Title: Explosions galore? Pyro
Post by: Wingnut_0 on August 12, 2000, 11:52:00 PM
This is not a whine but more of a post of a problem.  Surely I'm not the only one that's noticed or had this problem.

I've noticed that I'm constantly getting blown up when hit.  It'd be safe to say in the last 10 times I've been downed 7 of those my plane has exploded from a quick shot.

Now I understand that AH models the hits on particular parts of the airframe etc.  When it comes to say fuel tank ruptures, is AH also modeling a random chance on explosions or is there something in your modeling that boom your hit you blow up everytime.

I fly axis AC only (except bombers) so these are the only planes I can say I've noticed this.  Would you look into this or at least asure me that i'm imagining it.:-) Thx.

That's normally a pilot death.

Yeah it would be cool to differentiate big explosions from pilot deaths.  I'd like to see the plane keep going if the pilot dies.  Change the color of the icon to indicate that he has expired, but don't just make the plane go blooey.

Hm, 19 out of 20 kills for me is wing shot off/tail shot off or something similar like that.

Then I upped with a 30mm cannon in my nose. I was very surprised when the plane suddenly did not only go down, but UP as well. KABLOOM.

Depends what you're hit by, I'd say.

But when my pilot has been hit..I get that slow dying feel about to blk out.  Are you saying that the exploding is caused by a direct pilot kill?

Yes wingnut. Just as when you bail out your plane "dissapears" (somethign I wish it didnt), when the pilot gets killed the plane has to dissapear...thus it blows up. And that's why HO'ing 17's is popular  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/biggrin.gif)

It's been mentioned before, but I think it'd be great to see an abandoned plane (or plane with a dead pilot inside) keep flying until it augered...without even changing the color of the icon.  I think it'd be pretty interesting in a big furball!

Yeah SOB... it would look cool, but think of the bandwidth wasted and the graphics slowdown from pilotless planes....

Aside from that, you would have to implement something to keep the plane from flying by itself... if trimmed right it could keep going until it ran out of gas.  That's way more load than you want to put on the server.
