Please try to avoid flaming. I am just curious to know what all people think should be server-side filtered out of the public channels.
As of now, there is a small number of american english profanities that are banned from the public channels. Over the past few days, people have requested many more things. Here is a list of what I have heard people ask to be banned, please say if you agree or not, and if you any more suggestions.
Things to be filtered out of the publich channels from server-side...
#1 - A full list of American English profanities.
#2 - A full list of profanities from all other major languages
#3 - A full list of American English racial slurs (you know them i wont say them)
#4 - A full list of racial slurs from all other major languages
#5 - A list of words that some people find offensive, regardless of cultural significance of the word (Jap, Gerry, Yank, Brits, Canucks, Aussie, Ruskies, etc.)
#6 - A list of words like #5 but in other major languages
#7 - Squad names that sound german, or squad names copied from actual german military names
#8 - any historically accurate squad name
In addition to a simple word filter, there have been many many people who have asked that certain topics not be discussed at all.
Topics that I have heard people ask NOT to be discussed are
A - World War II History
B - World History
C - Religion
D - Politics
E - Sex
Your thoughts and suggestions would be appreciated.

Well, i think its a fair topic, this isnt about whether you disagree or agree, its simply a poll to see what all people think is offensive and should be banned.

Nuttz,
program a controller (Saitek PC-dash, MS Strategic Commander, Voice Commander) to type that word for you.
Also, when you are responding, use the "reply" button on the bottom of the page or delete all od some of the quote.
Unintentional quoting makes the thread harder to read and people with modems suffer because of the DL time.
I suggest you use the "Edit" button (one with the pen) and delete the BotaBing's quote from your post.

I think that HTC should state that only things directly pertaining to the AH should be sent over the public (#1, country) chanels.
Even if not offencive, off-topic clatter interferes with the game.
If I open a Bridge club and you come here, occupy a table and start drinking tea, I would ask you to vacate the table so that bridge players could use it.
There is an Off-Topic forum on this board.
As for the stuff people find offensive, that's easy. Count how many people would leave/not join if certain things are allowed and how many would leave/not join if they are not allowed. Then ask if you want to loose any money over the insencitive SOB.
HTC already made that choice and it's pretty clear.
RAM,
Polls and complaints are never useless. How would HTC know what we want? They are the most responcive gaming company I know.

I believe that was the squad name that sent ALOT of people into a frenzy on this board. It was a real German military unit, and apparently (from the mess it caused) a verra notorious one at that.
IMO this one falls into the same catagory as the arguement over Jap, in that it's subjective to the listener's opinions. You say Jap to me and I understand it's short for Japanese, not some kind of racial slur. Waffen SS is just the name of a real German military unit from WWII. Niether has special meaning to me one way or the other.
And for those who'd ban these right off, the lessons of history are best remembered, lest they be repeated.

Maybe you should actually read what Bot said. He stated that this is what other people, not necessarily him, have objected to. I have never seen Bot post anything declaring a problem with any german named squad. I have, however, seen many other people mention it.
Maybe you are the one who should F%$@ off...

Actually, nothing should have to be banned from AH. All this filter/banning stuff hurts HTC's business and causes all sorts of problems among the flyers.
What should happen is for people to use some common sense and just stop all the antagonism with trying to bypass the filter, naming their squads or themselves with offensive names, etc.
We are choosing to get filters. We are choosing to get the vote mute. And we are choosing to get whatever else happens.
We are bringing all the restrictions down on ourselves. We are forcing the issue. And we can stop it. All we have to do is stop the behavior that provokes the restrictions.
It is our choice guys - not HTC's. Pyro and HT both said they don't like doing this.

I beg to differ - if you look through all the threads on the subject there are very few people who can't get a reasonably uncomplicated fact that they live in a society and need to respect this society rules.
I guess the majority is simply not affected in any "negative" way - they just see fewer cusswords and, from that point of few, are benefiting...

Oh no, I am not in any way agruing against the filter as in real life we had a bunch of players who were quick to abuse the fact that there was no filter. They made the filter necessary and I understand and support the decision to implement the filter.
I was speaking in the broader sense. There shouldn't have been a need for the filter in the first place. As Pyro pointed out, working on the filter took them away from other work. We basically screwed ourselves by forcing the filter.
That's all I was saying.
