I don't get it.
Why is this airplane only $50,000?
Is it unsafe?
Of course, it must cost a fortune to operate. Is that the reason it's so cheap?

its probably a mait. hog....just an example in my current feild of expertise. This thing looks like it has an ejection seat in it. If you fly this in the US the FAA requires you to maintain all the time change items to include explosives for the seat. Nowadays if its not a martin baker or an ACES you will have a tough time finding the components and will probably have to have them "special made" most explosives have a life span of 2 to 7 years before they require replacement. VERY EXPENSIVE! other than that it look beautifull!
they do however, have a few AC that are more to my liking and eaqually out of my price range:

Its most likely the operating costs.
Early jets are total gas hogs. Not to mention the insurance on a high speed plane like that. Someone once told me that the yearly operating costs on an aircraft like that could easily be 2 or 3 times the initial costs of the plane. But I'm not sure if thats true or not.
I remember just a few years ago, on the same website, you would see MiG15's and MiG17's for the same price range $50k-$100k.

Agreed. Its like coffee makers...its cheap to buy, but what you put in it is expensive.

I don't know if I read correctly, but does it say it has a 50 hour potential? If that's the case, no wonder it's so cheap! A complete overhaul of that kind of bird must be in the vicinity of the tens of thousands.

like I said earlier just the egress components alone cost 10k - 15k a piece. and that's just for a manufactured one.

sorry no pix...this auction has been retracted by the seller for marrige safety reasons. She didnt think this was as funny as I did but I think trading the wife for an airplane was a good deal

Another possible problem, you may not be allowed to take it anywhere.
The college I attended last year had a Provost jet trainer sitting in the hanger. Due to some FAA regulation or other, the plane could only be operated for purposes of "pilot proficiency" and could only go in and out of it's home base. It could only land at another airport with special permission from the FAA.
oh, and it burned up $500 worth of fuel an hour.

I talked to the doctor that owns the Hunter of Chino. The guy told me he never flew it for the years he owns it because he cannot find a 2 seater to get checked out.:rofl
he just comes on the week end in his fighter pilot suit and washes his Hawker Hunter.
60s jets are really inexpensive, u can buy L29s, Fougas for 35K-50K.

muck, if you want the particulars, contact them. Thats what they are there for. You can find out time til next insp and what level of insp plus what time/life items are up.
It hasn't been flown in 11 years....I'm going to bet you $5 the ejection seat explosives will have to be replaced, as gunslinger said. Oxygen bottles, fire bottles, all safety equipment will also be due. 2700 hours on the airframe...no word about last inspection...its prolly due too. Avionics, too (but that will be cheap if it all works)...I bet it leaks fuel like a sieve (hey, I can fix that for a small phenomenol fee!)
so you buy it for $50 G's and $200 + G's getting it airworthy (if at all)
On the other hand...40 hours since major overhaul on the engine....its prolly worth $30 G's by itself (if there was a buyer who needed one)...you could sell the frame for static display and come out $10k to the good :)
Heck go ahead and buy it.....we'll strap some bottle rockets to the seat and install a home fire extinguisher and walkie talkie for ya....
