Title: Best place to order VR prescription lenses?
Post by: Nefarious on February 09, 2021, 10:27:56 AM
I just saw an ad for Orbanross on Facebook, seems pretty cheap.

Anybody got a reliable or reputable source?

I used VROpticians for mine. Fit perfect and easy to swap out. I have a pretty extreme scrip and at the time I ordered mine they were the only place that could do it. Not cheap because of that. Turnaround then wasn't too bad but that was way before the Rona hit.

Only thing that sucks is when you take off the headset to tweak something on the desktop best to  have your glasses in a handy spot as, at least in my case, I can't see shanything outside of a few inches.

I used that group as well.

They did not get my stigmatisum in my right eye correct.

I also would have had to put the fresnel default lenses back into my vive pro as the script lenses snapped over them.

I had earlier did the Samsung gear vr clear lenses upgrade and was not happy to have to go back to the rings.

I still use my Mr. Magoo glasses but at least the vive pro is deep enough to handle them.

I used WIDMOVR for the lenses, both Rift and RiftS...just snap in. Not a single problem in 3  yrs.   You just need to know your Prescription for "Distance" . Think I paid $65 for last set? 7/25/2020

Looking over the differences, I went with WIDMO.

- Both ship from Europe
- Widmo uses adapter spectacle style instead of attachable lenses.
- Widmo was about $10 cheaper shipped with less delay according to the website.

Thanks for the help folks! <S>

So with Widmovr... do they clip over the existing lenses?  Just trying to understand how they work.

That's a thing that's happening, need to go to the optometrist.

You can get a better idea at each website and it may differ from each headset. I have the Rift CV1.

But Widmovr looks like a miniature pair of glasses that clips inside the vr headset, VR Opticians look like lenses that attach over the lenses in the headset like a contact lens would.

Like Nefarious said, the web page makes it easier to understand, but YES Rift S is Snap on Over the Headset Lenses. You just remove the plastic ring around existing lenses and snap the Scrip. lenses right over. Takes 30 seconds

Received my widmo glasses today. Super fast shipping from Poland even with appears to be customs clearance issues per the tracking number.

The glasses rest between the face mask and headset, and while they don't snap or lock into place they seem secure with very little movement.

Glasses worked as advertised and look just as good as using contact lenses. The only con so far  is when I look down my nose I no longer have 20/20 as I do with contacts. However, I think the pro is that I don't have to fiddle with contacts before and after using it. I wasn't that proficient with the keyboard with contacts either.

Highly recommend.

:aok yes, RiftS is the snap on, the Rift1 is as you obviously have. I found it helped with eye strain a bit. LAST thing you want is Glasses lenses contacting the VR lenses....OUCH  :furious

I had gotten an aftermarket pad for my Quest 2, and while I like the way it fits, my glasses contact my lenses, so that wasn't good.  I ultimately wound up going back to the stock padding, my glasses don't touch and I've figured out how to adjust it so the stock padding doesn't hurt anymore.  The plan is to get some prescription lenses and use the closer pad I think, so I will have my eyes in closer to the lenses and get more FOV.  With my current setup it's less than it could be, but the comfort and lack of lens contact makes up  for it.

When I got my RiftS I got the lenses and also a 3rd party pad set. The face pad for the RiftS kinda sucks. It's just a cheap foam that looks like it'd fall apart and get icky fast. Before I got the lenses I noticed it didn't have a lot of strength to it and I'd squish the face pad to the point my glasses hit the lenses. That was a no! The new pad set made by AMVR had a new face interface (the plastic part that clips onto the headset), and a new face pad made of a dimpled pleather material that's velcro'd to that. So the pad is now easily replaceable. Another pair of pads made of the same stuff for the halo band, front and back. Whole thing is much more comfortable and super easy to keep clean. Looks and feels like it's gonna hold up a whole lot longer than the stock pads ever would have.
