I need some ideas on what kinda computer to get. I got specs from the CGW Magazine Lean Machine thingy. What do you guys think of that?
Are there any computers out there that are very compatible?
Like Dell or HP? I know HP isn't compatible..I don't even have any AGP ports
I need some ideas for what "SANTA" can bring me..:lol
Something that can run BF1942 and AH2!
-
Build you'r own:aok
-
Emachines. they're cheap.
-
Ask funked, hes a computer genious.
-
Funked has a court order to stay away from me.. Even on these boards..:lol
I'd love to build my own but I just need to know what goes best together and whats cheap...I don't care for a large screen..Don't care for cordless keyboard or mouse..Speakers can go, cause well Headphones rule..:aok

I can give you at least one good advice: stay away from brand comps and build your own, you'll get much better comp for better price.
I'm sure you'll find more than enough advices on what parts you need and you don't have to worry about building it totally on your own, since I'm quite sure the stores will build it up once you have picked the parts to put into it.
-
OK , give me a parts list so i can build a game computer ( not a top line killer machine, just one i can play the game with) for under $400.
-
athon barton core 2500+ and a ati 9600 pro= bf1942 with all eye candy high res and ah2 all eye candy and high res.
-
go to
http://www.pricewatch.com/
mix and match what you need with what you can salvage from your old machine. (cd,floppy, keyboard etc.)
got to each manufactures web sites and look for the faq on any issues with the parts compatabilty.
order the parts from the cheepest source and put that puppy together.
Enjoy.
DO NOT SKIMP ON THE POWER SUPPLY.
-
Thing is, this gonna be built from scrap if I'm gonna build it..cause I want my own computer..bring the computer total in our house from 2/4 to 1 2/4 thats right 2 crappy comps..
-
Well then after you go to pricewatch, go to
http://www.overstocked.com
and just buy the cheepest stuff they have.
they have a complete system emachine right now for $369.
(no monitor) That appears to be sutable for your stated needs.
-
Can't do it for under 400. Can do it for about 450 - assuming you have a spare floppy, keyboard, mouse, speakers and CD-ROM laying around. If not, then add about 50 bucks to the price of the system linked below. To add an operating system - add 90 bucks for WinXP Home.
http://secure.newegg.com/app/WishR.asp?ID=470578
I added good memory a about a 15-20 dollar premium, and a good motherboard so you can add memory and much better processors later. Biggest hit was the radeon9600Pro.
MrBill - IMO those places are only good for people who know EXACTLY what they want and how to shop for it and how to read the specs. I don't think Hawklore is there yet.

I can prolly get my OS for free, I can prolly even get WinXP Pro...
I'll have my dad scrummage through this forum to umm..."Get" ideas... Thanks so far guys.:aok
-
Right ya are BB.
However if you are going to build one you have to start somewhere. This is why I listed the cheep emachine, ... just in case the learning curve might appear to large.
Hawklore do not skimp on the monitor either yours eyes will thank you for a lifetime.
-
So don't get a big or get a big one, and why?
-
I have a pretty chitty monitor, it's big 21 inch but it's old.. When they first came it cost a billion dollars, but anyway anymore the refresh rate seems to be a slideshow.
-
All other things being equal (refresh rates, image quality, etc) bigger is ALWAYS better, assuming you have room and can afford it.
Good glass 19" monitors can be had for less than 200 bucks nowadays. Decent 17"-18" LCD monitors can be found for less than 400 bucks.
