CBS STATEMENT REGARDING 'THE REAGANS'
"CBS will not broadcast THE REAGANS on November 16 and 18. This decision is based solely on our reaction to seeing the final film, not the controversy that erupted around a draft of the script.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
BULL **** guess they realized you can only "make up" so much stuff before people get P-offed. They been talking about this myth they have of Reagan at their parties for so long they began to belive it. But when checked against history it dosn't hold up.
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Although the mini-series features impressive production values and acting performances, and although the producers have sources to verify each scene in the script, we believe it does not present a balanced portrayal of the Reagans for CBS and its audience. Subsequent edits that we considered did not address those concerns.
A free broadcast network, available to all over the public airwaves, has different standards than media the public must pay to view. We do, however, recognize and respect the filmmakers' right to have their voice heard and their film seen. As such, we have reached an agreement to license the exhibition rights for the film to Showtime, a subscriber-based, pay-cable network. We believe this is a solution that benefits everyone involved.
This was not an easy decision to make. CBS does tackle controversial subjects and provide tough assessments of prominent historical figures and events, as we did with films such as 'Jesus,' '9-11' and 'Hitler.' We will continue to do so in the future."

yea yea bla bla "im am not a crook" "no new taxes" "arms to iran?whats my name again?" the only sentence that counts is.
"producers have sources to verify each scene in the script"
the rest is obvious to any non party member.
-
Regan has his good and bad points. He created the second largest period of economic growth in the history of the U.S. He ended the cold war also.

Better check your sources. You've quoted 2 different presidents, and "what's my name again?" was never uttered by a president.
I think the Oval Office quote you are looking for is "Who's your Daddy?"
-
I heard CBS was looking to sell it to a cable channel to recoup some of their costs in making the stinkeroo.
-
gee vader , your one confused neo-lib, 'i'm not a crook" was nixon, 'no new taxes" was bush sr.
Reagan was "tear down this wall"
you really need to get "your" facts straight.
PS. and of course , clintons was "i never had sex with that woman"
-
no reagan was "I don't know if I remember"
-
davidpt40: He ended the cold war also.
So I guess the commonly accepted wisdom that free market and democracy are superior to oppressive command-style regime is all a bunch of crap. And that communism does not necessarily have to fail under the burden of it's own deficiencies.
We just needed a (super?)hero...
Let me guess - German Historicism School of 19th century as embodied by Gustav von Schmoller & Co. There are no regularities in historic development, no economic laws, nothing but leaders with will and charisma. I thought that was long obsolete. Guess not.

This would be second only to the Clinton economic growth period?
-
I think it's fascinating how many people condemned it without seeing it.

My favorite reagan-ism was..
"The bombs start falling in 5 mins..."
AHAHHAHAHA!!!
I love that bit.
They are selling the show to Showtime...
And I'm calling them to cancel my subscription...no...I'm not kidding.

That extreme liberal biotch Streisand must be one pissed off little nazi. She had a heck of hand in putting together that untrue and slanted piece of garbage.

How do you all know how slanted it is? Has a copy of it been released on Kazaa?
-
they released some quotes. one was reagan being totaly uncaring about the aids. the statement was nothing a conservative christian would have a problem with.
but the same quote pretty much showed him to be a "not nice"
person. i.e. if you had aids you were living in sin and deserved to die.
the truth about reagan aint pretty to a non conservative.

Reagan is the Republican's SACRED Cow.
They get real nervous when the infidels start mocking their cow.
CENSORSHIP!

CBS can PULL MY FINGER:aok

"My fellow Americans, I am pleased to tell you I just signed
legislation which outlaws Russia forever. The bombing begins in five
minutes."
Ronald Reagan, 1984

Did he have to apologize for that?

"THE REAGANS" is garbage...as Washington Post media expert Howie Kurtz pointed out, the writers actually made up quotes and attributed them to Reagan. [By the way, it was the NY Times that broke the story by reporting the made-up quotes. So much for the conspiracy of the liberal media elite. I wish leading conservatives journalists would point out how inaccurate Rush Limbaugh has been over the years.]
Kurtz also asked why, if the movie isn't accurate enough to be shown on the network, why is it okay to show it on cable? (It has not in fact been pulled.)
The people who made this series were some terribly ignorant, fuzzy-thinking, knee-jerk liberals. My guess is that now the push will be on to have a miniseries about Reagan made by ignorant, fuzzy-thinking, knee jerk conservatives.
For Reagan, in his own words, click here and scroll down. (http://www.geocities.com/thereaganyears/reaganquotes.htm)

From a 'Historical' view you're probablity right, but who the hell would want to watch it?

Selective reading again?
Nothing to do with politics in my book....the fact that anyone would offer up character assasination of a dying man who cannot defend himself, turns my stomach.
You enjoy that aspect of this Vader?

JBA,
I'm eagerly waiting for the link to the media accuracy group that gives Rush a 98.8%.
I've caught Rush using falsehoods to support his beliefs many times in the past. An example: After George W's inauguration, Rush said that the only place you could see protesters was on the liberal media networks. He said, that although he hadn't been there, he understood that protesters just weren't around much at all. The networks deliberately misrepresented the event, according to Rush.
Well....I work near the White House and I had to work the day of the Inauguration. I was able to spend about an hour walking around and I can tell you there were many protesters, and they were not hard to see.
Want more proof of Rush's wrongs?
Go to OZKansas's post "Taxes" in the "O Club" and scroll down to my second post there.

In my opinion, the best media watchdog group is Fairness and Accuracy In Reporting (FAIR). They take on everyone, from The New York Times to Fox News. I subscribe to their excellent publication, "Extra!"

Reagan's son protested the release after watching a preview. He stated that many of the scenes and quotes were totally uncharacteristic of his father.
Not having seen it myself, I cannot pass judgement on it.
I'm sure it was just as unbiased as West Wing.

Politics spoiled the Reagan love story. Maybe they can try again with "THE CLINTONS."
