Title: Lame
Post by: Clone155 on November 24, 2014, 04:19:33 PM
I don't post much anymore, and I've been playing this game a long time now. I usually don't mind much, but tonight I took one look at the map and logged off. Currently the Rooks are hiding 5 CVs. I don't really care about this kind of tactic, but 5? Damn.

They're like Pokemon cards now, they have to capture them all...

Yes I just did that...  :bolt:

I can see stashing the CVs if you are going to cluster them into a Mitchner size CV group with 4 flattops and then raise havoc....but just hiding them to protect them?

I never understood this tactic. Not being a rook and not having seen the current map I can't comment specifically to that, but in general to having seen this before myself it seems... wrong. CV's should be offensive tools primarily and defensive if your under attack, i.e. the horde is rolling base after base down your coast. A cv popping up next to your base can add an edge. Loosing a CV isn't terrible, but having one and never using it is IMO.

I put up a post a little while ago on how something like this could be dealt with.

I think a "fix" (if you see this as an issue) would make for some interesting game tactics.   :airplane:

You lost me on this one.  How do you hide a CV?

I don't understand what the problem is here?

Isn't the point of the CV to hide and be unnoticed until it reaches a base? Then once it gets there you perform a mission or squad raid to attempt a capture?

If you are in a squad, those CVs hiding next to bases should be easy(ier) than normal with about 5-6 guys.

You can always take control of the CV and point it to where you want.

If you are an enemy, I don't want you to find my CVs ethier. So I guess I just don't understand what you are implying here?

Players capture enemy cv's and steam them back deep into friendly territory,  taking them out of play....... hiding them.

As a count toward the full base count they don't use them, so they can't lose them and so "save" those bases toward the count for the win.

Perhaps we need a new category called "Whine". This feels like a whine. The bish are known for their dirty tricks. So when someone does it back to them, they don't want to endure the same crap they inflict on other teams. Bish just want to win and don't care about "fair". Try whining at your own team mates for bringing this on. The knights have to endure this crap all the time from the bish. You don't see the knights whining about it on the boards. One question I ask a lot is "do the bish ever stop whining?"

Ahh I see thanks.

What's so hard about taking control of it and moving it?

Is it really effecting the game play that much?

Seems like CVs shouldn't count as bases? Maybe the ports though.

This seems like a stupid tactic to me. Considering you could capture more bases with a CV. And if the CV goes down, you still get it back if you have control of the port.

Effecting the enemies ability to make war has always been a valid tactic. It's no different than porking ords, taking out HQ, ect.

Oh and it's only wrong if the other side does it.  :noid

Not what I said and not what I meant:

Bish do it as well.  On a large map hiding a CV means, more often than not, that the CV is out of the game.  I think that the game would be more interesting if it was harder to hide a CV,  Again my thoughts are here:

I am sure others will have other ideas.

Again..
Why is it so hard to take control of it yourself and move it?

If anyone gets mad, tell them to piss off. Simple.
It's a game of fighting. For some reason, people like to think by having as little of a fight as they can in AH that seems to be the new "fun" tactic. I just can't fathom it anymore.  :headscratch:

Winning the war is pointless in the MA if you are not logged on. Hiding CVs is stupid as hell.  :old:

Maybe the CVs that are portless should have a 12 hour rule. After 12 hours you either recapture that port or CV respawns at it. Maybe still in your control also allowing a better chance at capture.

I can think of a couple reasons off the top of my head.

#1 it's 10+ sectors back which makes it many hours away from being in play.

#2 you don't have the rank, and one of the brilliant strategic generals of your country wont let you.

personally, I don't care, I despise cv's and their magic 3000 ft puffy ack.

I wonder if removing CV's from the base capture count (instead only counting the base/port) would help this some.

Perhaps a wishlist item?

Certainly not. They aren't really hidden for base count, but to deny them to the enemy at all cost.
That's not generally a bad thought, the problem is just that TAGMA is just of such an unfortunate design that this can be taken to the extreme by parking the CV somewhere in a giant area behind the main continents.

I find them every time.......without resorting to spying or side switching.

It's not hard since all 3 countries do the same thing over and over with very little variation.

You can capture a CV without capturing the port?

No you must capture the port first. I thought that was common knowledge.

That I understand.

So a bunch of knits come in and capture a bish port.  Does the CV that is already in play remain a bish CV even though the knits captured the port and remain bish until sunk?  I assume then  that blocks a new knit CV from spawning since a bish CV is still in play from their captured base?
