Title: Homepage for SquadOps
Post by: lucull on November 01, 2003, 07:03:05 PM
Together with a friend of mine I have put a page together that might be useful until the new event homepage of the CM team comes up.
This is work of 2 days, eventho it's unfinished, I would like you to take a look at it what it is capable already.

What this page is good for:

- password protected area -> no emails in public

- login for already registered squad/users or register a new squad

- squadinformations for registered users contains:

- list of all on this site registered squads with the info above

- change of the infos with your username/password

- registration for upcoming SO series for friday and sunday with:

- overview of side assignments by CM for SO series, so you have the squads and contacts of your side (not finished)

- admin interface which is able to:

Interested now? :D

Check it out at http://squadops.dweebs.de .
Click on "Fly in" and use squadops/squadops to log in.
Choose "new user" and fill out the form. Note your username and password! ;)
Log in with your username and password and take a look around.
To get to the "real login" screen from the index page ("Fly in"), always use squadops/squadops. Maybe a bit paranoid, but this protects also the registration of new not authorized people.

Please write here your comments.

Many, many thanks go to Kay "kayser" Schumann, who wrote most of the scripts, introduced me to PHP/mySQL and spend many hours with me to realize my ideas.

Nice work, works great.

We need all Squad ops COs to get their info in there.

It would be nice if we could get a seperate list of squads registered for Friday and Sunday though.

This is how the email looks the script sends:

Dear Admin CM,

332nd Flying Mongrels wants to join the next friday scenario with 16-20 participants on the axis side.

Regards

daddog

When we started working on this, I tried to be very simple. All I wanted to do, was just a simple list of squads with their contacts and password protect it. Well, my friend added some things unasked and then I started having weird ideas of other things we could implement. :D
Mostly his answer was: "No problem, that's easy. We can do that." :aok
To get a list for both friday and sunday now, is not that trivial to implement, but "no problem, we can do that." ;)

That is exactly, what it's meant for. :)

Any other suggestions?

What I need from someone, would be logo for SquadOps. As you can see, there is not single graphics in it now.
Secondly, I wanna implement, that the admin could also upload a map for his next series from admin interface and and it will be a link in the description which opens a new window with it.

If someone is getting just a white screen after logging in, you have to check if you allow cookies for at least my site.
If you still have white screens, lower the security settings of your browser for at least my site, but I think the changing cookie settings will be sufficient.

Changes:

Btw, I gave daddog admin rights, so he can access the admin panel and see what's behind the curtain. :D

Can you give me them too, please?  My squad doesn't take part in the SquadOps, unfortunately, so I was unable to give information to get in that way, and I'm very interested to see what its like in there.   :)

Hehe, you could register with what ever you want to get a username/password.
Now, I have done that for you and granted you admin rights. Check your email for username/password.

The site is just in beta test, so everybody could register to get access and take a look. If we will use it, I will of course change login and clean up the data. This is very easy. ;)
So, don't be shy :D

Still to do:

wtg lucull thats a great idea! :aok

some idea's:

- add an option to register and browse the site without the need to register a whole squad

example: i went in to the site and when i pressed the new user i had to "create" a new squad
so maybe the default registration should be a private one and add a "create squad" button in the squads list page

- a password protected forum for the axis and allies so they could plan and discuss orders for each frame
allso a general forum that could be seen by all registered users

thats it :)

keep up the good work

oh and tell kayser flyboy say's hi, i helped him a bit when that EU WB started he really rocks! :aok

Good idea. I'm already rethinking the whole structure of login procedures (I was a little bit paranoid and too restrictive :D).

Geezus! You know how much work this would be? ;)
Not that it would be impossible, BUT I think this AH BB is enough ... and I'm too lazy to create subforums and edit usergroups every 3 weeks. ;)
I think that would go a little bit too far.

Private forums would be possible here; however, as Lucull mentions, it would be a lot of work to change who has access to each for every new SquadOp (as well as needing separate ones for Friday and Sunday).  As for a general forum - this is it!  :D

why going  with the head in to the wall? :)

couldnt you just set a password to a furom?

you will just change it every squadops and Email the password to the CO's

a forum for a country helps alot in the planning and makes for an overall batter planning for the event, (from expirience)

still its only an idea ;)

When you register your squad for a scenario, you submit the commitment level to the CM. Just look above, how this email looks.
Secondly, I'm about to add a list for side assignments for sceanarios. This list includes not only the side, but also the commitment level. This list is already available in the admin panel and can be edited by the CM. Be patient. I can't script this by myself and need kayser's help for this.

No.
But, I'm already considering to add some more informations for the squads (logo, link to homepage).

Just a reminder, my site is only meant as a temporary solution until the new AH event page is released. ;)

Side assignment lists for friday and sunday are integrated now.

I've finished working so far. :)
