Title: <S> only shows up on saluted player's screen
Post by: caldera on December 20, 2011, 06:23:28 PM
How many dbags do I have to squelch here?

These two pics are from one event.  This has been going on for a while and is still not funny.  This VDALLAS guy is probably loving the attention anyway.

HTC, please make it so when you send a player a salute, only that player can see it.

You have the power to detune 200 or 1 or what ever that garbage channel is.   Be a much better game if they did away with it.

That is not 200 and already don't tune to that channel.  De-tuning all salute messages is the only way to get rid of all that spam.  Which would be fine, except that then I couldn't see if someone salutes me.

Probably have been PM-ed by him at one time or another but people like that stop PM-ing if you ignore them.  Hard to ignore a wall of spam if you are scanning text for something related to the game.

I kind of like this idea. Make it a PM to the other player.

if they wanted to salute you they could put your id in a text buffer and send the salute that way, right, just saying.

He shouldn't need to do that just because people are abusing the .s command to harass another player.

The first time it might have been ironic and worth a smile.

Everything beyond that is elementary school level.

Well, perhps the salut should just be between the two players involved, and not subject all the other players to the salute.  Does everyone really have to know who saluted who?  Isn't it enough that the two players involved know who saluted who?

That's a good idea.  Why didn't I think of that?   ;)

I think the whole point of the .s command is so that it's a public acknowledgment.

If you were to make it so that .s were not public, you might as well just remove the .s command as a whole.  You can just as easily .p a <S> to someone.

Seems odd to me that it bothers you enough to request a change, though.  Out of curiosity, what does it matter?  I find myself hardly ever paying attention to the chat buffer when I'm flying anyway.

But I guess if enough people think a fix is needed, the best fix in my mind would be to allow the user to either view all salutes, or just salutes directed to themselves.  A check box in the options menu would suffice.

I personally think the public salute thing is neat.

No need for it to be when you can acknowledge the fight on a public channel (200).

Fine.  No more <SALUTE> VDALLAS filling the screen.

The matter (<DeNiro voice>: Greg R.N.) is the text bar is filled with b.s. salutes.  Why does my request that those be removed bother you?   Especially considering you don't see them any way, due to your ignoring the text bar.

But I guess if enough people think a fix is needed, the best fix in my mind would be to allow the user to either view all salutes, or just salutes directed to themselves.  A check box in the options menu would suffice.
A better fix is just to show the <S> on the intended player's monitor.  You can still brag about it on 200 if you want the whole world to experience it.
I personally think the public salute thing is neat.
But you don't pay attention to the text bar, remember?

Why shoot down a solution that works for both parties?

Probably would be simpler to coad things.  Your idea would work fine, though.

Why negotiate with a bunch of d'bags that ruin it for everyone else?

A related wish:  A dot command to spam Delirium via PMs with a message of my choosing.  The command would be available to all players, but I would be the sole decider of its content.

But it's not 200, man.  Look at the two screenshots at the beginning of this thread and find the number "200".  Good luck.  :aok

Dallas has a tendancy to be logged into the game 23/7 afk. I don't think he's ever seen a salute barrage before.  We think it's funny when it happens and he's afk.

heres a thought. whenever you kill a Vguy PM him about how it was too damn easy and complain about not having the intense fight you wanted.

That i know of, he has never seen it. It usually occurs when he is not online. It usually starts with a player on 200 saying "Everyone .s vDallas!!". Then everyone joins in like its the first time it has been thought of. I find it quite amusing, and quite funny myself, but thats just cause i know he hasn't ever seen it and he tends to be offline or AFK when it happens.

Whats even better is to seen that people doing it multiple times. One of the users that i counted, saluted dallas 10-11 times. There are a few others on there that did it 5-6.
