Question: Which variation of D-Day invasion stripes would be best for Gabreski's P-47? The full set was applied on June 5th, and used until the end of June, when aircraft were instructed to remove the upper stripes. Gabreski's ground crew had painted a unique version of the full stripes, omitting the black stripes on top, and outlining the white fuselage stripes with back trim. Very unusual and distinct.
The lower stripes only version returned to a more traditional D-Day stripe arrangement, but this was only used from the time his aircraft had the upper stripes removed (early July '44?) until he bellied his aircraft in while strafing an enemy airfield on 20 Jul 44.

Do the earlier version, because of the unique stripes.

Agreed :aok

Definitely the full striped one.

Work-in-progress shot. Really a colorful scheme. Sliding canopy is extra :) .

Also happened to find a terrific painting of "HV-A" by Tomasz Kaca - just beautiful work by a very talented artist:

Super nice!

Looks great so far.
I think the red could be a bit darker, though.

Very nice job Oboe, looks great.

I really like the unique fuselage stripes.

WOOT !!!!

Latest version. Spec, Power and Environmental maps updated for the camouflage pattern, increased the red in the cowl and rudder trim paint, darkened the whites more.

Were the bazooka tubes really blue?

Doubt it, I don't have control over them; I think that's probably what the default spec and power maps do it. They're probably dark grey and the max values of the maps turn them blue.

Ah, bummer. They look super weird like that.

Looks fantastic, Oboe. This kinda stuff keeps the interest and intrigue for AWII high.
As far as the bazooka tubes go, the scale modeler sites I looked at described them as "a metallic hue". Light blue rhymes with hue so close enough I say.
Keep up the fine work, sir.

Good stuff, V. Thanks!

Glad to help. :salute

The canopy frames are unusual. Retouched photo? Creative paint for a movie? "The Big Lift" (1950)?

Did a quick scan of the film and saw no 47s...
