It has been six years this week since the 332nd Flying Mongrels http://www.332nd.org/ opened their doors. I have made countless friends due Aces High and Warbirds.
Our squad members in these six years have shared and grieved many losses. Members have lost their jobs, suffered through divorce, lost parents and children. Some of us have shed tears of joy and pain together. I cannot begin to tell you the number of times members have come to the aid of one another for various reasons. The generosity of this group gives testimony to what we are about. A place where men become friends and friends become brothers.
I started this squad under the prompting of Al “docdog” Arline in 1997. It steadly grew for 2 years until we made the move to Aces High. Many stayed in Warbirds, but about 1/3 of us moved over. Ghosth led the charge to make the move and has been a faithful, steadfast, solid X.O. for several years now. Truly my right hand man. Yet from our newest members, Mrmidi, Falcon59, and Coyote22 to some of our oldest Wklink, Harppa, Texdog, TeeeRex, and all those in-between, each one makes it a better squad. I am blessed to call these guys my friends and am a fortunate they consider the same of me. Lastly I want to thank Ozark for hosting our site and his continued time in the managing our squad BB. :)
Our squad from its conception has focused on having fun and making friends and I attribute that philosophy to the success of the squad and to its quality members. It is rare indeed that we have had to give a member the boot, but it is not a perfect world. The members list is long, but by no means complete. Every November I post a list of current and former members and inevitable miss one or two. Members are given ranks in accordance to our posted rules and regulations which has been modified over the years to suit us best. Ranks really mean little to us, but simply show those who have been with use the longest, flown the most missions and at times have lead missions. In many instances the low rank and number of missions flown do not reflect how long someone has been a member. Many of those who are 2nd Lieutenants or Airman have been members for well over a year, but are unable to make many of the squad nights to earn a mission. Also many of the past names are well known regulars and now have their own squad after cutting their teeth with us.
None of us made the 2003 con, but here are some pictures from the 2002 Con. http://www.arff.info/Con2002.htm We expect quite a large turn out for the 2004. If I missed anyone below let me know, but after checking it twice everyone should be listed.

Man, I was thinking about saying you were a nice bunch of guys, but after reading this, I just can't muster it...
"2nd Lieutenant - Bernie "skernsk" Failing – 17 missions"
What kind of lowly squad would let this degenerate in their ranks?! :p

Heh .. so far two squads have been folish enough to accept me. The first one went all soft and 'unbastardly'. This one is being converted one mongrel at a time............

Carefull Skernsk, your still being watched & closely!
Actually the real reason we let skernsk in is we needed a new good "bad " example.
Nifty just wasn't cutting it anymore. :)
Congrats Mongrels!

GOSPEL your AWOL (Whistles for Mp's) Slap that man in irons & off to the brig with him.

WTG Mongrels. Congrats.

let's tell the truth here.... All those pansies woulda folded like a cheap card table under a fat lady if it wasn't for the draconian measures of daddog "the enforcer"... his threats of bodily harm to anyone who dropped out is the only thing keepng those sissies together. Course... I have met the man so I can sympathize.

Congrats Guys...Keep on keepin on!
-
Happy bday guys...I flew with you guys back when I flew under this name. I was in the squad for a couple weeks...still have some great screenshots when we all up'd Ar 234s. Screenshots from everyone upping with RATOs was quite something.

...not to forget about his backup forces ;) I was wrestling with him once, he was almost a goner when suddenly there were two out of three rascals in my neck yelling, kicking, scratching, etc. What could I do but surrender
Congrats Mongrels for your anniversary !!

I really don't know how he got voted in. I believe we had to count the hanging chads. Which was enough for him to get in. :aok
Hey Daddog, Can we have a Recall??? ;)
-
Hehehe....... :rofl
Wow~ Sob:lol

Skersk is a perfect example of why you check references
:D
It does seem amazing that almost 6 years ago a guy I worked with, Al 'Docdog' Arline convinced a young Leutenant to sign up for a relatively new online game called Warbirds. The names that have passed by over the years, Hudman, Woodog, Booker, Harppa, B-Town and all the others-it seems like yesterday we were all flying together.
Kinda brings a tear to your eye, all the changes over the years. I know guys with older squadrons know the feelings of watching squaddies come and go. It has been a lot of fun over the years for me. I have been active and non active but always considered myself a Mongrel. I do know that I will be a Mongrel til the day the squad ends or until we all quit flying.
-
Congrats fellas. Without a doubt, the 332 is a fine bunch of people and a great squad. These guys introduced me to flight sims in WB's. Man I remember those first squad missions on Sunday in the HA. Thos were so much fun.
thx DD, Ghosth, and all the other mongrels.

Oh yeah, I'm sorry about that. When you asked, I thought you were considering him for the position of squad fluffer. Had I known you actually wanted him to fly your airplanes my recommendation would have been different. :D
-
Hey! Quit picking on Skernsk! He is my wingman and fellow Dog!
He is a great addition to the Dogs and his humor is welcomed.
Go Brother Skernsk!!
Dogs on 6 years

There you go SLOB .. keep it up and I'll sick swager on ya. Although, you are correct in that it is shocking that they would have me. I am often mentioned in posts by the CO, more often than not it is a reprimand .. .ROFL!:rofl

Hey Daddog, Can we have a Recall??? ;)
had to be the Florida votes i do believe
But i am happy to Be here as a Mongrel and with a graeat bunch of guys..
Silent Sarge
enlist women to squad to keep us in check always...lol

I think the secret to our longevity as a squad is that we enjoy each other's company online. Every Friday night it's a regular party, with at least 15 of us on. It's a rare squad night where we don't have at least 15. Sometimes we're up to 20 online at a time. At the 2002 Con, we had the largest squad representation of 9 mongrels. Well, ten if you count Fluffy.
Daddog runs a pretty straight-laced ship, so myself and skernsk occasionally find ourselves in the dog house, but secretly I think the guys enjoy my singing and skernsk's risque' humor.
I don't think I could name one person in the squad who wouldn't give you the shirt off their back. We have a history of taking care of each other by handing down hardware when we upgrade. Recently, when one guy's PC died, the rest of the squad were ready with donations of parts and money to help that person out. You don't see that kind of commit in every squad.
This is a special group of guys, indeed. I am proud to have them as friends and squadmates.
-
OK OK, Skernsk is a good guy...keep that Swagger guy off of me! Definitely one of the 'tards that I miss flying with. Him and Argyll. Nothing funnier than a couple of Canucks swapping insults back and forth over vox. :D
-
Congrats, Mongrels. I'm sure the Wildcards could learn something from your example. WTG!
-
BTW Laz sunking is right.
Its not daddog you have to worry about.
I'm the sharp end of the stick.
We have this "good cop, bad cop" thing down pat. :)
But if it gets really bad daddog threatens to quit. We all then go crawling into our holes & tend to be really good fora while.
:)
Ammo good to see you bro, how goes it?
-
So ghosth any openings in the training group if so do tell:aok
Also Good cop,bad cop?----That is true you are very sharp like a needle head~
:rofl
-
Lazs, SOB, good to see you guys at the Mini Con in CA. :) Lazs I owe you one for the hat trick. ;)
Daddog's a teddybear.....
72 hours in a 1992 Toyota pick up with me. You would know. ;)
banana has it right on. We have an excellent group that supports each other when they can.
Sarge your right. We need a couple ladies in our group. If only Flossy was free.... She has that lovely British accent that makes my knees week.

Times flyes;). It felt like it was yesterday like I posted congrats for the mongrels 5 years post ;).
Yep as Wil said, many good old names on the last rooster :D.
