Title: Well...B25
Post by: Spikes on August 28, 2007, 01:29:10 PM
I know it is not the right model...but...we could do it...make a big scenario...have the Attack on PH...then the counter on Japan...

I know about the PH map...but...

Gee.....

A 1-sided attack, almost 200 IJN planes milk-running against ack-defended targets, with only about 6 planes historically getting up to defend.

Then a 1-sided sneak attack, with 12 (or was it 16?) lone bombers with NO defensive guns dropping incendiary bombs that did no real war-related damage to an unsuspecting civilian population, and running out of gas as they try to get to China.

Yeah... There's a winning scenario setup....

A Pearl Harbor scenario has run in the past and was very popular.  It revolved around the US making use of some of the planes that were actually available (i.e., more of a "what if" scenario than a recreation).

Here is how it was planned to go:

The document gives reasons for a lot of the decisions in the rules.

I'm familiar with the Pearl scenario, and it does not suit me. More fiction than fact, and that's the only way to DO a Pearl scenario.

Sneak attacks don't make good scenarios, in my book.

YMMV.

Well, I don't know about the "more fiction than fact" portion.  What would have happened if the US paid attention to the Opana Point report?

Scenarios try to give each side a resource base:  planes, radar, etc.  How the side uses them is up to it.  So, if you have a Pearl scenario and give the US Opana Point, I don't see it being fiction to allow them to use it.

B25 has no place in any scenario until it's ubber modeling is scaled down to planet earth.

I think the guided missle system works just fine.

Wouldn't the Doolittle Raid make a nice racing event? One of the "gates" would just require dropping bombs on target :)

Too bad theres no supply convoys like in that other HT product, the Battle of the Bismark Sea with P-38s and B-25s was a blast back in the day.

I've played in a few Pearl Harbor scenarios.  They're a lot of fun when you switch sides after 2 or 3 frames and repeat the scenario.
