I think it is unfair, this could have been the one chance that many AH players had to see female genitalia(other than that of a sister).

Animal, I'll tell you what is wrong, since it doesn't seem to be visible there right at the end of your nose; why do you have to know just exactly where the limits are unless you intend to dwell there? And, if you intend to always push the limits, what use are you?
I get enough of this at work to know where this is going to wind up...

Kieran, I suggest you back off - and do it quickly. The FDBs don't take kindly to folks harassing our token minority. ;) He may be immature, look like OJ, smell funny, and have an unhealthy facination with Fatty's genitalia, but he fills the quota and likes Kool-Aid more than booze.

Yeah Kieran, I agree. It's not my call either, but I'm wondering now exactly what the criteria is for getting booted off this bbs. I understand the nudie pic was over the top, but the guy who posted that pic is still here while two guys who had no idea they were out of bounds are gone. Sheeesh, you have to admit the decision to ban someone is arbitrary at best, hey?

Its much simpler than "arbitrary". If HTC slaps you down on the BBS with a warning of any kind, shut up and take it. Those that argue the point aren't arguing for long.
Lesson: If Yankee says "don't do this", the improper (just might get you banned) reply is "nobody's making you look at it".
I seriously doubt either would have been given a timeout if either had simply said "sorry" or nothing at all.
Nah... that's just not the way people want it around here. Its time some figured certain things just aren't up for debate.

Those rules pertain to your "playing account" and not really the, hum I guess "ethical rules" of the BBS. These rules were never explicitly stated anywhere clearly in relevance to the issues of this case. The closest we have to any ruling on this matter is what HT said about "cleaning it up". Even in this light, the sentence passed on to the defendant was rather light. How could you argue against being banned then being able to go and create another account and continue to post. Nobody is fooled by the new accounts. Why not just say, "G, I appologise" and leave it to the degree of the situation to resolve itself rather than blowing on it like a child wanting his cheap lolipop to have your way.

My points about this whole thing are that Yankee and HiTech overreacted in this situation. Yankee asked to please refrain from posting any more pics that could be pertained to porn.(reasonable request which I take as a rule they want enforced.)
Hortlund did no such thing. All he did was to post what could have been interpreted as mild sarcasm AND that might not have been directed at Yankee. He did not post anything porn related, thereby not breaking a rule suggested by Yankee.
HiTech then takes Hortlund's post(s) as a 'slap in the face.' (To which it doesn't appear to be-IMHO.) Then states that if Hortlund does that again, he's banned. Hortlund did not post after that and gets banned anyway!
Ever play with a rich kid when you were young? He brings the ball to the game. He makes up a rule on the spot that favors him then decides that he's going home and taking his ball with him because no one will agree to 'his' rules. Rather childish won't you agree?
That's exactly how I see this situation. Hitech and Yankee are overreacting in this case. Instead of taking the ball home with them they are removing the player that dares even remarks on the rules. Maybe they might take the high road and apologise for their overreaction. Maybe they'll show what mature adults do when they are wrong. Hortlund, like you and I are clients. I think he got the short end of the stick on this one. If they had a problem with him they could have emailed him privately and asked him to refrain from posting in his way in such matters.
Again I see no rules posted against sarcasm for which Hortlund is at worst interpretation is guilty of. Hortlund didn't swear, he didn't threaten anyone, he didn't post anything that can be construed as porn. He mearly posed a remark that anyone could have answered "Yes Hortlund, that is you being not too bright as we don't want kids viewing what might be interpreted as porn. As a public forum that is viewed by kids we have to police ourselves in what we post." Had I been Yankee or HiTech, that is how I would have responded. It would show the kids how to respond (in a mature way) to someone that might have been questioning them. I think Hitech and Yankee were just stressed out as it was and overreacted.
A lot of things they could have done but they chose the wrong thing to do IMHO.

One rule that has been shown time and time again is that HTC's decisions regarding their enforcement of community behavior are not open to debate. If someone wants to try to turn it into a debate with them, they better really watch their tone or they stand a good chance of eating the boot for awhile.
Is that heavy handed? Sure. Was there an overreaction in this case? Maybe. So what? Deal with it. What any of us think about it doesn't matter. No one can win this debate because there is no debating with HTC.
And I can understand that. This is a small company with very limited man-hours to spend in a day. I can understand them being heavy handed so that they can actually spend their time developing their game instead of having to police their community constantly.
So, the new catchy phrase for the day is: "Don't debate. Create!"

Deja, I agree the pic was over the top. I agree Yankee was right in telling them to knock it off. I agree HT, Yankee and every other staff person is much too busy with their normal work to babysit a bunch of grown-ups on the bbs- nor should they have to. I agree Hortlund and Sandman should have simply shut up. I disagree they deserved banishment given the arguementative nature of the O'Club. To them it looked like one more point to argue instead of a friggin land mine. If they're guilty of anything at all it's stupidity, and if we got banned every time we said something stupid there wouldn't be anybody left to post.

Argumentative nature of the O'Club has nothing to do with it. The powers that be were making a point. Some were more than happy to oblidge.
One thing that almost all bannings both here and in the arena have in comon is the fact that they came shortly after an HTC "don't do this" announcement of some kind.
