Post by: FTJR on September 28, 2004, 09:37:32 PM
At the risk of boring you all. I can not find any reference to the size of the invasion stripes underwing. I using a photo from my only book on the subject.

Best image I could find when someone else was doing D-Day stripes on a Mossie.  Looks like you are close

Actually I wouldn't worry too much. Although they were supposed to be fixed size, many were hurriedly painted on and ended up all sizes. Even seen some pics where they werent even straight!

I've got the Corgi model of that particular Mossie, I'll check on that to see if it's about right.

Here's a few images I found, I dunno if they help?

Shoot. I thought that the invasion stripes were underwing only.

My one photo is a side shot.. Thanks Rep.

Actually just looking at my book it actually says underwing only.

Hmmm readin further it seems that it differs in side the squadron.

Confusion reigns, think i'll leave it as is.

Thanks again.

All it means is that if it has full invasion stripes it is June 6 -Mid July 44 and if the upper wing stripes are gone it is Mid July -September when the wing stripes came off completely.

It's entirely possible for both to be right depending on the time frame of the photo or reference material.

I know what you mean.  When I got the model I couldn't understand why they only did the underside D-Day stripes on the fuselage yet included upper D-Day stripes on the wings?
