Title: Dunno about Pyemia - but, I'm getting my butt kicked
Post by: Curval on December 03, 2001, 07:32:00 AM
I thought I would get my butt handed to me for a while, but since joining I only have one kill (on my first flight) and two assists.

When I show up I think the other pilots start to drool....mmmmmmmmm fresh newbie..allahhahhahhahah (Homer Simpson drooling sounds)....

I think the average skill level in AH is pretty damn good....either that or I am pretty damn "bad".....probably a mix of both.

Hook up with a trainer.  Not only will they show you some proper ACM, but they might even fly strait and level for ya a couple of times!   :)

Heh, check this out:

Tour 2:
stclaus has 19 kills and has been killed 42 times.

Tour 3:
stsanta has 230 kills and has been killed 96 times.

Tour 22:
stsanta has 330 kills and has been killed 47 times. (most of the deaths being in GV's)

Give it some time. In a tour or two, you'll be wiping your butt with the burned out remnants of my FW  :)

Gunnery is a bit different, but flying is not so much so. I find that transitioning back to AH from playing other games has its greatest impact for me there. I can't tell you how many times I have been right behind someone and not been able to hit them. Getting in the saddle isn't too tough; finishing them off is (for me).

If you see me you should be able to get a kill... I'm newbie fodder.  Low and slow in a corsair.  dogfighting the spits and niks.

Perhaps some traning is in order...although my pride will have to take a "back-seat"...

Remember,

A bruised ego is the first casualty of these online sims.  It takes time, training, reading, and lots of practice.  Some of these guys have been doing it for a decade!  As long as you keep having fun, it's all worth it. :)

It took me forever to land a kill in AH.  (It was HiTech... I do love bringing that up  :))

Then it took me forever to land another.  Now I still suck, but at least my ratio is in the black!

Hang in there, I know how frustrating it can be!

Your probelm is 3 fold, Curval.

1. You are on the same side as me. (Easy kill everytime. Don't believe me, check out the stats of this Old Newbie Callsign: Muckmaw)

2. You need to practice your split-S, and Immelman. This seems to be the bane of newer pilots. Also, 3 point landings must be mastered before you can be a true Jedi.

3. Your Grandfather was'nt a Mechanic on a FW-109GHLMNOP in World War 2, therefore, you lack the genetics to be a good pilot.

Sorry, pal. Join me in PTs!

Curval:
Congrats on getting hooked up with a trainer! This will help you a lot. This sime isn't much different than many others, it does take some getting used to the different flight model. Contrary to the drivel pyemia wrote, this FM is different and it is an aspect of THIS sim, comparisons to others is inappropriate. Learn to land, learn acm if you don't know it, or relearn acm with this different fm.
Figure out what kind of pilot you want to be in the game, and practice it.
Tkae the training seriously and avoid trying to get all of your questions answered in one session; take it in parts. Good luck to you  :)
