I think ground effect is modeled. I'm just guessing though from the same experience as you, I get close to the ground and it feels like I suddenly gain more lift.

Pretty sure I've heard reliable people say it is, the number I recall seeing thrown around was 1 wing length from the ground it kicks in. Not something I'd particularly want to count on for stall recovery though. ;)

Just saw the video. A very good tutorial. Though I tend to use a negative(or inverted) snap roll maneuver when I fly in the offline arenas. I'd basically use left or right rudder, then throw the stick opposite of the rudders while pushing negative g's. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't.

I'm pretty sure ground effect is modeled. When I am coming in for landing, I can kick full flaps, and I get more lift when I am just above the ground than when I am higher up.
