Hardest Day 12 Hour Scenario.
Zoney rearmed a dozen times over a full 12 hour scenario. Towered out at the end of the scenario with the exact plane he launched with.
Outstanding! I don't recall ever seeing anything like this before.

wow that is some patience. :salute

Truly fantastic work by Zoney.

Holy $##/^. One plane?!

Somebody tell him what "limited plane set" really means. :salute

The last 1 1/2 hours i flew not any of the 30k 109s would come down and fight. I finally landed and went to Melee for some fights.
30k nothing like BOB but a good what if both sides had unlimited fuel reserves and planes to carry it.
Early on there was some good fighting and bombers involved.
-
Odd, I usually found myself looking up at Hurricanes at Spitfires.
-
Very nice, Zoney!

I should add that I'm with you on the hi-alt thing though, but I dunno what you can really do about it. If you set an alt cap with a downdraft at say 23k then EVERY engagement will be at 23k because nobody wants to be bounced. If you don't set an alt cap then everyone will climb as high as possible because nobody wants to be bounced. If you set an alt cap with no downdraft and use the honour system then some guys will break it anyways because nobody wants to be bounced, and some guys who don't break it will still be accused of breaking it in the forums because some guys got bounced.
I like lower altitude fights.

You and I had some awesome low alt fights towards the end. You and I traded scalps sir, excellent fighting Horble. :salute

There were some truly awesome melee's down in the mud towards the end :D :salute

I love the down low fights. Then again, when the Spits and Hurricanes were way up there, they couldn't possibly see our low NOE mission to the City. These things self correct. Go hi, you are going to miss a mission. Those are the options and obstacles that must be overcome. If you were were the group that we baited to go high so we could attack the City with our planned NOE raid, then you followed our plan to the letter.
This isn't the MA, if we are somewhere, there is a reason.
I want to know who I was tangling with in the tree tops with my Stuka, that was a white knuckle fight, my plane was screaming and straining the rivets the whole time.

WTG zoney!!
Now the "30k complainers"?
You can climb an I16 and about 90% of the planeset above 30k.
An I16 coming in at 31k is a tough customer and likely to drag many 109s down low.
Of course, the 109s have to be game and not wussing out by not engaging.
-
I liked the high alt fights too, I had a blast dodging those pesky high alt fighters l, while trying to kill bombers :rock

The earlier alts were more historic. The fights then were great. Later history went out the window.
The planes could stay aloft a lot longer in the hardest day than in the BOB. That made for unreal altitudes.
As it is it is the first scenario that I participated in where I became bored. I think it was because it was setup more as a what if than as a actual rendition of The Battle of Britain. By that I mean what if they had all the fuel they needed. What if the planes could have stayed over the target much longer. What if.....
Obviously these take a lot of work. You can't please everyone. I could lie and say I thought it was great but that would help no one. Perhaps with some adjustment or no adjustment, who knows.
If this were my first scenario, it would probably be my last.

Zoney is a true Eisenmann. Congrats!

That was pretty slick. Have never seen that before. Not even in a regular scenario.

If you want it to be realistic you have to tell both sides to fly the way it happened. 109Es can't leave visual sight of the bombers and spitfires can't take off until the bomber direction is determined definitively via radar, and they have to stick to their confined zone of defense, not free-roam and harrass bombers at will.
Hell, I'm not concerned about the alt -- this time of the war it was very much an alt and speed arms race, who can get higher? Who can get faster? 1mph and 1000 feet made a difference.
What I didn't like was having RAF planes hitting bombers as they went feet wet over French airspace. IMO that was against the spirit of the event. I guess I'm a bit of a purist for the BOB.
That said, the RAF didn't need to go up to win. They just needed to stay above the bombers, which they did most of the time. I got over a dozen assists in my Heinkel guns, and some of you buggers took me down!
:furious
But overall I reached out my window while over England and stuck my hand out, came home with some tea and had a lovely cuppa Earl Grey for the next flight window's re-up.

The first sortie, I got a kill and was on the deck just half a sector from a friendly base so I rearmed. This is what started me being "off-cycle", I kept rearming and merging with the buff groups each time they were inbound, and then would escort them home and re-arm again. I wasn't damaged so I just kept re-arming instead of sitting and waiting for the one hour mark. By the time I hit the 6 hour mark it became a challenge to keep doing. I didn't get many kills, but I stuck right with the buff group time and again. I must have driven dozens of enemy aircraft down and under the buffs I was escorting. At one time while waiting for the buffs to get near the target, I drug a large group of enemy fighters off the other direction. I turned many many fighters away by being between them and the buff group.
I immersed myself in the "Luftwaffe Pilot" role. I had a job to do, escort the buffs, period. I didn't care how many kills I got. As soon as the enemy aircraft wasn't a threat, I broke off and returned to the buffs. Just like my orders were. I got my aircraft back home. I stayed alive so I could keep helping the buffs do their mission
On the 11th re-arm, I collided with a Hurri. It took my aileron. I did the last hop without it and still managed to break fighters off my friends in the buffs. And then I touched down for the last time with 5 minutes to go in the scenario, turned my engine off, withdrew the flaps, and then just sat there for a minute before towering out.

Yep, saw Zoney near us many times in bombers, and was under him on the deck the time he acted as bait for enemy fighters.
<S>, Zoney! :aok

This is the perfect example of the difference between MA and Scenario life. While getting air to air kills is fun, and may even be critical to scoring, not getting killed denies the other side a win. Pushing off threats from the planes being escorted is crucial. Once they are out of firing range, they are quite literally irrelevant. The discipline to keep this focus is respectable. 3 kills for 12 hours work was mentioned. Keeping flight after flight of Bombers alive got our bombers on target and their job accomplished, damage to the manufacturing and supply network of the Allies was achieved, his role fulfilled. That's what taking out ground targets is, that's where the objectives are measured, was the capacity to make war diminished by the assault and was the cost in lives and planes worth the result.
It's easy to get caught up in the "game" but to get this immersed in the "war" is just remarkable.

Congrats, but i'm amazed how can people find this boring 12 hours marathon immersion without action entertaining ; 1 kill every 4 hours :bhead

Nice work

I didnt find it boring, but I was only on for one hour of it. I upped and shotdown 2.5 aircraft in half an hour before I got jumped by six 109's, dragged them to the deck and fought for awhile until I forgot about the negative g-force cutting engine and lost too much speed to put up a fight.
-
Not my brand of fun, but to each his own. If I want to go on a Sunday flight I can fire up MSFS.
-
I too tried to be a historical hurricane squadron leader. My guys were split into sections of four, with three pilots in a V formation, each with their respective flight leads. The most I had at one time was four full sections and one spar. We did our best to blow past the fighters, and hit the bombers. I setup my squadron in several good runs, before the dedicated guys like Zoney came in and pushed us down. Our comms amongst 601 & 610, who worked together the entire day, were excellent, and I imagine that is what the guys in the real thing did. I'm looking forward to the next one, and can only hope it's as much fun as Saturday was.

Well done Zoney. I know your secret...
