or both of you is/are a little aggravated, you have a little time to cool off.  You can both approach the match sharp and without distraction.

Many people have signed up for this, and dueling has gotten some "good" attention on the boards (finally!) If the two finalists don't wind up fighting, that will change.

This is a good community event.  Let's keep it that way.

YGBSM.  The reason for not having the final duel yet is petty squabbling?  Vudak's post seems to be alluding to some kind of personality conflict preventing the last two standing from agreeing on a time.

Get over yourselves.  It's a tournament.  63 people lose.  It's not the end of the world.

I am looking forward to the next round.  This tournament was well run from the start.  Let's not ruin it because of immaturity or petulance.  Let's get the next one rolling.

:salute BaldEagl.  BTW, is BE OK?  He has been absent for a while.

The round has been postponed due to time constraints.  Given the nature of text, that can lead to squabbling.

I did not think very clearly before I posted, and I'll take the blame for that.  In retrospect, it was probably one of my dumbest moments on this board.  I apologize.

Nonetheless, figure out a way to have a match.

I always am, and always have been ready. I have tried to get moot to comunicate but he is not making it easy for me. He has avoided my advances and made excuses every time i see him online and failed to reply to PM's asking for a specific time. I have wasted a few hours of my life logging in and searching for moot in the last 3 weeks.

With all due respect, i think this is a one sided problem.

The truth is that this thing has ground to a halt because two people can't arrange 1 hour to finish it.

It is appropriate that this inaugural dueling tournament be brought to a proper conclusion. The truth is that you are one of the two people to do it..

If the accusations of immaturity and petulance are insulting, it was an attempt to shame you into action.  However, it is obvious that nothing I can say, as someone you perceive to be beneath you, will register. For what it's worth, losing a duel because you are rusty or distracted is better than just walking away.

Moot, I had a great deal of respect for you to this point.  You fly AH2 very well.  Your posts are usually thoughtful and respectful.  If it matters from one of the unwashed commoners, I am sorry that you felt insulted.

"as someone you perceive to be beneath you, will register"
What the heck??

Everybody wants this tourny to be something good.  Ok, I agree.  You also don't want to be holding your breath for ages.  Ok, I agree.  When I say that I have too much work to do the tourny justice, and say I forfeit, so that e.g. Sunsfan could fight in my place, there's nothing petulant or shameful about it, that's just what it is.  I don't feel insulted because I did no such thing.  If I'll do something it's because it's right, not from pressure of shame, and esp not for a game..  After a 5am-8pm day of non stop studying (I'm skipping first two weeks of class to get ahead so I have an extra 2 weeks at end of semester to prepare finals), being forced to play a game just doesn't happen.  I can't do it.  I can't make myself give up hours of sleep that I absolutely need to be fresh the next day, so I can play a game that I'm not even having any fun with.  That might sound rude but that's exactly what it is.  The kinda thing that the harder you force someone to do, the least he's gonna want to do it.

Back during summer I coulda pulled it off, but not now.  So.... In my POV I wasn't going to put up any good fight, so from there the next best thing was to forfeit and let Sunsfan do the finals - I mean this is a game right, nobody's gonna go on court martial for it - which would make for as good a fight -- and that's what everyone here's really after.  Quality fights.

Well I guess not.  I spent hours last night in the DA and I'll be in there some more today.  If Batfink doesn't show up by sunday night, I will forfeit though.

Pardon the drama.  I moan when others do it, and there I went.

The kinda thing that the harder you force someone to do, the least he's gonna want to do it.
No one can or should force anyone to do anything, game-wise.

and that's what everyone here's really after.  Quality fights.
If the standard is quality fights, then I may as well avoid the next round.  But seriously, everyone wants fun fights.  The fact that 64 of us have emotionally invested (drama again- sorry) in this tournament is why the interest in the final outcome is high.

I spent hours last night in the DA and I'll be in there some more today.  If Batfink doesn't show up by sunday night, I will forfeit though.
I appreciate your efforts.  Good luck to both of you in the final.

Avoiding the next round would just mean you turn down the chance to get better and raise the quality of fights in the game by that bit.  My little brother's a concept artist.  One of the things he was told by one of the biggest names in the USA right now, at a concept art convention, was that he didn't ever mind being approached by beginners for whatever they wanted to ask, but there was nothing he could stand less than when they did it while saying something like "here's what I've made, I know it's crap but [...]"

That self-defeating attitude does no good.  Not for the person saying it nor anyone else around.  It's the exact opposite of what competition should be.  If half of the players in the game just made the small effort to just try something like this ladder, the quality of dogfights would go way up.  It would make for better quality of gameplay than any "good old days" the old guys talk about.  That's all it takes, just giving it a try.  Not gang banging or picking on a con with 2 on him already, etc.

That's not air combat.  It's not good gameplay either.  Pardon the soap box schpiel, but I really do think it's a huge potential for fun and quality stuff in the game, that's being passed up for no real reason.  The game is what you make it.  There's no small contributions when hundreds or thousands of people are making them.

Not really.  I can check into the forums anytime and it'll never take more than 5min. BaldEagl already did all the detective work.
The strict eating schedule is funny.
As your attorney i dont advise it
You're fired.  If you'd asked anyone gaining weight they'd've told you you can't go hungry.  You have to eat pretty much every 2 to 4 hours.  Since I'm getting old, I can't do both jogging and weight training in one go.  So jogging has to go in the morning. That only works early at 5am.  It all adds up real quick.

Nope and no one spoke up about checking up on him, so it looks like no one has his email or home number, or that he's fine..  You could ask KATO1 or Pjay, his squaddies, but he might be alright - he's logged a couple of hours in late war this tour.  Last forum check-in was aug 23d.

I have to appologize.

First of all I owe a sincere appology to Skuzzy, HT and TilDeath.  I let frustration get the best of me and mouthed off big time.  I fully understand Skuzzy pnging me for a month.  Skuzzy, I was going to send you an e-mail to appologize personally but thought it might ring hollow so decided to just take my medicine.

Second I have to appologize to all of you following this tournament for getting png'd nearing the end of it and not being able to bring it to a timely conclusion.

I apprecieate all those who were worried for me.  It's true that not one single person in this community has my personal contact info including my squaddies.  I expect one day I'll just fade into the sunset.

On a positive note I simultaneously took a break from the game.  I've only flown a handful of sorties this month and only spent a few hours playing.  In a way absence from the game and the boards has been refreshing.

While I was away worrying about the resolution to this tourney I seriously hoped the review committee would pick up the ball.  I really expected my board status to change to png making it obvious what happened.  Evidently that wasn't the case.  Thank you to Jerkins, Nisky and TC for picking up the ball in my absence.   :salute

Finally congrats to moot.  I only wish I'd been around to post the final bracket and been the first to offer an official  :salute
