Title: The next scenario: Der Grosse Schlag!
Post by: Brooke on July 07, 2007, 02:38:36 PM
The next scenario is:

It is November, 1944.  The US 8th Air Force is exerting itself to its limits, sending enormous waves of escorted heavy bombers into Germany for wide-ranging strikes in an attempt to bring Germany to its knees.  However, General Galland has gathered Luftwaffe resources and is focusing its remaining might, which is substantial.  His goal is to inflict horrific losses upon the 8th Air Force, preferably enough to crack its resolve.  His goal is to deliver “Der Grosse Schlag” -- The Great Blow.

This scenario will pit 8th Air Force P-51D’s, P-51B’s, P-47D-25’s, P-38J’s, P-38L's, B-24J’s, and B-17G’s against Luftwaffe Bf 109K-4’s, Bf 109G-14’s, FW 190D-9’s, and FW 190A-8’s.  The US will have strategic targets to destroy, and the Luftwaffe will do all it can to take down the enemy fighters and bombers.  This is a battle for supremacy in the skies over Germany.

Pilots get two lives each frame, and there will be four frames plus one practice frame.  The scenario is designed for a ratio of USAAF players to Luftwaffe players of 1.0 to 0.95 (nominally 112 USAAF fighter pilots and 27 USAAF bomber pilots to 130 Axis fighter pilots).

More details, when they are available, will be posted at:

Attention command pilots:

Both the Luftwaffe and USAAF sides are looking for command staff (such as Group Leaders).  If you are interested, please send a private message to Stampf (the LW CO) or Fencer51 (the USAAF CO).  Let them know that you are interested, and please tell them which scenarios you've played in and in what capacity (such as where you flew as a GL).

Hey Stampf, does the LW have anything that can at least comepete with the allied aircraft at 25+k? I was in an A8 last night on FSO, I was at 29k looking for buffs and 4 P38s went past me going like a rocket, I was lucky that they didn't turn round, otherwise I would have been toast.

The simple answer is NO.  We will be hard pressed at best, and only our superior planning and tactics will allow us to carry the day.  No fear sir, I have no intention of sacrificing the whole of the Gruppen in the west.

Perception is everything. There we were in those same buffs hoping we didn't run into those nasty A8s.

From now until the start of this, I'm flying nothing else but the A8, even if it means me dying multiple times, I'm going to learn this Aircraft and learn it well.
I'll probably take some buffs up high as well and the buffs perspective on this, see if I can identify weaknesses from a defensive point of view.
I'm still of the opinion that this is a deadly aircraft if flown correctly.

Check the current tour stats for me. That's what I'd like to fly, but I'll go wherever I'm needed.

Well with 80+ bombers I hope theres wind and not just a lil 5 mph breeze :)

Remember, this is a historical setup, not a mass raid- the 80+ bombers will probably be split between 2-4 targets and coming at staggered times.

If I were you, I'd worry more about the 144 Little Friends marauding about... :D

Huh  I could of sworn that in WWII there where giant buff raids with 80+ bombers......

I never said they would be in one group and all hit one target.

I said

All I said is that there where 80+ bombers didnt say anything about one giant pack, or one target..........

144? Im confused I thought the Allies had 112 Fighter and 27 Bombers. 112 + 27 = 139. and if you times the 27 x 3 thats 81. So 81 + 112 = 193? What 144 lil friends are you talking about Im confused?

I was watching the http://ahevents.org/scenarios/registration.html page waiting for registration to open, but a friend told me that even though that page says registration is not open, things are already getting organized!  How does one get involved?
Title: The next scenario: Der Grosse Schlag!
Post by: ROC on July 21, 2007, 03:49:00 PM
Registration is Officially going to begin in August.

The COs are currently recruiting team members for all positions, there is a very active recruitment drive underway for both sides.

Contact Fencer for Allied Involvement and Stampf for Axis.

The respective forums are already up, and we are hoping for large teams in place by the time registration opens.

Bear in mind, we can stuff as many players into this event as we want, so get involved earlier, this is one of the scenarios that will be best if we pack the house.

I didn't word that quite right, I want to be involved as in fly in it, but just as a pilot.  The event being mid-day I can't guarantee that I will be able to make it so I couldn't lead a flight or anything.  I got the impression (mistakenly I think) that if one didn't get signed up now you'd be out of luck to fly in the event.

Howdy, I was talkin to ROC in the MA last night, and am interested in flyin in this next scenario. I was in Coral Sea as a walk-on( lone surviving Kate), and as a walk-on in Husky.I loved both. I  mainly fly U.S.iron (38s), but will work with any plane assigned.(cant hit the ground with bombs from buffs).Just ready to practice and have some fun, will fly axis or allies.

                                                       Thanks

Well unless something has changed that I'm unaware of, the D-9s and K-4's will hang with the ponys above 20k and eat the -47s and -38s alive. If you keep your E up in the D-9 the ponys can follow you but they won't catch you. I look forward to changing your oppinion this senario Stampf... :aok

I think the 30k stangs were on my mind VWE but I certainly am open to the schooling sir. :aok  My opinion on the scenario is not reflected in my thoughts about the various plane performances at alt.  The Axis gonna open a can of hurt on these boys, and frankly my honest opinion from the early signs is that this will be the best scenario yet, regardless of outcomes.  That is my hope at least.  Extreme fun for all in a nicely set up, well planned format.

Post by: VWE on July 28, 2007, 12:25:57 AM
Unfortunately tactics seem to get thrown out the window in these senarios when you get into a furball. Axis needs to have some discussion on this issue in our forum.

Post by: Stampf on July 28, 2007, 12:33:56 AM
You are correct about the quickly deteriorating adhesion that often occurs shortly after the fight is joined.  We will overcome that.  Strategy, tactics, Doctrine, have all begun in the Axis Command Forums VWE, and shortly after registration opens, those threads will be brought over to Axis General.

You are 100% spot on imo.  Who ever better co-ordinates, and controls their cartoon forces the best, has the best chance to carry the day.

Post by: Guppy35 on July 28, 2007, 12:37:49 PM
I think both COs and their command staffs are fairly intent on trying to make this more then a pig pile.

Wingmen, squad and flight coordiation etc will be big stuff.  We don't get the opportunity much to try and fly it like our heros did.  This should be a good time to get as close as a flight sim will allow us.

Post by: StuB on August 17, 2007, 04:04:44 PM
It depends on the individual as to whether they would enjoy it.

Personally, I'd say yes.

In the very least you will learn allot about flying and fighting as well as history and you will get a chance to fly with some of the best sticks in AH.

The immersion in these events can't be beat.  I say go for it.

If you are willing to spend a good deal of time in practice sessions, respond to forum posts, and be part of a team that has Orders handed down from someone else and Follow those orders, then you will enjoy this event.

If you want to solo, don't like being told what to do and where to fly and what to not only attack but NOT attack, then no, you won't like a scenario.

These are very organized, very structured events.  Flight skills always improve  after one of these.  It's virtually impossible to come out the other side of a well organized and driven scenario without a significantly different view on the game and new abilities.

Muskie, it can really be a lot of fun regardless of your skill level. It's certainly a lot more organized, and can provide an awesome feeling of immersion. I definitely recommend giving it a shot at least once, even if you just look for a walkon spot.
