Title: New Sounds Released!
Post by: Fruda on June 17, 2013, 07:15:28 PM
The time has finally arrived for my new sounds to be released. The initial five packs are here!

BMW 801 Pack (http://www11.zippyshare.com/v/46053042/file.html)
Daimler-Benz DB600 Series Pack (http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/16340843/file.html)
Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Pack (http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/32431497/file.html)
Rolls Royce Griffon Pack (http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/42371709/file.html)
Rolls Royce Merlin Pack (http://www28.zippyshare.com/v/89909685/file.html)

Just extract the contents of each archive to your Sounds directory, and Windows will merge the files for you. Just overwrite any old ones, and you're set. All real sounds, pure power.

Coming soon: Allison V1710 (regular and turbo-supercharged P38; the former works as a double for Mikulin AM-35) and Pratt & Whitney R-1830 (works as a double for Shvetsov M-82 and Wright R-1820 as well).

Thanks. I have all the source material necessary for the next two packs, so they'll be out soon.

Edit: Spaced on something in my rush to get everything out and uploaded last night. The closest engine to the Ha-45 is the R-2800, but for some reason I used BMW 801 sounds. For those of you who've already downloaded, just copy and paste R-2800 sounds into your Ki84 and N1K2 folders. I'll fix the archives and upload the second I get home from work tonight.

I have a question when you make the R-1820 pack will you include the turbos in the B17 and then leave them out of the brew for example?
Also how about some GV sounds?
Title: Re: New Sounds Released!
Post by: Fruda on June 18, 2013, 11:53:56 PM
I'm sure there's a way I can add the turbo-supercharger sound for the -97 variant. At any rate, I'll figure it out.

As for GV sounds? No. Unless I can find some good (and credible) source material, anyway.

Totally forgot about the P-40F. Since it wasn't included in the Merlin pack, just copy/paste the Merlin sounds to your P40F folder, and you're set. That being said, the Allison V-1710 (plus turbosupercharged P-38 variant) pack has been completed! Links to the updated Merlin and new Allison packs are below.

Updated Rolls Royce Merlin (includes P40F) Pack (http://www25.zippyshare.com/v/5430672/file.html)
Allison V-1710 Pack (http://www70.zippyshare.com/v/31979110/file.html)

Included inside are the Il2m3, Yak-9T, and Yak-9U. The V-1710 is a very good analogue to the Mikulin AM-35; so good, in fact, that even the Russians these days are using the V-1710 in restorations of Yaks and MiGs.

My initial upload was done too soon --- I forgot to format it properly. Engi2 was meant to be Eng, and I didn't include an Engoff. I fixed it, so just download again and replace the files.

Such things happen when you're in a rush before work and you haven't eaten yet.

Really? The fudge? I'll check on it when I get home. I usually don't make errors like that; then again, I usually don't rush so hectically with these things.

It's a possibility. As long as I can find accurate source material that's freeware, at any rate.

The completely fixed Allison V-1710 Pack is below.

Allison V-1710 Pack (http://www44.zippyshare.com/v/85705011/file.html)

Contains the proper Engoff and Engoffx sounds, which I somehow forgot earlier. I encourage everyone to download the new pack and just merge the folders. Makes a big difference.

I tried 4 times to download the Pratt and Whitney sounds. Damned if I can figure it out. Twice the download site wanted me to download a toolbar, iLivid media player and change browsers and homepage. yadda yadda yadda  I'd sure like to at least hear the sounds, but don't want to have to download tons of who knows what to do it. Is there anyway you could possibly send the files to a more user friendly site?

I clicked on that button 3 times and couldn't get it to download correctly. I'll go back and try a couple more times and see if I can figure it out. I've downloaded all these sounds from the BBS at one time or another, but have never had this much trouble.

Okay I'm stupid. I wasn't extracting them after they were downloaded. I got them now  :o  I'm glad I kept at it. They do sound great......thanks Fruda  :salute

Fruda i noticed a slight issue. Why are the JU88s in the BMW pack? they are inline engines with a round radiator.
Title: Re: New Sounds Released!
Post by: Fruda on June 20, 2013, 04:04:01 PM
Crap. Looked at the wrong reference article. The G-1 had the BMW 801; the A-4 had the Jumo 211. A simple fix is to just copy and paste the He-111 folder into the Ju-88 one.

I'll fix this issue when I get home from work tonight.

All packs have been revised, and the P&W R-1830 / Wright R-1820 Pack is complete. I strongly recommend that everyone download the new versions.

Allison V-1710 Pack (http://www49.zippyshare.com/v/85202380/file.html)
BMW 801 Pack (http://www49.zippyshare.com/v/19125176/file.html)
Daimler-Benz DB600 Series Pack (http://www49.zippyshare.com/v/14156002/file.html)
P&W R-1830 & Wright R-1820 Pack (http://www49.zippyshare.com/v/89010388/file.html)
Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Pack (http://www49.zippyshare.com/v/57184398/file.html)
Rolls Royce Merlin Pack (http://www49.zippyshare.com/v/87084978/file.html)
Rolls Royce Griffon Pack (http://www41.zippyshare.com/v/17853539/file.html)

Just about every aircraft in the game is represented with these packs. Obviously, the next packs will be for the German jet/rocket aircraft, the Wright R-3350, and the Argus As 10 (Fi 156's engine).

Fruda, your B26 sound should be named B26B or it won't get used in the game  :aok
Also i don't think the R-1830 sounds anything near the Sakae engine, from what i have heard from the last surviving one on youtube its a much higher sounding pitch.

B26B... I thought I did name it that, but oh well. Looks like another update is in order.

I saw that particular video; the sound quality is very lacking in bass. Either way, there's not exactly anything that can be done, since there are no source recordings from that particular engine.

That's what they sound like. Since I couldn't find a turbosupercharger sound anywhere, I decided to check out an old video I took back in 2007 at Hooks Airport near Houston, wherein a B-17 was starting individual engines.

Sounds the same as what's in the pack I uploaded, though of course there are minor differences in exhaust pops and such. No engine sounds the same way twice, mind.

I just said it doesn't sound like that. That B-17 starting up didn't sound anything like a P-38 at all. It sounded almost exactly like the startup in my 1830/1820 pack; the idle sounds just like the idle I have for the FSX version of the same pack.

I'm not entirely sure if my head was on straight with that last post, but the B-26 is in the R-2800 folder... Which I forgot to upload. Wow. Such things happen when you're trying to rush like mad and you're multitasking. At any rate, no, the updated B26B folder is not in the 1830/1820 pack.

Pratt & Whitney R-2800 Pack (http://www13.zippyshare.com/v/31727586/file.html)

And I may upload to Mediafire... May. But the download has been working for everyone else; you have to click the big orange download icon. Once you click it, the download starts automatically (unless you have some kind of ad blocker or some such enabled).

Post by: Fruda on June 28, 2013, 04:59:24 PM
The R-1830 is a suitable sound for the R-2600. They're both 14-cylinder engines with similar schematics. Until I find some reasonable source material for the 2600, it'll have to do. That being said, I found better source material for the R-1820, and have completed a separate Wright R-1820 pack. Some minor updates and such of previous packs is already underway. What does this mean?

Wind sound effects! I'm debating whether or not to mix in the wind sounds with the engine sounds at a low db level, as AH's sound engine doesn't really display wind effects properly. I'll see how they mix before I make a decision. Also on the table?

Junkers Jumo 004 sounds are nearing completion. Source material is still needed for the Argus As 10 (used in the Fi 156) and the Wright R-3350, so I've yet to begun work on those engines.

Title: Re: New Sounds Released!

I can't find any source material yet for the R-2600 that isn't payware, and I'm not going to take that road. So, the R-1830 as a substitute will have to do until further notice. I've found plenty of freeware source material for the R-3350, but it's mostly terrible... Think of it as wading through a really, really bad flea market.

I'm not sure how it's possible that your computer won't let you do that. All that has to be done is click a link, let one download finish, close the window, and then click another link to download that particular pack; the process is repeated until each pack you wish to have is downloaded.

I want to give people the option to have a set of sounds for their favorite aircraft groups, rather than force them to download one massive pack that they may not entirely use, or even want to use.

A PDF reader has no way of preventing you from downloading a specific type of file. A PDF reader is exactly that: it loads PDF files so you can view them on your computer. It's far more likely that you have an antivirus program that's preventing the download applet from popping up.

The sounds come as a .rar file. This is a type of zipped file that compresses the separate sound files. You need a program like winrar to open it. The reason yours tries to use the pdf opening program is you have it associated wrong. In win7 go to start/default programs. In that window click on associate files. When that opens and populates scroll down to to find the rar heading and click on it to change the association.

OR..... when you download and install winrar it should ask you about which files to associate with it and be sure to check rar.

Did you read the specifications on your board? Some AM3+ boards can only go up to 1333. The problem with my board is one of voltage: the north bridge has an issue that causes the system to freeze when more than one CPU core is used. I know it's the board, too, because the CPU and RAM test fine otherwise. I hope Gigabyte is done with "repairs" (I put it that way because in the RMA process, companies tend to just send you a new product) soon.

Did you go into BIOS and check the voltages at all? To my knowledge the core scheduler is always in the CPU. Not the Northbridge if that info was sent over the FSB that would be kinda slow. Anywho i would have checked voltages and such first on the northbridge and CPU, could be old BIOS too.

EDIT: And my board says its rated for 1866mhz memory, oh well its a free board i got from a junk computer which a PSU blew up in so that may be why it craps out anything over 1333mhz

Voltages are "fine"; the oddity being that the VCore can't be changed (supposed to be able to change it on the 990FXA-UD7), and the BIOS simply cannot be updated (system crashes on boot and instantly reverts to F10 BIOS version). All signs point to it being a north bridge/memory controller voltage issue but we'll see if Gigabyte gives me a detailed report whenever the hell they're done.

Here's the thing: were it the CPU, I would've been able to get another CPU and the problem would have vanished. However, that's not the case, as I've tried  four different FX-8350s, and the same problem occurs. My memory tests absolutely fine in all stress testing programs, too. The easiest way to recreate the problem is doing a CPU test with Prime95: with one core selected, the test runs flawlessly; with two cores, it runs for a few seconds and then freezes; with more cores than that, it freezes the second the additional cores initialise.

I'm hoping that in due time, this problem will be nothing but a memory.

Perhaps it may be the way the north bridge was sending instructions to the CPU, perhaps a certain amount of bits affected where for core allocation. In any case hope you get your MB back soon. I also have a gigabyte board for my i5 2500k LGA 1155 socket Z77 chipset (northbridge and southbridge on 1 chip) and it overclocks really swell from 3.7 ghz turbo speed to 4.8 ghz, gigabyte boards seem good to me i have many. The one i did have the RMA had a issue where it would start overvolting the CPU little by little (getting up to about 1.48) before the system just overheated. Gigabyte was kind enough to not only send me a new board but they told me the issue was a broken MOSFET that was leaking when heating up and losing its N state as it heated up as it was a P channel MOSFET.

Gigabyte are pretty good with their support. I'll be a happy panda when I get a properly working motherboard.

The BMW 801 and Pratt & Whitney R-2800 packs have been updated.

Fixes: The Eng files for each pack had loop artifacts that made it apparent when the sounds were looping. This has been fixed, and now the sounds are much smoother.

Rolls Royce Merlin Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/86603705/file.html)
Wright R-1820 Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/16356489/file.html)
Effects Pack (http://www69.zippyshare.com/v/11776645/file.html)

I have to say that it's amazing how much more definition my speakers have than the headphones I've been using for mixing. A lot of these artifacts aren't apparent when using said headphones, but as soon as I use my speakers, there they are. As of this update, all loop artifacts appear to be fixed. As far as my Effects pack is concerned, I realise that the flap and gear sounds don't play properly on some aircraft. To remedy this, I am currently looking for source material for aircraft-specific flap and gear sounds.

Edit: While attempting to delete obsolete packs, Zippyshare's strange interface caused me to delete everything. Eeeaaaagh. All packs have been uploaded again.

I don't know what it is, but maybe working so much on these sounds has diminished my ability to hear loop artifacts when I'm working. When I take a break and come back, I hear more. Anyway, with that being said, another update.

I understand that there have been quite a few updates, but that's just my commitment to quality.

The Rolls Royce Griffon Pack has been updated.

Rolls Royce Griffon Pack (http://www65.zippyshare.com/v/88384792/file.html)

I felt it was easily the weakest pack of the set; I took it upon myself to dig through more source material and found some better clips to work with. I have kept some of the sounds from the original pack, but they've been reworked and cleaned up so they're much smoother, while sounding more powerful.

Post by: Fruda on July 31, 2013, 04:13:23 PM
I'm working on an overhaul of all packs, excluding the Effects pack. Reason? The prop mixes used for the Eng sounds were too muddy; I have corrected this, and they sound markedly better. The problem occurred because I forgot to equalise the internal and external prop sounds after mixing down from 44.1khz.

But wait, there's more! Dedicated Junkers Jumo 211/213 sounds! I found some excellent source material, so I'll be uploading the Jumo pack with the rest of the others.

Yeah, you're right. Unreliable source material. Viewing a video of a restored Fw-190D-9 shows this with certainty, as (what do you know...) it sounds almost identical to a Bf-109. So, it appears that my original usage of the DB600 series sounds for the Jumo 211/213, considering they're almost identical engines (barring supercharger configuration), was the correct decision.

I'm beginning work to fix this oddity.

Daimler-Benz and Griffon packs updated. As it stands, the DB600 pack as of this upload will be the ultimate final version, as there is nothing in the way (as far as I can see at the moment) of better source material for it. The same currently stands for the Griffon pack, though it has to be said that if better source material is found, these will not be final versions. The way I see it, everything is ultimately a work in progress until absolute perfection is achieved.

Since this board doesn't allow me to update posts beyond a 24 hour period, I've had to make new posts for updated links repeatedly. Just so it's less confusing, I'll add all appropriate links below.

As I have yet to find authentic, free source material for the Jumo 211/213 (that being said, I can't even find payware source material), the DB600 series works as a more than adequate placeholder.
