Ramzey,
I currently have SBC DSL and I'm very happy with it. It's never gone down and I get 1.5Mbit download on it. However, if I had the choice I would go with the cable modem. I had one in LA before I moved and my download speed was double my current DSL and I always had great pings. Too bad Comcast does not offer it in my area.

I still have to pry go to court to fight SBC Global.
No matter what, do anything but have them screw up your online service.
I got Charter Cable afterwords and it's just night and day.

I tried cable and DSL. The DSL was and is much more solid and had less fluctuation than the cable. This is my experience only.

I had Earthlink DSL (SBC) and Comcast cable (AT&T). My cable is 3x faster and I have had zero outages. With Earthlink/SBC there were frequent problems with the line, authorization servers, speed, etc. I really hate cable companies, but my DSL experience was teh 5uxx0r.

Have DSL at work, cable at home. Cable is a lot faster.
My brother lives near me, tried DSL , then gave up and went with COX cable ( my provider)
In my area cable is less expensive and faster than DSL.
