Beefcake,

I bet your depressed because your thinking of quitting your favorite hobby.  I went through a very bad depression when I quit WB back in Aug.

I don't think evrybody hates ya either. At least I don't.  Take a brake for a couple of days, then get your favorite ride up and go whack some skulls  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

As someone who has dealt with depression  my whole life I can only say go to the Doctor and find out what the problem is.
It`s debilitating and only gets worse if you don`t face it. I tried to kill myself twice in the last year, withdrawing from Aces High or society will only worsen what your feeling.Your a valued member of our little cyber community please don`t leave it.

Beefcake, I don't know you, but I would like to. This world of ours has enough problems as it is. Kick back, take your shoes off, laugh at your mockers. Don't worry about people laughing at you becuase they may be better at a Game than you are. Heck, most of the people here are better than me! I Don't Care! I have fun anyway. Get your butt back here dude, come on!  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

Remember, it's just a game.  When it stops being fun for you, take a break.  Watch some TV, read a book, play basketball...  (http://bbs.hitechcreations.com/smf/Smileys/default/smile.gif)

You might also try flying goons, fighters, and tanks.  I found that I had a blast with them, no matter what your skill level may be.

You might also try giving AH 1 to 2 day break.  You might find yourself longing to play after that time, or you may not.  The choice whether to continue or not should then be clear.

(As an aside to you:  My family suffers from depression too.  In our case it is due to a "chemical imbalance" i.e. too much or too little of a neurotransmitter.  There are treatments for this that can really help you out.  Trust me, there is nothing worse than being nervous continuously for no apparent reason.)

Beef,
This is interesting to me because I've been there.  Sometimes I would get so frustrated by some of the aspects of the game that I'd just let the next guy to see me blast me, and promptly log off.  Guys, don't take this as a  flame against AH, but Beef, I'd say take a break from it for a few days as was suggested.  Go do things with friends and discover new things outside of Aces High.  After playing Aces High for hours and hours a day, I'd sometimes feel horrible about the time I had wasted, and the good I could have done elsewhere in that time.
Just out of curiosity, how many of the adults here could have imagined playing this for hours and hours on end as a kid, and how many would have looked back and wished they would have tried different things, got out more, and not wasted their time in front of a monitor? That is excatly how things were going for me, until recently.  My solution was to cut my AH time way down and do other things.  Aces High is very entertaining, but it IS addictive.  I would get so wrapped up in conquering bases hour after hour, and step back after a wasted day, and say "Gee, I captured 5 bases today, but who cares?"  Again, this isn't a flame against AH or the community, but Beef, Aces High shouldn't be this large of a thing to you, because friends and family are more important by far.  The community here is great, but it can't be your only social contact.  Get out with your friends and do something, and eventually you wont be able to wait to jump back into your B17 and blast sissyfires out of the sky again.

Keep your head up Beef-Man.

Heya Beef,

I'm no doctor, but sounds like your takin it way to serious.  Maybe its exams, girls, parents --- whatever.
I think you should find something that's fun and go there for a while --- blow off steam.

If you want you should try flying with us FDB's -- this is NOT a pathetic excuse to recruit you or anything.  I literally get shot down because I'm laughing so hard and can't concentrate, we just have a ton of fun!!

Seriously my advice like everybody else is TALK TO SOMEONE! And do not take AH too seriously.

Beef.. get some help... NOW

My son committed suicide in 1992, he was 17 years old.

I'll not bother you with the problems that he had, other than he showed no outward signs of any depression to any of his friends, or parents, leading up to that day.

Just get some sort of help... ASAP

and then,, get a life.  get off yer backside, go outside and do something that interests you other than computer related.

If ya need to talk to someone, talk to ANYONE about it. Hell,, talk to me.

I'll listen and answer asap..

give me a call if ya want.

Hey Beefcake, I dont know what exactly is your problem with AH, anyway, if you want to be happier with this game:
1 - Fight for a tangible goal, not for scores.
2 - Dont check scores.
3 - If you find people better than you then you are a lucky man, you will have the chance to learn from them.

Take a look at those not as fortunate as the gift of life that you are now experiencing.  Stand back and re-evaluate your life.  Now, it's not that  bad is it?

I have a liver disease that will  eventually kill me, but I don't sulk on it, I move on with life, try to get the most out of it.

Beef.
As you can tell lots of people get frustrated about AH at times.
I sure did. What helped me was to play the game so I could enjoy it, but not expect others to play the same way.  I was selected as a trainer and that made me quite happy at first, but the part about it that I didnt like was that I was playing for free. This made me feel obligated to fly when I was not enjoying flying. I dreaded starting up AH and seeing how the gangbang was going. There is no way you are going to enjoy yourself with that kind of bent and I sure wasnt.

So I withdrew from the training cadre and mostly stoped playing for about 2 weeks. Read some books and built some models.
Stopped looking at my score.
It helped me alot to get back to how I enjoyed the game befor.

This is just to point out that you have to look at the reasons that you are spoiling the game for yourself, you cant change others and in all likly hood it is something about yourself that is causing you to enjoy the game less then you should.

As to people hating you. I have had some real fire fights and insult broadsides with lots of the primadonas in the game.(birds of a feather)
Almost without exception the mutual anger has not withstood a  private channel chat or email, some of the ones I had the most trouble with at one time or another are people I like the most in the game.  The people that are bothering you are in all likly hood smart, kind, articulate people that share your interest in Aircraft and your love of talking about them. Try to find a group on your block at home that you share so much in common with. They have alot to teach you about WW2 aircraft and being successful in the game. But you have to learn it on their terms not yours.
They also probably dont like being told what to do in the game. It should be obvios to you now that you are flying aginainst the bishops, since it apperantly wasnt when you where flying with them, that they know how to play the game and win. It should also be apperant that if you run from problems they tend to follow you.

What I did when I was learning the game was ignore the map, find the best pilots that you can, and try to contribute to what "THEY" are doing. Just accept that the overall county situation will handle itself if you just have fun. There is nothing more satisfying then clearing someones tail in AH. But you have to get on the team...and the best way to do that is to accept the goals that the team has set and contribute as much as possible.
On the rook side Sn1p3r and JadgNine and the rest of the mouskiteers are a great squad to help out and learn teamwork from. But you must accept their goals and show you can work to accomplish them, make the goal and your teammates survival the most important thing you fly for..the rest of this will take care of itself then. If channel 1 is causing you trouble then squelch it and stay off of it yourself. Map it to the team strike channel and forget about it..it is optional.
Good luck. Hope to see you in the game some time.
