Title: Rods New Build
Post by: TilDeath on December 03, 2010, 02:14:40 PM
I have not been posting pics of systems, no excuse other then well, no excuse.  Here is another AH II players system.

Specs;
Case:          Tempest EVO
MB:             Gigabyte
CPU:            i5 760
HSF:            Zalman
Mem:           Corsair XMS @ 1333
GPU:            XFX 5830
PSU:            XFX 650watt
HD:              Western Digital 640gb  6gbs 64cache
OS:              Windows 7 Pro 64bit

The system has stock settings with Overclocks to 4GHz with a max voltage of 1.36 to the core.  Tested with OCCT for min of 8 hours each.  The mem on the OC's goes from stock or 1333 to 1800 with no over voltage.  Tested with Memtest86+.

(http://www.tdcomputersystems.com/overclocking/ex/4GHz.jpg)(http://www.tdcomputersystems.com/builds/rod/main.jpg)(http://www.tdcomputersystems.com/builds/rod/dvdhd.jpg)(http://www.tdcomputersystems.com/builds/rod/memhsfvid.jpg)

I know he will enjoy it.  Look next week for another system.  One that will rival 7 to 10k builds from other builders.  The new system will boot to desktop in under 16 seconds.

Oh BABY!  Can't wait until I get to pick this thing up and take her home!

It looks like TD has built a fantastic system!

I'll be sure to give a report after I get a chance to get shot out of the air a few times.  At least the flames will be more brilliant and the bullets will be at max resolution.

Thanks for posting the pics and info, TD.

TD i got what i assume to you will be a stupid question, but to me its a common sense conflict with the way the manufacturers are building the towers these days.

OK first lets start with what i believe the common sense side of this would show, heat is the worst enemy of any performance machine including computers, and as everyone knows heat rises.

now to the confusion, the manufacturers of these high performance towers seem to be trending towards placing PSU's at the bottom of the tower. my PSU, although not super hot, generates some heat and gets progressively warmer over time when higher amounts of current is being used to run the system, IE to play games.

the question, if it is not already apparent is simple, why fight physics and place the PSU on the bottom of the case when it could be placed at the top and aid in reducing internal tower heat?

great build by the way!!!!

Air flow.  If the PSU is at the top you can not add 2 larger fans be it 140mm to 240mm.  Also cable management assists with airflow and bottom mounts allow for better air movement and the PSU fan vents the out the bottom of the case.

Thing is this system is not even the Mage 2.  It runs 59/60FPs with everything turned up.  Only thing not on was "Shadow On Others"

great job TD, you know I look at your computer and then at mine, I am beginning to suspect that you use some kind of wireless system to hook up all the components together in your builds  :D.

You will NOT regret it.   TD is on my "if I'm ever near the neighborhood, I'm stopping by list".    He's good people and his assistance/customer service speaks for itself.

Seriously 2nd'd - asked TD for a quote, and the price/build was good. Only thing that stopped me was lack of cash my end. Once thats resolved and I need a new build, will be heading TD's way.

He is close enough and I have stopped by to visit with him before...hell of a nice guy to allow me a few minutes into his old "shop" to pick up a DVD burner that he recommended. Also you are 100% correct about his help and customer service. Last year when I was building this rig I use now he offered for me to send it over to him or bring it to him if I had any problems and he would work on it for me. Turns out I didn't need the help but to know that it was there and him helping me over the phone was a huge thing.

Title: Re: Rods New Build (review)
Post by: climber on December 25, 2010, 12:53:38 PM
I wanted to come back to this thread with a review after I had some time to get to know my new system.  I've not had too much time due to a hectic work schedule but already I can say, WOW!

TD has put together a system that met and exceeded all of my needs.  I asked for a system that could max the game within my budget and after a quick quote he built a the system seen in the beginning of this thread.

I must say the customer service, quality of build, and patience with someone who is not the most computer literate has been astounding.  I chose to pick my system up in Atlanta so I could forego the shipping and dropping and when I arrived at TilDeath's office I was warmly greeted and given a full tour of my new system.  He had even taken the liberty to load AH, the texture pack, and even all of the skins for me.  After I had gotten home I even received another phone call to ask if everything was running alright.  This is service that is not offered anyplace else folks!

I would definitely recommend giving TilDeath a call if you are looking for a new system.  He knows his stuff and can be trusted.

Also a big thank you to the folks who recommended him to me in the first place.

Personally, i think TDs build for climber is horribly underpowered and looked like he used the cheapest components he could find, that being said, just cuz I'm trying to be a "community guy" while I'm down, Climber, I'm willing to take that hunka junk off ur hands for $300 , I'll even pay freight ! :t

(Damn that's a nice lookin set-up) :x

I KNow you're joking coronado.......but i hafta say again(because it can't be said enough)

td's build for me was pretty customized to me, both need and price wise. his service was well above and beyond perfection. this machine has not yet given me a single problem.
when it comes time for me to upgrade, i will be on the phone to td again......to either improve on the machine i have, or to see if i can afford one that'll put this one to shame.  :aok

He has shipped to many AHers. As far as I know there was only one shipping issue. Give him a call. Many players have been VERY happy with what he builds, and how he does business.

To sum it up,  it was Mr Ripley's fault.   Also he is not giving discounts to Aces High players (yeah that is what he said on teamspeak).

On one hand I don't blame TD for getting angry and turning his back on the AH community as far as this goes.
On the other hand, I believe that TD should just 'suck it up' and move on.

I'm not trying to be rude, and believe me I understand that as a hobby, TD wasn't looking at making big profits (if any at all) from the AH community but he needs to understand that in doing so, he was spreading around good word of mouth and advertising his company.  I've had my hands in running businesses in the past and I've dealt with my fair share of complaints and ignorance (and the two usually go hand in hand) but turning my back to an entire community that is willing to purchase my products.. well that would just be economical suicide on any company's behalf!

IIRC TD does do a lot of business for commercial clients so this decision may not affect him financially that much, but if he wants to try to continue to get a part in the consumer marketplace, then this kind of behavior will severely limit his potential.

TD, you've been a great contributor to the Aces High community.  Don't let the ignorance of a few people dissuade you from doing what you like.

He will still build it for you but you aren't going to get anything out of him as far as technical help on this BBS. I for one hate that but I understand it; sometimes dingdongs make good people so mad they can't see straight and its best just to ignore the hard headed people.
