Title: TV Tuner Software
Post by: Dinger on November 14, 2003, 04:25:40 PM
Anyone got any good recommendations for a TV tuner?  I made a mistake and bought the MSI PC@nywhere tuner card.  Now I'm stuck with poorly functional software on the thing.

I have the same problem with a pinacle stereo tv tuner, Crashes every 10 minutes forcing a reset, corupts data on HD almost every time. The last time I tried to use it It damaged the mobo and cpu. I also have an older win tv card that never gives any trouble whatsoever. Go with win tv.

thanks animal.  This card has a CX23881 chip in it, which is not supported by dscaler.

showshifter "works" but I need something with software deinterlacing.

And a reminder to folks: buy the LeadTek winfast 2000 or whatever it's called.  Don't get this dog.

Why would anyone buy another brand than Hauppauge?
I've been using WinTV NICAM/FM TV-card for years with WinME, Win2k and WinXP without any problems.

First, I said a made a mistake.
Second, I bought it because I couldn't find my old Hauppauge Card.
Third, when I had the Hauppauge Card (on a previous machine), I did have stability issues with it.
Fourth, the hardware is superior.  As far as I know, the only Hauppauge card currently for sale that doesn't use some version of the (Conexant/BrookTree) BT878 chipset is the their HDTV card, which uses the (conexant) CX23880.  HDTV ain't supported in this part of the midwest. The card I purchased uses the CX23883 chipset, which is the 23880 without HDTV support (and hence $150 cheaper).  If you'd rather see the docs, see http://www.conexant.com/servlets/DownloadServlet/101550b.pdf?FileId=701.

The video quality I get is far superior in video and audio quality to my old Hauppauge WinTV Theater, and to my previous solution (=the one between the HP and now) of using a ViVO card and a VCR.

The only problem is I can't get decent software.  Oh well, I guess I wait for Dscaler to support it.

Well i use a "LEADTEK WINFAST TV2000 DELUXE"  Great card.  Make sure your tuner card is not sharing an IRQ that will cause alot of problems!
