Great looking skins, and so many of them I find it difficult to keep up with their progress in the skins forum.

You guys can make a plane look great, no matter how bad the pilot makes it look; speaking for myself there in the second part.

It really adds a lot to the game, and it's appreciated.

Planes with 10 or more skins get a lot of my time in the hangar, picking out what best suites my current mood. :aok

Hoping to see some of the maps submitted in the rotation soon.

Hey guys, kudos for the great skins. They really do make the game more authentic and interesting.  I was wondering if any of you fantastic skinners would be interested in recreating my father's B-24 that he flew in as a navigator in WWII. The crew named their aircraft "Little Lulu." I have color renditions of the aircraft which I can provide.

The aircraft was a B-24H, serial# 42-52479, attached to the 15th AF, 55th BW, 464thBG/776thBS. It was factory olive drab in color with the gray underbelly and had great black and yellow markings.  The nose art was the cartoon character "Little Lulu" in a red dress, standing on a dropping bomb holding her signature lollipop. The aircraft amassed 52 of those yellow lollipops painted on the nose before she was shot down on mission 53 by a bf-109 on a bombing mission over Czechoslavakia. My dad and his crew were not in the aircraft on that fatal mission.  They had earned their ticket home three days before and were packing their B-4 bags for rotation back to the U.S. Incredible providence!

I personally fly with the Dickweed Heavy Bomber Group in AH and myself was a career Naval Aviator, flying the P-3 Orion subhunter.  This game is very meaningful to me and I fly mostly bombing missions, although I do try to venture in to fighter world on occassion but am not very good in that space. I am 74 now, and it would be a great honor for me to be able to fly my dad's aircraft in the game.  But even more importantly, it would honor his memory for many more years to come and I would be eternally grateful.  :salute

ezglider, thank you for your service.

Is this your Dad's aircraft?

Looks like an interesting and colorful scheme...

Yes, that was his aircraft. It's a sad anniversary for the crew that took "Little Lulu" after my dad's crew completed their 52 missions in her on 8/20/1944 and earned the right to go home. "Little Lulu" was shot down on 8/24/1944 (the very next mission) and 9 of the 10 crewmen perished. It weighed heavily on my dad that it was them and not him. PTSD was called shell shock in those days and you were expected to just get over it with time. For my dad, the magic medicine was alcohol. But he eventually came to grips with it, had four children and five grand children and is now resting comfortably in Arlington National Cemetery, literally at the foot of the Air Force Memorial.

Having his aircraft in Aces High would be a great tribute to him, his crew and especially  the crew that made the ultimate sacrifice in this warbird. I would be proud to pilot that bird through the dangerous sky of Aces High to honor their service.

Hi EZ,

I think Greebo is our best hope for completion of this skin in a reasonable time frame - he has done a number of B-24s most recently and so has the panel lines and rivet layers created already, and would be familiar with the weathering and grime patterns that develop on the airframe.  I'd be starting from scratch.   It looks like ftJR has also done a B-24 but it must've been quite a while ago as there is no image for it on the B-24 skin download page.

I'll wait to see what he says.   I'd eventually like to do some more bombers; the B-17 is the only one I've tackled so far.  But I'm afraid it might be quite a wait if I took this one on.

Many thanks oboe! I hope "Little Lulu" is a project Greebo would find interesting and fun to do. There certainly is  a lot of history involved. <S> ez
