I agree, it looks more like the Ontario than the Swiftsure. The latter had more life rafts fixed to the side of the superstructure, as did the very similar Uganda and Tiger class CLs.

I'll go with H.M.S Swiftsure - few fixtures in the pic look different than Ontario.
-
hard to tell but sorta looks like a maple leaf on the rear stack.

Check the photo of the Swiftsure Class in this RCN link.

What does HMCS stand for?

What does HMCS stand for?
His/Her majesties Canadian Ship.
-
Ah, I was wondering because the Dutch navy uses almost the same thing --> HMS (Hare Majesteit) which means the same
-
HMCS = Her Majesty's Canadian Ship.
I thought Dutch vessels were something like HMNS, like where Australian ships are HMAS.
-
HMNS? Hmm...well as far as I know they just use HMS
-
The Dutch Navy website shows the name of the current Karel Doorman as Hr. Ms. Karel Doorman, which may translate to "HMS". But I also have a reference to "HNMS 0 13", a WWII submarine.
-
Was it Dutch? I don't recall having submarines in WWII
-
The Netherlands Navy had quite a few subs in WWII. They were fairly successful operating in the South Western Pacific during the first few months of the War in the Pacific.
