Title: Contributing aircraft 3d models for the WW-I sim?
Post by: LesterBoffo on March 12, 2010, 07:18:00 PM

I've been lurking here for a couple of weeks.

I'm one of the 3D developers for Targetware's Richthofen's Skies and before they shut down the server and killed off 0.64 I was poised to add some of my aircraft to the sim.  It's looking like it may be a while before I'm going to be able to contribute in any way to TW.

Since I've got a few models nearly finished I'd like someone to look at them and see if they could be used for AH.  How does one go through the contribution process for aircraft?

 Thanks

 Lewis

You can try sending them to HTC for them to check out but HTC has had a long time stance about not accepting player created 3D models of aircraft.  If they don't accept them, I'm sure the community would gladly accept any plane skins you create with open arms.

 OK Piccies comin'

You have to understand I started out doing a pre WW-I to 1915 era Pioneers of Flight to Early war combat aircraft. so most of my kites aren't fighters although I'm working on a few two-seaters

Hope you guys like early kites, I mainly do early French pushers, they make great targets I'm told... :headscratch:

Personally, I think you did a really good job despite being saddled with an out of date graphics engine.  If you can't contribute any models, I would personally like to see you make some skins for our WW1 kites.

Well skins are something I don't usually do really well.   Blowhard would have done better justice to my kites.  I'd prefer to do 3D.  But, I should be telling this to your sim's owners/producers.  I also got into doing the flight modelling, and although I know there's some bad blood between AH and TW, I don't want to inflame that at all, some of the TW guys are, well..

I'm pretty convinced that TW potentially had a great but underutilized flight modeling engine. I have created an number of pretty engrossing offline missions, although they were pretty lonesome.

Honestly, there is no (or was) "bad blood" between AH and TW, just some bad blood between some TW players that came in here and bashed AH and the AH community.

Just don't mention Stiglr in any of your posts in these boards and you'll be golden.   :D

Have you thought about recreating those missions for AH for offline use?

Ah, sounds kinda like a proprietary 3D file format.  Not that you can't import from .ac files?, Thanks for the quick response.

Thanks for the support guys.  :aok  I'm not sure if my 'puter will run the offline game engine,  is it a free download?

Now I gotta figure out if my laptop will run AHII so I can start playing online.

Too many flight sims on my desktop as it is... :airplane:

Is the off-line play limited as well?

No. I've played offline for years.

Can the offline game be dumbed down graphics wise to allow play on older machines?  Ifluff'n I'm going to start making offline play, I'd like it to run on my older 'puter.

Check pages 2 and 3 of this thread for the machine I got AH running on as a test:  http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/index.php/topic,270181.0.html

That's cool,  Hell, AH should run on my ancient Athlon 800 mhz with overclocked and redrivered VooDoo 4500 vid card.   I mean I run TW 0.64 on it in offline development at anywhere from 21 to 13 fps on, and my laptop should do even better as it runs Fighter Squadron WWI without any frame stutter at all.

Next question,, Why the hell did I waste 3 years as a developer with TW  :uhoh.... FAWRK!   :cry

Haha forgot about that thread, still surprised you got that Dell to run the game.

Lester best bet is to DL and try. Offline is free, and with your knowledge of mission making, I think you'll find you a home here quickly, check out the offline missions forum, they have some missions there and I believe AH wiki page too.
