What happened to white exterior/tan interior/black-faced guages?
-
Depends on your target market. Lots of people pay big bucks to change their dashboard look with after market parts.
-
Nice colored guages, gives a more "hip" thing to this bucket. The grand am always bugged me at night, the whole dash board illuminates red and it's agressing my sanity level.

That's actually a good point. A set of tan Wet Okole seat covers, hopefully somebody will sell after-market gauges with black faces and white numbers, might not be so bad. Might be the first time somebody spent money to take a hopped car back to a more conservative look.
Still, I wish it came in white. :( Maybe in 2005.

I read an article recently that said car manufacturers are deliberately making cars that look ugly because they polarize the market. Instead of having a choice between a bunch of cars that basically look the same and have the same conservative colors and trims, they make cars that some people will hate and other people will love.
The Avalanche, for instance. Incredibly ugly, but very popular because a big group of people really like it. Same with the Aztec, yucky looking car, but it's different enough from the comptetition that even if only 20% of the population likes it, that 20% REALLY likes it and buys it because there's nothing else out there like it.
Interesting article. Basically, the car industry has adopted the motto 'You can please all of the people some of the time or you can please some of the people all of the time" and has turned it into a sales strategy that is working.

LOL! Ever heard of the Grand National? No selection at all. It was simply one of the 5 quickest cars during its production run. If the car's made to be fast... the rest is well down on the list of priorities.

Yeah, but you can't go wrong with a black exterior and black interior. Black never goes out of style.

And black/black is one of the options. You're the one saying no version offered in white is going to kill sales.

That's not a sports car.

Yeah, but black/black as the only option is a lot different from having black/black as one of 7 options with no white/tan. I'm not sure I can handle the red leather and red instrument faces. Kinda '80s disco-ish.
Barbados Blue? Eh, might fly here in Florida. I'll have to see it in person. Certainly not going for the yellow or Impulse Blue.

GM has little choice but to go with glitzy ornamentation to compete. They certainly can't compete on engineering and substance, so they have to emphasize style.

It's GM... who cares?

Love the car have a yellow one pre-ordered.

and probably one of the most boring color cominations one can think of, but hey beauty is in the eye of the beholder.
Re-tuning mine to just over 400hp and upgrading the suspension for the track...it is after all based on an Aussie V-8 supercar.

That makes absolutely no sense.
