Title: people you are glad that helped you
Post by: guncrasher on November 14, 2014, 03:41:10 AM
I remember when I was a new guy and had built my first puter and couldnt log in.  game would crash every time.  it was like 1 am and posted a post in the technical support.  within 5 minute silat  asked me to post a dxdiag.  then he explained to me that I didnt yet have set up my sound card.  10 minutes later I was up and running.

second was an unknown guy that very carefully explained to me that the hangar I was dropping all my bombs and rockets on was the indestructible, but he said that I was dropping my bombs right on target and that was the important thing.

My brother introduced me to Aces High and I haven't left the house much since then.  He's saved me thousand$$$ on dating women way out of my league, that I would always be ending up home alone anyway.

NRShida, Dolby, RedBull, Fudmukkr, Latrobe, Barkhorn, all of my squadmates: F77, 50CALMG, Rollya. There are probably many others, but these are those who I give credit to for improving my flying and keeping me sane and ingame.

Citabria/Fester back in 99/2000.

Also Agent360, back in the mid 2000s he was one of the better G10/k4 pilots, and made a lot of great help videos back before making videos was popular and common.

I would also say for new players, guys like VuduVince/Vudu15/etc  don't get enough credit for the work and time they put into "new guy" training videos.

It amazes me how people from all around the world can get on AH and it seems in no time they are communicating in English with the rest of the arena.  :aok

I can even speak some language!
Kippis!
Czek!
Holkynkolkyn!
Horrido!
Jo Ho!  :D

Because English is mandatory in sooooo many countries as a second language or even third but here you just need a C in it and no requirement to learn more. Something I wish a younger me with time on my hands had realized the importance of.

But fortunately everyone in the arena speaks fluent Pipz.  :aok

As to those that helped me, vilkas was there to guide me back in 2007 when I first started as volvo744.

And more recently, everyone who has fun in the game and wants to fight and enjoy it for what it is; a game with a lot of different personalities and direction. The ones who thoroughly annihilate you yet compliment you. More importantly they stick around s you may come back for more, learning their tricks and tells, and using the same plane sometimes to figure out how they make it look so easy.

I think that is what makes this game and community so good. The people who help out whether it is with the training page, here on the boards, in the TA, or in the arenas, far out number the A-holes who seem to enjoy spoiling the fun of others.

Most recently - Kingpin. Big Salute!

This guy has the patience of Job.  He took the time to hear me out and tailor our session to me and my weaknesses.  If he is available, I recommend getting with him for a session if you want to improve.

There are many others that have taken the time to help me along the way starting with =SD= in WBs.  Lilmak from my squad is a great influence and is always receptive to questions and simply just wants to help.

I want to mention Brooke here.  When we were getting ready for the Pearl Harbor scenario, he went out of his way to help MANY flyers.  Big Salute!

From Air Warrior: Dawn. Her husband was spending too much time flying AW so she took over the game and shot us all down. Totally schooled me flying an A-26 against my spitty and then gave me my first lesson in ACM

From AH:
First and foremost: Morfiend. Can't say enough about this guy.
Agent360's highly instructional videos on flying the K4.
Kingpen (now known as Roick) for inspiring me to fly the FM2.
The guys from the 357th who taught me how to bomb.

I learn a lot from flying against:

Latrobe: Great stick and always ready to offer good suggestions.
Dolby: ditto
2cmex (despite the rage he engenders, he is a challenge).
Bruv, because there's only one Mozart of AH

Everyone I've fought against for the past 18 years.  Some of them (many) helped me find the tower... some of them rather quickly.  Regardless they all provided a learning experience, even though I may have been slow on the uptake.

Everyone who's posted on these boards about BFM, ACM, technique, aerodynamics and fighting in this environment in general.

Final thanks to Kesmai and HTC without whom none of the above would have been possible.

Ripsnort, Daddog, all the Fat Drunk Bastards taught me humor trumped kills everytime.

SHawk taught me how to be great bait.  Man, I've given that guy so many kills!

Over the years, there's always a guy or two you tend to wing with.

Nuke proved to me he's a lousy wingman.  You'll get killed five times and he'd still be in the channel stirring it up while on autoclimb. LOL  :)

Going way back to AW days.... Subby and NoBaddy (He was going by "Fidel" at the time).  They took the time to duel me many times and showed me the ropes. It immediately gave me a leg up vs. the rest of the noobs in the Arena, and got me interested in learning ACM. I can trace all my skills (what little they may be) to the foundation that they helped lay down for me. Even though its just a video game, I am very grateful for the time they took to help me out. I was only a teenager at the time and it greatly helped my confidence.

There are a few of people that really helped me to become a better fighter than I already thought I was coming out of H2H into the the big MA in 2005-6. First was Batfink, we did so many 1v1s in the spit5s and you really helped me develop my game in fighter. Next was (phish) Bighorn, who taught me merges and fighter angles in dueling. Both of these men helped me tremendously in the dueling game. And they were surely happy to help me get better, record them, and kick my arse over and over again.

The third was Cooley, when I first got invited into the 367th Dynamite Gang, I was mearly just a fighter pilot. But he taught me how to bomb, Dive Bomb, capture bases with a squad, and become a squadron player in the MA. That was a great group of fellas. Well, he also taught me the most amazing trick, the defensive BRD, and another move that I shall not mention  :devil. I did not realize it then, but these maneuvers would take me to a whole nother level.

It's really great to find people who want to see and instruct players to fly better in this game.  <S> to these players.

When I started the game as Tbear, it was Papajohn, doomed and gdzilla with JG77 who helped me to learn the game.....I think they are all long gone now....since then there have been many..Dr. Bone and most of the guys in the original Top Gun stand out for helping try to make me a better dueler(I emphasize try)....and of course lately the members of Aces of the Rising Sun and the Muppets...... lots of help in the game if you ask... :old:

Latrobe ---> He is wise, that is all.
Messiah ---> Learned a bit from him shooting up a few of my bombers (and colliding with them!!)
999000 ---> Learned ALOT from him on shooting up fighters from my bombers  :salute
Sandy ---> Squadmate who is willing to spend the time to review aspects of the game with a new user - Sandy, my old man, Shriike is very thankful you spent time with him on the controls and procedures for level bombing.

Many may not agree but;

Jayro ---> I've learned a bit from tagging along when he calls for "strike missions"... I suppose I learned from watching all the other pilots in close proximity more so than from him (even though he's answered my questions without bein a d*nk)

(i noticed Jayro's ride always seems to be a little higher and farther back than the main group... )

I only wish I knew some of the greats/legends described above, great community for the most part... I got chewed out last night for being the last to move a CV group (I was NOT trying to get it killed, sheesh )

So many people have helped me over the years, however, I have trouble remembering a lot of the names.  :(

One that sticks out though was a gentlemen by the name of 1776 IIRC. When I started AH I was nothing more than a high school squeaker and no one wanted to have anything to do with me. However, one day 1776 took me aside and showed me the ropes of flying bombers (well the B17 and B26 since those were the only two in the game) and explained how the game worked. He really helped me out and made me a better pilot. Another pilot that helped me was FunkedUp, besides being funny as hell and a great squadie he sent me joystick he won at the AH convention to replace my $15 Walmart stick that wasn't that great. Snaphook also comes to mind. He sent me one of his old sticks a few years ago to help me out, and he spent a lot of time in the TA showing me the ropes.

So many people over the years, really shows how great of a community we have.

Wm lute gave me some great advice and took me under his wing. Before that I was just a lemming. In fact in my pm inbox his reply to me is entry number 1.

Over the years many friendly people have chimed in .... if you are new .... go to the da, not fur all lake and see who is flying the short engagements on the low fields. Have had the most epic fights between them.

Also, Latrobe, for coming up with some of the most insanely fun missions I have encountered.  I have also been watching his videos on youtube.   :salute. Keep up the good work.  I also need them to go easy on me for I am flying Rooks at the moment trying to get into the Arabian Knights.  I hope to meet more of you soon.  Keep AH going, nothing else compares.   :joystick:

I remember one of the first lessons I learned was to never trust a bomber.  I dove in at high speed as I had been trained on a b17.  I put a couple of bullets than tried to pull up and my airplane wouldnt.  I pulled the stick tried to drop flaps and nothing.  then I looked behind me and notice my full tail section was gone.  I got a message "you got killed by 999".  ever since then I always check before I dive in on a b17 to see which country 999 is on.
