Title: Yak 3 please!
Post by: the4ork on June 01, 2010, 04:29:11 AM
i realize there are already 4 Russian fighters available...

but it would not be that hard i think to remodel the yak 9u into a yak3...

its basically the same power plant, with some slight cowling mods, and it was lighter and carried better guns, and more maneuverable than the yak9u

also, it has the same guns, with a variant yak-3 that had 3 × 20 mm Berezin B-20 cannons with 120 rounds for the middle cannon and 130 rpg for the side weapons. The three-cannon armament with full ammunition load was actually 11 kg (24 lb) lighter than that of a standard Yak-3

 :aok

doesnt seem like it would take much work to make either from what you said. and i'm 'kinda' partial to yaks... lighter, more lethal gun.. would fill the space between the massive firepower and noseheavy 9t and the lighter 9u

The Yak 3 and Yak 9 are different airframes so you just can't "remodel the yak 9u into a yak3".  The Russians didn't just take a Yak9 and change the cowling.

If anything, they do have the same guns.  1 20mm and 2 12.7mm mgs.  The 3 20mm was post WW2.

While I would welcome it to the game, I don't see it as a priority for development at this time.

I'd rather see another early war Soviet fighter, like the MiG-3.

Yak 3 was my favorite ride in Fighter Ace.  Love to see it in AH2.  :aok

The new fighter, designated the Yak-3 entered service in 1944, later than the Yak-9 in spite of the lower designation number.

Production accelerated rapidly, so that by mid-1946, 4,848 had been built.

Specifications:
Engine: One 1,300-hp Klimov VK-105PF-2 V-12 piston engine
Weight: Empty 4,641 lbs., Max Takeoff 5,864 lbs.
        Wing Span: 30ft. 2.25in.
        Length: 27ft. 10.25in.
        Height: 7ft. 11.25in.
        Performance:
            Maximum Speed: 407 mph
            Ceiling: 35,105 ft.
            Range: 559 miles
        Armament:
            One engine-mounted 20-mm ShVAK cannon
Two 12.7-mm (0.5-inch) UBS machine guns

Didn't the MiG 3 have a reputation of being quirky handling and underpowered?  I bet they would be fun to hunt in FSO's, though!

Another Yak?   No Thanks.

Mig-3 would be a better addition for what is being asked and provides another airframe.

Yak-1 and Yak-7 are definitely needed.  Yak-3, less so.
