Title: Adding B-26's and A-20 to current CT setup + questions answered
Post by: Mister Fork on November 10, 2003, 03:34:22 PM
Seeing how this is a 512x512 map, I'm going to add B-26's and the A-20 to France. Historically they were there, so I've decided to make them available to all allied bases.

Point in resupplying - if you check the MOTD, resupplying only gives 5 minutes back.

Also, strat is always disabled in the CT. It messes up downtimes for some reason if the map isn't set up right. We'll look at re-enabling strat on a map by map basis if it's working properly in the future.

Other than that, any other issues?

Add them to the axis bases too. to represent Ju188
The B26 is unballencing in such sparsly populated arena.
Add the Mosquito to the axis as well to substitute for the Me 210-410 with cannons that can deal with bombers.

*chuckle*

Just add all the planes from both sides to the other side as well for immersion and fairplay. :D

Why don't we just all go over and fly in the MA. :D

just kiddin bud.

I'm one of those turn off base capture types too. If we're trying to recreate certain parts of WWII air combat, or at least thats what I think the idea is............. Why do we need base capture on?

I'm sure it's a cool thing in MA , even though I dont fly there, and Shane will tell ya why I dont.

However in CT , it's BS in my opinon. Most setups the Axis are totaly outclassed in bombers and attack planes. If your going to keep the base capture on when the allies have better jabo, and bomber , aircraft. Then how about only letting the Germans have the Pnzr, and Tiger?

Lt Magee , your South Georgia accent doesn't pass for the Queens English . Plus your more of a moonshine, and possum gizzards , than a tea, and crumpetts , guy. Leave the Tempest ,Typoons, Spits, and Hurris to 880, and the rest of them RAF types.
Cmon over to the 78th and grab a Pony or Jug.:aok

I think it has its place in some set ups Lowe, and its fun for the guys who like to GV. Finding the answer to the "over milking" is the problem to me.

Then how about only letting the Germans have the Pnzr, and Tiger?
Make it just the Panzer vs M8 and I think it could work. Having the Tiger would be like an arcade game for the Tiger driver.

Yes.
Tigers have such a huge advantage, they are not worth fighting against.  Without manable base ack, they can drive right into a full ack up base a wreck havoc.

Seemed that downed base objects stayed down for a VERY long time. Like 2 hrs. I hit fuel at a base, landed, logged, ate lunch, came back and fuel was still burning at that base. Asked around a bunch no one said they had hit fuel. Saw same thing a second time.

No one seems to mind when its the Ostwind being used by both sides. Why is the B26 so different.

Because one 37mm single barrel automatic AA gun shoots pretty much like any other 37mm single barrel automatic AA gun. Even when you mount it on a self-propelled chasis.

However, you can paint a B-26 "Purple with Pink Poka Dots" and it is still going to look, shoot, bomb & fly like a B-26 not a JU-188 or DO-217.

There was a time that the CT staff, for the most part, and the CT community, in general, frowned on any and all substitutions of aircraft to represent something they weren't ... especially on the opposing side. Some things are a matter of obvious neccesity. C-47 goons being available for the Axis players is due to the fact that there's no other para-dropping aircraft in the game and it approximates the various Axis (and Allied) counterparts well enough. The Panzers and Sturmies and such are shared by both sides because HTC hasn't modeled an Allied heavy tank or heavy anti-aircraft vehicle. I, myself, have recommended some subbing of some "non-pac" fighters to beef up the IJ planeset.

Now we have a setup where the Axis (German) side is being beefed up with 3 Allied bombers for balance sake in an alternate reality setup that apparently has a theme centered on bombing each other into oblivion.

And the question is .... "What's it matter?"

Versus the question .... "What's the point?"

Once the Allies had gotten a foothold on the continent there was never once a situation of "tit for tat" capability on the Axis part when it came to bombing. The Axis were in a fight for survival and concentrated their air assets and development on bomber interception and air to air.

If we end up giving the Axis side all of the Allied bombers to "facilitate balance and fairplay" in an enviroment that still favors capturing the map then I agree with Jester .... why not just shut it all down and go to the MA? *ShruG* :D

I'll agree with Pongo on one point - make base capture impossible or extremely hard. Change the focus of the map to one that presents the immersion of recreating the enviroment of escorted strategic buff formations vs. organized interdiction.

No ... in other words ... enough with giving both sides all the same damned planes and calling Fred Ethyl in the name of "game balance" with the mentality of using a CT setup to play MA "Risk."

AND ..... nix the capture. :D
