Title: 582nd NFG/26SF Recruiting Bishops
Post by: 321BAR on March 16, 2010, 03:31:49 PM
Just started a squad. 582nd NFG/26SF is recruiting anyone willing to fly bishop, fight to have fun, and are willing to work as a team. Anybody interested please either post here or see me in Late War MAs. We fly fighter bomber attack and GV sorties and will coordinate to help win the war as much as possible.

P.S. I can't find much info on the 582nd if anyone can help me find the squadron history it would be very helpful thank you...

P.P.S. We won't fly only zero's. :aok

I'm assuming you're referring to the 582nd Kokutai and since I can't resist the chance to try and dig up info I took a look.  Unfortunately my initial efforts didn't net much information.  I'm actually curious how much English language books have been written on the JAAF and JNAF.  I did find a little blurb of info in one of Sakaida's books that he did for Osprey Publishing.

Quote
2nd - 582nd
Established 5/42 at Yokosuka Air Base, Japan.  Active over eastern New Guinea and Guadalcanal.  Reorganized as 582nd AG, it had claimed around 220 victories when the fighter unit was disbanded 7/43.

Sakaida also talkes about one pilot of note, Warrant Officer Kanichi Kashimura who gained some fame over China for returning from a mission missing half of the left wing of his Type 96 "Claude" fighter following a mid air collision with Curtiss Hawks.  He would go on to score 8 victories before being sent to New Guinea and the 582nd in December 1942. He was lost in combat three months later on March 6th 1943, the conditions around it are somewhat murky.

His unit was escorting D3A dive bombers on a raid to the Russel Islands when they were attacked by P-39's from the 67th FS.  The 67th did not claim and victories against the escorts having concentrated on the dive bombers, however two A6M's failed to return from the mission.  There is one claim on this date from a Marine SBD gunner for VMSB-132 who claimed to have shot down a A6M 15 miles off the coast of the Russels, Kashimura may have been his victim, or it's possible he was one of many operational losses suffered by both sides in that theater.

Kashimura is generally recognized to have achieved 12 aerial victories.

any requirements
the only requirements are to participate actively in the squad and try to be on as much as you can. I'll make sure that it will be fun to fly with us and that we do missions to the squadmates preference from time to time. One key thing: I've been in squads in the past which have members who do not listen. I won't boot you from the squad if you want to fly on your own but when we need help i'd like that help answered and that doesnt just include my call for help but it includes any calls from any squadmate etc. Age requirements dont matter because anyone can get annoying :lol . We'll fly fighters bombers attackers and GVs.

Soulyss thanks for the squad info  :aok much appreciated.

I'm also looking into the XO idea though but we dont have enough squadmates to make an XO needed yet

The 582nd Kokutai is again recruiting pilots. The squad has become more refined to fighter/attack roles than before but will still bomb and GV.
We do not fly FSO. We are looking into it but do not forsee the squad flying FSO for a long time.

                      ---Prerequisites---
We are looking for people who have flown/played for over a month
  Have a positive attitude
  Love flying as a team
Are willing to help the war effort when necessary

Anyone interested in flying with good people and have a great time please see me or dogtown. We are usually in the LWMAs.

I'll personally help train squaddies that request it. I'm better with the basics than the expert controls when teaching but i will also help with finer points :aok

<S> Hope to be flying with you soon

i'm sorry to say this but we are not a fully dedicated squad. We fight LWMA mainly and fly whatever necessary. But AvA seems fun. I'll talk to my squaddies about AvA and see what they want to do. some of us may be interested in it :aok personally i'd love to get my squad in there for a day to see if they like it... some of us like flying jap although many fly american or german.
I put the vote up on the private forum... i'll have the answer to AvA in a few days. Ty for the idea whiteman cuz i'd love to fight the VF-17 head on
