It's absolutely free. http://www.diplom.org

Be prepared to be at this a while... the game will last a good six months and require a few emails from you each week.

Nothing necessary to install. You can do it from anywhere...

First step for the first time players... REGISTER WITH THE JUDGE (http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/dppd/). Simply fill in the blanks in the top-right boxes underneath "New Here?"

The game is on! Instructions on joining can be found at:

http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/?game=aceshigh2

Send me an email to sandman935@softhome.net and I'll send you the privacy word.

RULES:

White/Grey Press- The player can choose to have any press (except to the Master) sent anonymously.

No Late Receive- Private press may not be sent to any power that has not submitted orders after a deadline.

No Late Changes- In games using this rule, no changes can be made to any already-submitted orders after a deadline has passed.

Civil Disorder- Any power that has not submitted orders: when the game's Master submits a PROCESS command, or when the deadline has passed (or, if a grace period is specified in the TIMING line of the game's status file, before the expiration of the grace period), will have its orders entered automatically. During movement phases, all units will HOLD, during retreat phases, all dislodged units will DISBAND, and during adjustment phases, all builds will be WAIVED, and all removals will be entered using random choice from among the power's on-board units, with preference given to retaining units that are situated on supply centers. (see CD Retreats below.)

CD Retreats- All powers in civil disorder during a retreat phase will retreat any dislodged units randomly, preferably into supply centers. Without this rule, units in civil disorder will DISBAND in retreat phases. Note that if neither the CIVIL_DISORDER nor the CD_DUMMIES rules are specified, all powers (whether dummy or not) will have their retreat orders default at the deadline if they have not been submitted.

Eavesdrop- The Master is sent a copy of all private press messages.

RA it's a blast.  Read up on the rules.  Don't be afraid to ask for help/rules clarifications, but think long and hard about who you ask and how you're asking.  :)

And keep in touch with everyone, every turn.  Even if it's just all BS you're talking about, keep the lines of communication open.

"Press" is the communication between players. You use the judge to communicate to other players. Once the game has started, you'll see the press menu on the DPJudge web page. It's fairly intuitive.

Country assignments will be determined randomly. The game is set for a 3 day wait for each movement phase, but I think I'll set the first move for 5 days to give you some time to get all your press out. In my experience, it seems that the vast majority of the communication happens in the first few moves (years). After that, it tends to slow down a bit as the lines of battle become more distinct.

The only real change is the addition of the no late change rule. Just trying to keep it moving. Keep in mind... if you miss the deadline, you'll still have one day to submit orders, but you'll be unable to communicate with anyone. It's possible to work around the judge using personal email address rather than standard press, but the profit of such communication is limited as orders are locked and can't be changed after the deadline passes.

From the DPJudge GUI, (http://www.floc.net/dpjudge/?game=aceshigh2), after you've logged on, look at the orders box on the right side. The submit button is at the bottome right. The press commands are in the center.

This link has all sorts of good stuff, especially the official Diplomacy rules. I can't stress strongly enough the need to learn the rules. It shows you exactly how to issue orders correctly.

Also, when you issue your orders and click "Submit Updates", the DPJudge will tell you if you have any invalid orders. You'll then have the chance to correct them.

Here's a good place to read about strategy:

Sandman, could you please list the countries and the rulers for each, so that we know who we're dealing with?

Thanks. :)

Can someone give me a sampe of a move order

I tried:

Fbre-mao

it does not seem to have done much?

A sample order would be something along the lines of "F Bre - Mao" (without the "").  You type it into the "Spring 1909 movement orders" box on the right side of the screen.  Your units are already listed, for convenience, so you only have to type the second half of the order.

I can guess at a few:

Austria = Hortlund
England = SOB?
France = GtoRA2
Germany = Sikboy
Italy = Tarmac
Russia = Flyboy?
Turkey = banana?

can someone correct me if im wrong:

If Army at point A suport an Army at point B
and Army and point B suports Army at point A

both suports fail?

so both A & B have a "power" of 1 army defending them

Not necessarily Flyboy.  You can do mutually support, but only on the defensive.  You'd order:

Army X support Army Y
Army Y support Army X

They'd both have a "strength," in this case, of 2.  If one were to be attacked, however, it would have to defend itself and be unable to support the other army (support cut).

It's not called "lying." It's called "stabbing" and sooner or later you'll either stab or be stabbed. Ask SOB about it. ;)

Yes, you'll get more troops.  Each supply center (the dots on the map in territories such as Paris, Spain, etc) equates to a unit (army or fleet).  Each winter (the turn after spring and fall movement phases), you'll re-adjust your units to match up with the number of SC's you control*, either by building new units or by disbanding excess units.

And no, presses are not binding in any way, just like real diplomacy.  A treaty is only as good as the power to enforce it.  But obviously, you'll piss people off by breaking them, and probably get involved in a war over it.  :)

*ed: you "control" a supply center by being the last power to occupy it through the winter adjustments phase.

There are 3 phases to a "year": spring movement, fall movement, and winter adjustments (no movement, just building and disbanding)

Cool.

 So will the troop centers just produce or do I have to tell them?

 Is there a way to say I am done so we could move on faster?

Can you have more then one army in a area?

Sorry for so many questions.

OH PS how serious do we have to be? Hmm I am not trying to say I am going to do goofy stuff to be a wacko but is it bad for to make an ocasional Joke like

"Italy, I will order all the women of France to shave their pits, if you are willing to have the women of Italy shave the middle of their eyebrows. I do this in good faith and it should result in much good will with all nations" Kinda thing?

The new units will be produced only in your home supply centers.  You'll have to order it, to tell them where and what to produce.
Don't check the "wait until deadline" box.  If anyone checks it though, we have to wait until the end.  You can always go back and uncheck it.
You cannot have more than one unit in an area.

IMO as being a game master, the biggest mistake people make is not communicating enough with everyone, including their enemies. I have seen instances where a country who is undecided about which side to take, ends up going to the first side to be friendly with him.

You attract more bees with honey than with vinegar. :)

SOB, your biggest mistake happened in the very beginning. You weren't communicating much, so while you were silent, the rest were plotting against you.

My rule of thumb....communicate, communicate, communicate.

Sandman had a concrete plan right from the beginning.  Your proposed plan was "kill germany."  The lack of a good plan from you made me think you were insincere; while sandman's plan showed thought and dedication to wiping you out.  :)

i have another question, didnt found an answer to it in the rules

lets say country1 attacks point A with a "strengh" of 3
point A is being hold by country 2 with a "strengh" of 1
and country 3 allso attacks point A but with a "strengh" of 2

if i understand it right then:

country1 moves in to point A
country2 is disslodged
country3 fails in it attacks and holds
Title: *diplomacy* Aceshigh2
Post by: Tarmac on November 18, 2003, 10:37:13 AM
Correct, Flyboy.  Although country three's army would not technically hold; that's called a "bounce" when a move order fails.  But the result on the map is the same.

Make sure your "wait until deadline before processing" box is unchecked if you want the turn to go faster.  If everyone unchecks theirs, it will go to the next turn immediately.  If one person wants to wait, we all have to.

And we were given 6 days on the first turn to have time to handle our initial diplomacy; it would be wise to make use of it, since the next few turns will probably feel pretty rushed.

IMO, the initial round of negotiations sets the tone of the game, and friendships and enemies made in the first two years can become permanent.

Communicate, communicate, communicate! :)

Yes, in fact the same holds true when trying to attack and capture a supply center of another country. Even if you capture the supply center in the Spring turn, you must hold it by having a unit in posession of it in the fall.

For example, let's say Germany attacks France and captures Paris in the Spring. It doesn't officially become a German supply center until after the fall turn, so the German unit will have to defend itself against a French counter attack in the fall.

In your case, if you just wanted to pass through your ally's country without capturing his supply center, that is possible. Just make sure you're not on his supply center after the fall turn. You won't have an ally anymore! ;)
