Lt. jg. Robert E Murray was VF-29's topgun with 10.33 kills aboard the USS Cabot. VF-29 claimed 113 victories, 34 came on October 16, 1944 while over Formosa, Muarry claimed 4 kills that day to become an ace. His Hellcat was an early -5 model and had the rear window and carried 12 kill markings which included his assists of a Betty and Zero. Rare for Hellcats it also carries 15 bombing mission markings, the crew refereed to the plane as 'Lucky 7'.

Nice work.
I once landed a 152 on the Cabot when it was being scrapped down in Brownsville, Texas. Closest I came to being a Naval Aviator. Ah, the things we do when we are young and dumb.
