The manifold pressure is incorrect for Wep, Cruise, extended range, all power setting.
-
Confirmed. That and the mirror does not show the view behind, only part of the bulkhead.
-
I also noticed the reflective oval area on the inside of the engine booms reflect part of the cockpit side panels, not the area of the nose gear as it should.
For those that don't know what I'm taking about, IRL that oval shaped area was left unpainted and polished so that the pilot could look over and see that the nose gear had operated.
Either way the best you can get reflection-wise on the mirror(s) only happens with the environmental slider max'd out. That in and of itself is a major performance killer. Combine that with the mirrors not working remotely like mirrors makes them kinda useless. More of an obstruction than anything else. Should be an option until it can be fixed IMHO.

Even if you max the environmental update rate I expect the mirror would be unlikely to show other aircraft.
-
So what would be the point of even having it then?

Just like everything else that blocks your views, it's historical realism. :D
-
So you're saying that a mirror was added to the 38 where the mirror would be to bring no function as a mirror but only to block the view? Because that was it's historic function?

Of course not. That would be silly.
I'm saying a mirror was added because the cockpits had mirrors, and it's non- functional because we don't have functional mirrors in Aces High. Blocking your view is just a natural result not the intent.
As to why the mirror was finally added or if it will eventually be functional, I have no idea.
-
Hey you know I'm a huge 38 guy so I'm perfectly OK with the cockpit getting some love. It's much improved to be sure. Maybe I'm just a little bit spoiled by my random dabbling with IL2 where the 38 is just gorgeous in every respect, the cockpit looks great, especially in VR.... and the mirrors work too.
But the question really is why add that now? To this bird? There are more than a few birds that could use a little love I'd have thought before my bird did. Great big shrug.
I was a beta tester for the current version of AH (cripes! How long ago was that now?). The reflections have never worked properly since then. When I saw the mirror I had hoped it'd been fixed. Maybe it's something that's in the works? Who knows?

The mirror does work, you need to have "reflections" "on". If you zoom in on it you can more the view around with the arrow and page keys. It dark, but it does have a reflection there.

That's correct the mirror is a flat surface with environmental mapping. Let me know if you see an aircraft there.

Well, the Ar 234 got a periscope added but has no useful functionality because you can't fire the gun in the gunner position and can only rudder turn.

Fixed for the next patch.

It's not historical realism, the real thing did block the forward up view but in exchange offered a view of your six. The AH version just blocks your view, that's not historically accurate, now is it?

Not if you use TrackIR.

and don't forget the two directional gyros and no wet compass. I've been checking the internet for any P38 cockpit pictures that show that configuration of instrumentation but so far unable to find one.

This is from the P-38 Pilot Training Manual:

are you sure, doesn't show the rearview mirror.

Pretty sure the canopy was open to take that pic so....

That canopy rail is just a drawing.

Received one skin download will there be more? :airplane:

As the skinners make new ones YES there will be. They cant use the old skins on the new models so all of them have to be remade from scratch.

Can you adjust the mirror? Is it auto dimming?

No and no.

When is the next patch?

I have a question
1 Would it be possible to substitute airspeed indicator for small directional gyro
2 Could the vertical speed indicator be moved to bottom manifold pressure gauge and both pressure gauges be put on one?
3 Could we move both RPM gauges to one gauge ?
As it is the gauges are hard to see. I really use the vertical speed indicator in a turn or dive :old:

You'll have to call Lockheed and ask for those changes. I'm pretty sure that they no longer support the aircraft, however...

No that's how the Aircraft from Lockheed were.... The cockpit model resembles a real P38 cockpit but its not exact as mentioned.

You can find a P38L cockpit on line at "1945 Lockheed P38L N3800L virtual tour"
the clock is at 12 o'clock on the panel
Attitude indictor directly below
Airspeed to AI left
Altimeter to airspeed left
1 Directional gyro below AI
VSI at low 6 on panel
The plane is done up in Bong's color's .It does have advanced navigation aid looks like two vor receivers.
Its a more pilot friendly panel :airplane:
You can see landing gear in left engine cowl
-
Don't talk about the pilot extending 4 ft on each side of the cockpit :bolt:
