:rofl
Well, that's true, but even with vsync on, I'm getting 85 fps(my monitor's refesh rate) looking out my front windscreen during normal flight. Only when flying through smoke at a field will it dip lower. And that's with 1600x1200x32@85 with 4x FSAA and 16x AF.
The Radeon is a sweet card, whether vsync is on or off! :)

That is with it on:aok
-
what make and model of monitor do you have black
-
viewsonic 19" pf790
-
That can't be with it on (if it's working). No CRT monitor has anywhere close to a 400+ Hz vertical refresh rate. (LCDs usually only refresh at around 60 Hz.) Vertical sync is probably unchecked under the Direct 3d (or 3d tab on newer drivers) tab.
-
That monitor has a 77 Hz maximum refesh rate at 1600x1200 and 89 Hz at 1280x1024. If vsync was enabled, those would be your maximum possible framerates at those 2 resolutions.
-
Ok then how do you explain it???
-
Vsync isn't enabled (or isn't working because it's disabled under dxdiag).
-
LOL you are correct sir.
Dang don't know how i could have missed that.
I set monitor refresh at 75 w V-SYNCH ON and guess what?
Thats where she stays LOL no matter what Furball smoke it dont matter 75FPS 4x FAA 2x AA 1600x1200res.
ATI Has my buisness for a long time.:aok
Thx Bloom.

For AH especially it's best that vertical sync be on. If vsync is disabled only parts of each frame may be redrawn, which can result in some odd graphical anomolies. (You usually notice when vsync is off in first person shooters when you quickly spin around and the image tears because only part of it was redrawn. In AH this tearing is noticable when changing snap views if vsync is off.)
-
LOL HAHAHAH
Black i told ya !:aok

I get those frame rates too (85 in flight, dips a bit in smoky combat). I have a Geforce3 Ti500!
Think Ill save my 400 bucks;)

Maybe so, but you aren't doing any FSAA or AF with that GF 3 card.
With the 9800 Pro, jaggies are a thing of the past.

At what resolution?
-
1280 x 1024 32 bit. No AA or AF right enough. Are they really worth it? I read that AA causes blurry text in Aces High.
-
At that low resolution there's not any point in using aa or af, but you may find you can still get 75 fps (max refresh) at 1600 x 1200 and that will make a huge differance.
-
AA does not cause the blurriness (unless you use it on an NVidia card). It is AF that causes the blurriness.
-
I have an ATI Radeon 9800 Pro, and I run at 1600x1200x32@85 hz, with 4X AA and 16X AF, and the only time I see blurry text in AH is when I've been drinking!
-
so is there any reason not to enable V-SYNCH ?
I've ran most games both ways with my radeon 7200 and I can honestly see no difference one way or the other. (my monitor is set to 75hz refresh rate if that makes any difference)
-
The reason to disable vsync is to benchmark your system. The higher your benchmarked FPS is, the less likely your real FPS will drop below critical levels in complex situations. After you have tested your unsynched FPS at various settings, turn vsync back on.
-
The only time it's ever useful to turn v-sync off is if you want to see some big numbers and don't plan to actually fly. If you ever get flamed with v-sync off you'll understand.
