From The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A10784-2003Nov7.html)
A U.S. Army helicopter crashed today into a riverbank near Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, killing all six American soldiers on board, an officer who asked not to be identified said it may have been hit by a rocket-propelled grenade.
Separately today, guerrillas attacked a convoy in the eastern part of Mosul, 250 miles north of Baghdad, with rocket-propelled grenades and small-arms fire. The military said one U.S. soldier died and six others were wounded in the clash.
Three others were injured later today when a roadside bomb exploded near the downtown Mosul Hotel, which is now used as a military barracks.
Thank goodness we have the situation under control.

Anyone see Howard Stern on Letterman last night?
-
Missed it.
Hows he doing?
-
I wanted to watch Howard Stern last night but a news story was on about more American soldiers being killed in the uncontrollable situation in Iraq.
-
I am beggining to like ol stern a bit... he allways seemed a little... whinny and self absorbed but now I kinda think he is funny.
lazs
-
Howard Stern is funny and his show is the best thing on in the morning.
Funny, I used to hate him before I started listening to him.
-
You have to listen to him for a bit to appreciate him. It takes awhile to actually realize where his humor is coming from.
He and Letterman really play well off each other.
-
He took my music away, I hate him. Crackhead Bob is a hoot though.
-
I enjoy his morning show, but I don't care for Robin.
She really does not seem to add much.

Robin is the Token... just like Colin Powel in the Republican party.
But at least Howard show has substance wrapped in T&A...
Too bad there are Americans dieing in Iraq... because the Neo-Nazi Republicans are spreading freedom and democracy in the world through violence and hate.

Dude, Clinton isn't president any more :aok
Hasn't been for 3 years now.
And his Oval office sexopades didn't get any one killed.
Hey you Republicans... name one great thing GWB has done.
One great law he passed... something that is irrefutably good for this country...
One great doctrine or peace agreement he negotiated...
So far he's:
ran up the deficit
spent the surplus
gave tax breaks to the wealthy
alienated us from our allies
caused North Korea to threaten war
embroiled us in to another vietnam-like war
Say something good about this guy... something...
Is he at least good to his wife... or is he still beating her?

He has something that you sadly lack....character.

"So when Clinton launches missiles to draw attention from the location of his cigar, it's peace and love?"
The title of the thread is "More Americans Dead." I'm amazed that anyone- even a right wing nutburger like Martlett- can use the occasion of combat deaths to slam Bill Clinton.

So basically you are stuck at the argument that Bush is Hitler?
You are such a damn retard....

Rejoice while you can liberal extremist, the Iraqi army is being restored and the islamic extremist can return to killing their own countrymen instead of ours. Of course there was much killing going on in Iraq before we ousted the brutal murderer Saddam so it's nothing new. Democracy and time will change the face of the middle east. Only time will reveal if it's to be better.

That makes you retarded. :rofl

Waking up and smelling the roses beats stickin your head in the toilet.....if the world were as simple as you make it out to be, then everyone would live in peace.
Stop kidding yourself before you make it a habit for life.
BTW...care to share your age? That usually helps me understand these BBS personas much more clearly than simply your spin.....also, are you an American citizen? Would like to know where you park that great attitude of yours too.

I get tired of hearing "conservatives" label everyone who doesn't agree with them "Liberals"
Rather than discussing issues... you call people "liberal".
so... all you conservatives are now "neo-nazis".... just because.
You cann't come up with one thing BUSH has done that is great for this country.
At least Clinton helped stopped the war in Yugoslavia.
At least Carter helped broker the peace between Eqypt and Israel.
What did Reagan do? Oh yeah Deficit, Irancontra, libya, and Grenada...
What did Bush Senior do? Oh yeah... Deficit, War in Panama, and Deficit...
What did Nixon do? Oh yah resigned....
In the last 50 years, this country has not yet prospered economically under a Republican President. NEVER!

Cliton also reduced the number of Federal employees by 80,000
That's smaller governement... in my opinion.
Bush Jr. has now INCREASED the size of the Federal government with the new DHS!!
Republicans say they are for smaller government... Yet with every Republican administration... comes DEFICIT SPENDING and bogus programs like STAR WARS... and MISSILE DEFENSE...
no Republicans are for tax breaks for the rich... more regulations to restrict free trade and protect special interests.... and EXPENSIVE STUPID PIE in the SKY DEFENSE PROGRAMS...
Also... the Republicans broken another law by secretly monitoring and taking a private internal Democratic memo off of Democratic network... where the Republicans had no business being.... sounds a little like Watergate.... what party was involved in that?
Was it the Republicans who broke the law?
Was it the Republicans who broke the with IranContra?
Was it the Republicans who broek the law leaking CIA information?

This will go no where because of a root hatred for Bush, but here are a couple.
Leadership....he led our nation after the worst terrorist attack in history....at a time when folks were scared, the economy was shaken and the nation needed to look to our President for comfort. I refer you to his impromptu new conference in the Oval Office where he said he had a job to do and was going to do it.
He has a vision for our nation and for the middle east....unlike past presidents both democrat and republican, this one is willing to take the risks necessary to bring about real and lasting change....will it work? I'm not sure....but I am sure of one thing....no risks taken, nothing gained.
Now, I'll sit back and read the same old tired rhetorical responses which have made the Oclub so productive of a place.

Maybe I do. You need to go back and take reading comprehension 101, though. Read what I quoted. Read the response. Then come back with a personal attack that is at least pointed in the right direction.
That's the problem with you bleeding heart liberals. You're so blinded with hatred that you can't see the forest through the trees.

OK, here ya go, from your "Pro-American" site: (typical liberal blather)
"APRIL 28, 2003, 1700 hrs PDT (FTW) -- George W. Bush proclaims himself a born-again Christian. However, Bush and fellow self-anointed neo-Christians like House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, John Ashcroft, and sports arena Book of Revelations carnival hawker Franklin Graham appear to wallow in a "Christian" blood lust cult when it comes to practicing the teachings of the founder of Christianity. This cultist form of Christianity, with its emphasis on death rather than life, is also worrying the leaders of mainstream Christian religions, particularly the Pope.
One only has to check out Bush's record as Governor of Texas to see his own preference for death over life. During his tenure as Governor, Bush presided over a record setting 152 executions, including the 1998 execution of fellow born-again Christian Karla Faye Tucker, a convicted murderer who later led a prison ministry. Forty of Bush's executions were carried out in 2000, the year the Bush presidential campaign was spotlighting their candidate's strong law enforcement record. The Washington Post's Richard Cohen reported in October 2000 that one of the execution chamber's "tie-down team" members, Fred Allen, had to prepare so many people for lethal injections during 2000, he quit his job in disgust."

I have in fact read of liberal and conservative origins. However, what does that have to do with the terminology as used today?
The 9/11 article is by subscription so I took a look at a couple of their free articles. Didn't take me long to realize that the site is full of propaganda. How can you trust anything from someone who will spin such yarn from crap and call it gold?

I think I misintrepted what I was looking at the first time I tried your link. Now I see it is a collection of anti-American articles. Here's the very first:
"Nov. 2, 2001, 12:00 PST -- On Oct. 31 the French daily Le Figaro dropped a bombshell. While in a Dubai hospital receiving treatment for a chronic kidney infection last July, Osama bin Laden met with a top CIA official -- presumably the chief of station. The meeting, held in bin Laden's private suite, took place at the American hospital in Dubai at a time when he was a wanted fugitive for the bombings of two U.S. embassies and last year's attack on the USS Cole. Bin Laden was eligible for execution according to a 2000 intelligence finding issued by President Bill Clinton before leaving office in January. Yet on July 14, 2001 he was allowed to leave Dubai on a private jet, and there were no Navy fighters waiting to force him down."
I'm afraid I will trust nothing the French have to say on the subject as their objectivity is nonexistent.

Loving the Bush Haters
Is it wrong to take pleasure in the madness George W. Bush induces in his critics? Nope.
by Noemie Emery
11/07/2003 12:00:00 AM
I LOVE GEORGE W. BUSH. I worship the man. I wake up every morning glad he is president. When annoyed by small things--traffic, the weather, an overcharge--I say to myself, "President Bush," and at once feel better. I like his worldview. I like his dogs and his wife and his mother. I think he looks cool in his shorts and his t-shirts. But it isn't these things that make my heart flutter: It's that he drives the people I hate the most nuts.
The Germans created the word schadenfreude to describe the pleasure one might feel at the woes of one's allies, but no one has yet coined a word for the happiness that can come to a person when those who annoy him complain. Open the paper, and there they all are: the hard-faced women who refer to abortion as "choice," the soft-faced male writers who look a little too pampered, the actors, the artists, the faculty hotshots, the with-it, the urbane and the urban, the concerned, the refined, the sincere.
They are enraged that someone unlike them has power; enraged because they think he is dumb, and he always outsmarts them; enraged that he pushed back when the Democrats, backed all the way by the Supreme Court of Florida, flooded the state with lawyers after the 2000 election, armed with game plans to subvert the result.
Above all, they are enraged that they can't sell their wrath to the rest of the country, which calmly remains unenraged. So, they write the same book over and over (and buy it in job lots), write the same pieces over and over, and post the same things on the web. I read them all.
And in them I find a perverse satisfaction. If, as Churchill maintains, it is exhilarating to be shot at and missed, it is also enlivening to have your opponent empty both barrels, to more or less meager effect. I read Sidney Blumenthal's mournful account of the Florida recount. I read junior writers at policy journals proclaim with no proof they are smarter than Bush is. I read them all, and I wickedly grin.
I grin because I have been once where they are, and have stood in their sandals myself. Liberals insist Bush exists in their minds as a vast malign presence, a huge psychic drag on their consciousness. I know, I know--I felt exactly the same way about Clinton, back in l999. Shortly later, I was told by a dentist that during the eight year reign of the Clintons, I had been grinding my molars to dust. "I've been grinding my teeth less since Clinton left office," I said, thinking he'd think it was funny. He didn't. His office is on Capitol Hill, and his practice is filled with political people, all gnashing their teeth in a frenzy of outrage.
It's your turn, now, fellas. Grind on!

Kappa, you wanna know whether I think you are a liberal or a conservative? Here are but a few defining issues. You can decide for yourself where you stand.
Liberal
1. Pro Choice
2. Gun Control
3. Increased government funding for social programs
4. Government sanction of same sex marriage
5. Reduced military funding
6. Rigid separation of church and state
7. No death penalty
Conservative
1. Pro life
2. Freedom to own firearms
3. Reduced taxes to allow EVERYONE to keep more of what they earn
4. No government sanction for same sex marriage
5. Strong military
6. Recognition of religion's role in founding of country
7. Capital punishment for cold blooded murderers
Of course this is only how I see it. I don't presume to speak for anyone other than myself. At least you'll know where you stand in my eyes.
-
Hmm, theres issues on both sides I agree with and disagree with.
Does that make me a Libservative or a Conserveral?

AKIron,
Thats right buddy. There can ONLY be 2 places to stand. You stand hither or nither. For so many years in this country walls have been erected to seperate the people. Whether it be by race, color, sex, political affiliation, pro-life, pro-choice, gun laws, war, taxes, classes, education, and gawd knows how the fek I could almost forget religion. Most non-open minded folks need to place peps in some sort of classification. I dunno why, I guess because its what they are programmed to. But when done, valid point or not, they are not heard.
The fact is I enjoy points out of both of your list. So what does that make me? Open minded?? Self thinker?? A patriot? Perhaps a terrorist??
This countrie's goverment thrives on fear and seperation of the people.
I just realized im wasting my time and forgot about were I was going with this. Not that it would matter if I had a point to make. I must be a liberal with nothing good/true to say, so what would the point be..................

Sheeesus man, go back and read the thread title. "More Americans Dead (in Iraq)." That's what the discussion is about, Martlett. LOL I could go back to College and get a Masters in English, a Bachelors in deductive logic, and a Ph.D in psychology and I STILL can't find the common thread between Bill Clinton, GWB, Howard Stern and Iraq.
Nothing to say? At least I can stay on topic.
Once again, we're talking about whether things are getting better in Iraq or not. I tend to think the longer we're there the worst it gets, kinda like wiping your butt with a Hula-Hoop. The reason I think that is that there's a whole bunch of Moslem Extremists who are now flocking to Iraq to take shots at our guys and they don't share GWB's vision of Democracy for the Middle East.
Call me whatever names you wish, the bottom line is I don't believe we have a snowflake's chance in Hades of "creating" Democracies in the Middle East, Asia, Africa or any other place, especially at the barrel of a gun.
Oh, and I sincerely hope I am wrong and you, AKIron, and Rude are correct. FWIW.

FWIW.
My comment WAS on topic. Again, go back and read the quote, then my comment. I don't think you'll ever understand it, though.

Apparently the self proclaimed Conservatives here don't give a Rat's Arse that American Soldiers are dying, as long as it's under George Bush's administration and they aren't the ones getting killed. Nice Armchair Quarterbacking!
The Pentagon announced that the number of Americans killed in combat in Iraq since May 1 — the day Bush stood before a banner on the carrier Abraham Lincoln that declared, “Mission Accomplished” — exceeds the 114 killed by hostile fire during the war itself, and the number keeps climbing. So far 148 good American Soldiers have died since "Mission Accomplished". This does not include over 100 deaths that are considered non-combat related.
What do the soldiers in Iraq think?
"This is the third helicopter shot down in a short amount of time. It's tragic to see people being killed like this" said Capt. Jefferson Wolfe, a spokesman for the 4th Infantry Division.
"We certainly see they are targeting helicopters. That's been firmly established in the last several weeks," he said. "What it shows is that when there appears to be a target of opportunity, those targets will be taken by the enemy."
The situation is not stabilizing, it's deteriorating. We are not changing our strategy and guerrilla forces are running amuck killing American Soldiers. Sound familiar? Remind you of another President from Texas?

BTW Iron... your john adams quote is incorrect. the word religious was not used..... If memory serves right, the correct line would be 'men of good-will'.... or maybe it was 'honorable men'.... considering the antithesis of that statement would not condon nor respect a governing body.... thereby being ungovernable.... it seems you got your quote from some far right religious extremeist trying to justify themselves...

Thats an intelligent statement.

Isnt is great? The success of the operations in Iraq are unpredecented in human history - both in time to completion and number of casualties sustained.
I can only hope every war is this successful and with this low loss of life rate.
What do the soldiers in Iraq think?
Depends. Those that I speak with are pretty upbeat, although more than one is discouraged about the lack of a united front back home. They all miss home, of course, but they have a job to do and they understand that.
Its all relative though, I imagine that Peter Jennings can find one or two that are crying about mom's apple pie and interview them.
Exaclty how many soldiers/Marines have you spoken with deployed in Iraq right now?
The situation is not stabilizing, it's deteriorating. We are not changing our strategy and guerrilla forces are running amuck killing American Soldiers. Sound familiar? Remind you of another President from Texas?
I must have missed this advisory meeting, what else was discussed?
Oh, and no to your question.

You can pray for peace all you'd like. People have been doing it for years. As long as there are Muslim extremists waiting to shoot Americans, it won't happen though.
And I know what REMF is, I don't have to ask rip. REMF is every bit as important as the man on the line, IMO.

Here's a snack.....
Liberal
The modern definition of liberal is one who believes in more government action to meet individual needs.
Originally, liberal meant one who resisted government encroachment on individual liberties.
The present-day usage of liberal came to prominence during the presidency of Franklin D. Roosevelt. FDR defined it this way during his first campaign:
"...say that civilization is a tree which, as it grows, continually produces rot and dead wood. The radical says: 'Cut it down.' The conservative says: 'Don't touch it.' The liberal compromises: 'Let's prune, so that we lose neither the old trunk nor the new branches.'"
Milton Friedman calls himself a liberal. But a liberal in the "true meaning of that term: of and concerned with freedom." Friedman says that he is not a liberal in the current "distorted sense of the term - people who are liberal with other people's money."
On the other hand, even liberals sometimes lampoon their own philosophy. Adlai Stevenson once described a liberal as "one with both feet firmly planted in the air."
Conservative
Conservatives are defenders of the status quo who, when change becomes absolutely necessary, prefer that it come slowly and in moderation.
Today the more passionate conservatives generally oppose governmental regulations of the economy. They favor local and state action over the federal authority, and emphasize fiscal restraint and balanced budgets.
William A. White, the editor, described this type of conservative as:
"a businessman's candidate, hovering around the status quo like a sick kitten around a hot brick."
Modern conservatives have also adopted a social platform to include opposition to abortion, pro-family issues, and advocacy of religious tenets. They like to point out that conservatives are actually liberals who have been "mugged by reality."

That's not what the congress says the reason are.
You should read the Intelligence Comittee report.
When Bush made no progress with the UN, he went to the congress and invoked the war powers act claiming Iraq was an immenent threat and there was US Intelligence to prove it.
So now... congress is reviewing that intelligence to verify if invoking the WPA was justified. After all WMD have not been found... there's a gap between what was said and what has been discovered to be true.
That's the big stink that's going on right now on the hill and in committee... and the White House is stalling the investigation.... Republicans on the IC are also stalling the investigation... analystist in the intelligence community are quietly leaking... "there was no intelligence" to support the administration's assertions of WMD and threat... it was stove piped and fabricated.
Right now alot of people want Bush to be right and want this war to be right. It's psychological reaction to 9/11 and lash out and hurt someone for the pain of 9/11.
Unfortunately, it's clouding people's reasons, and more people are getting killed, and people's rights are being abused.
