Title: What is Your GDP?
Post by: Shuckins on November 15, 2003, 03:06:24 PM
Just out of curiousity, how about we post our gross earnings and take home pay.  Throw in as much personal information as you're comfortable with, such as:  age, years of experience, occupation and current status within your company, party affiliation, educational level, etc.

Kind of be interesting to analyze a few statistics.  See if there are any coorelations between income and politics, etc.

Regards, Shuckins

Age:  50

Married:  two children

Gross earnings:  $37,500

Net earnings:  $24.400 after all payroll deductions.

party affiliation:  belong to no party;  conservative leanings (But you already knew that, didn't you?)

Occupation:  Public school teacher;  26 years experience

Education:  B.S. and M.S.E. degrees, with approximately 50 hours in addition to these.

I've shown you mine.   Now show me yours.

Regards, Shuckins

Hmm, well, lets just say that I lived comfortably when I was making $4.50 an hour as a single roofer, and live comfortably today.  All within its own respective definition of comfort vs income ratios.  When you start out in the gutter, it just gets better from that base line. :)

Sad that Educators and Nurses make so little for what they do. My family is comfortable, but for the level of responsibility both professions entail, the salary isn't commensurate. Shuckins has Grad/Post-Grad degrees and makes ~$19/hr. Now depending on where you live that may be alright, but I'm sure he is deserving of much  more. As Nurses, my wife and I will break 6 figs if we work REAL hard.

Two years ago I passed up my wife in income.  As hard as she works, as talented as she and her fellow nurses are, you are certainly right...underpaid and overworked.

I don't know how you guys (teachers) can survive at that level of pay Shuckins.  It's crimminal as far as I am concerned.

I'm not going to post how much I make, but by way of comparison my annual mortgage payments are substantially more than your gross pay.  No bragging...just a fact.

Politically I am a conservative.

I have a degree in Political Science and have a CPA and CA (Chartered Accountant) designation.

Poor student, no money.. :(

I'll get back to you guys when I graduate next year and hopefully have a real job. Go economy!!!  :)  I dont know what I will make then but if the economy was crazy like a few years ago kids outta school were taking in 80K or up... :( We'll see where it goes next year...

As for teachers salaries, subjectively they really are shockingly low to me considering the importance we as a society supposedly put on education, however I shudder to think how low the real market value of those jobs would be as even the current low wages are most likely artifically high due to union collective bargaining... miko mode off...

Politically I'm all over the place. I can be a right wing nutter at times, as we all know but also as I'm sure I have surprised many of you here I also hold some more liberal views at times. Does that make me a moderate?
