Post by: AAIK on May 25, 2020, 10:02:31 AM
I was looking forward to something new and revitalizing for the game type but I am not impressed:

"Way to go!"

"You got one!"

 :rofl

Man, that cockpit and terrain look just like that Maya rendered "Concept Art" Archie was shilling.

It gives me goose bumps.

This really was worth the wait.

What DCS like?

From what I've heard it's like typing for a minute or so just to watch a picture of your airplane burn on the runway. But don't take my second-hand word for it.  :D

No throttle control?

No throttle control?

That's an In-App-Purchase. Save up your "War Bucks".

Just kidding.  I saw throttle and rudder don't get enabled until after tutorial is complete.
I assume that is just a bug.

...but smells like Fish.

TBH, I like DCS - the free version includes a couple flyable airplanes. It's definately high-fidelity and complex as fruck, (meaning, you need the checklist to start your aircraft and know where the buttons are) or you can simplify the cockpit with an E press to start.

It's not MMO, and finding multiplayer games is well, an experience. It does have dynamic campaign engine based on game input  by myself and Mark Sheppard a long time ago when we were working with the design team with Flanker 2, and Lock-On, and then DCS 1, and I just got busy with Aces High and life.  Still a good product. :aok

 :O

Been a good while since I played WBs, and maybe it's the rose tinted glasses of memory, but that footage doesn't look any better than the last time I played about 10 years ago.

Considering the amount of fanfare they're putting out over this new version, it's astonishingly underwhelming.

Wiley.

I have been playing DCS for about a month now. I mainly fly the Huey when I do play. I joined a pretty good squad that has former and current military pilots from the USN and RAF. On most of the aircraft you can do a auto start. The two planes that come with DCS [P-51, Su-25] are non clickable cockpits but are a lot of fun to fly.

It is a huge game with a steep learning curve. The F-18 module itself was bigger than the entire aces high game.

What the normal descent rate for touchdown? 1200fpm seems a bit high?

Wow...I hope it's because it is still in beta but those graphics are pretty bad, being low resolution.  The cockpit art is also bad, as well as the plane skin.  I would think that this video was meant for public consumption, they would have used hi-res graphics.

funny that WB3 would be still around 20 years later and posted as  a new game :)

The engine toggle stuff pre-dates skyyr.  You weren't playing the game when hblair did it regularly, along with most of the Luftwhiners of the time.

What's the engine toggle thing? Turning it off and on while in combat?
Many of them do that. Only helps a small few.

Yup, closing the throttle was good enough for the rest of us.

And holy crap, I just watched the vid.  Is it 1999 all over again or have I just been too spoiled by MSFS on ultra?

Done over 30,000 pack jobs in real life. Should be no problem.

Just out of curiosity, where?

(I know someone who worked at a jump field a long time ago)

Hey Mongoose. We've lived in the UK, Spain and Portugal working in skydiving over the last 8 years. As a parachute packer it was not uncommon to do 1000 pack jobs a month during the busy season, sometimes more. These are however ram-air rigs with square canopies rather than the rounds used by some military and aviation groups although I'm sure it wouldn't take long to learn a new system. I still work in skydiving but thankfully not as a packer. That's a young man's game!
