Title: vox issues on update (again)
Post by: climber on May 25, 2010, 01:54:14 PM
Vox is again out after the latest update.  Glad we got an update!

I'll peek in here occasionally to check up on patches.  Until then i'm not wasting my time.

Transmit light on my microphone constantly flashes as if transmitting, however, vox appears to be working.

Odd, I have no sound issues at all.  I did hear one player's vox sound choppy.  Other than that all is running smooth.  :salute

When you tab out of game a very annoying roaring sound is heard when you come back in. I was in a tank tabbed out and came back. Happens every time.

Windows Vista using the default sounds AH came with.

Vox is also very light and mapped buttons no longer control vox in Mode 2 on the joystick
using a saitek x52

Yea...bad for me too..it is good for about 5- 10 min..then everytime someone talks I hear static, and cant hear my plane very well..If no one is talking game sounds are fine..People could hear me..

When I would leave game and come back in..it would cycle through the above...I was around a furball also with lots of chatting..

Vox is messed up. Can talk on a numbered vox ch. , but the sound isn't very good. Range ch. no longer works at all.

I can hear no problem, but I went from having the clearest mic in my squad to sounding like a stuttering chipmunk on speed. Others sound better to me though.

I use a USB headset from Logitech.

Some sound good with it, others ...

Tonight, one squad member would key up, VOX light lit, no sound, and his transmission would kill VOX for all others on numbered VOX channel.  type dot resetv, problem goes away for everyone until that one squad member keyed up again and everyone's VOX died. Was repeatable.

On one occasion with dot resetv, while driving a tank, sound reset to that of an F4U in a 450 per dive, extreme airframe rattling and wind noise.  Did I mention I was in a tank ...

It sounds like speaking through a tin can.  Couple squaddies have no issues though.  Will post diagdx if needed.

Vox is bad, when it is working it sounds like everybody ate a Kazoo or is talking through Styrofoam cup  I had to relog four times to keep it working late night.

Vox started out decent for some time, both sending and receiving. My brother's (Flayed1, who lives 500ft away) vox actually sounded quite clear for a while. Then it gradually deteriorated into a variable "tin can" effect with clicks throughout his transmission. He reported the same characteristic about my vox and others.

My receive VOX quality has gone down by about 50%. I can understand most people but the all sound very "speak n spell" like.

Also, In comparison to my custom sounds the VOX level is very quiet (I had to put the sound effects to about 25% in the VOX settings to hear voice comms). I think I will redo all of the custom sounds and set the individual sound levels much lower.

A question for HTC, would it be better for everyone to remove custom sounds and only use defaults at this time?

the all sound very "speak n spell" like.

thats what it reminds me of! :)

at best it sounds like a very low-bitrate codec, very limited audio bandwidth and tinny compression artifacts. at worst pops, clicks or just nothing at all from some on vox.

I can hear no problem, but I went from having the clearest mic in my squad to sounding like a stuttering chipmunk on speed. Others sound better to me though.

I use a USB headset from Logitech.

I did hear a squeeker that sounded like Alvin and the chipmunks last night. Now I am not so sure it was a squeeker. Running intel core 2 system with 4 gigs, Nvidea gt275 and that creative fatal thing with the 64 megs ram on board.

Receiving Vox is fine. Transmitting using vox very bad and makes me sound like Im stuttering.
Example

if I say on two seperate transmissions "one" and "Two"
It will come across as

"wo, one"

"tw, two"
I have a film recording of the above if it helps

Sounds are fine internally and most externally. But high speed passes sound outright bizzare. Like a high pitched buzzing bee.

Check your Voice preferences.

I noticed if I click WAVE IN the same thing, or at least similar, happens.

I would add that I had to turn off the mic. clicks because THEY WERE TOO LOUD!

Game sounds sounded different, but not bad.  Vox was working pretty okay for a while, it seemed actually maybe a bit clearer.  Then range quit working, the names would light up but no voice would come through.  Some people would just be a constant vox beepbeepbeepbeep as though they were repeatedly keying the mic.  Fortunately the 'play mic beep' option is easy to find.

I'm using Windows XP 32 bit on an A7N8X-vm using on board audio Realtek ALC650.

Thanks HTC for the audio revert and fixing the tank wind sound bug (had that bug happen to me once last night).

I should add that the rest of the upgraded sound system was an improvement and enjoyable.  The sounds from other planes flying past you, other guns shooting from other planes/vehicles near you, and the engine sounds when the engine is "idle" are greatly improved.  But when I can't makout one of my squadies voices from the 20 other squadies online it is not enjoyable (because many sound extremely similar now being so compressed down and nurfed in the audio quality of the voice transmitions).  Based off of what I've seen and experienced of the new sound system I wish it were possible and an overall improvement to the game to keep the old VOX and plug in the new sound system for just the game sounds.
