From The Washington Post (http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/articles/A42722-2003Nov14.html) :
DeLay is soliciting donations between $10,000 and $500,000 for three separate fund-raisers for the organization. Those who contribute could get tickets to a party with a national musical act, entry to a yacht cruise, private dinner with the DeLays, tickets to Broadway plays or a chance to watch President Bush's convention speech from a Madison Square Garden luxury suite. Contributions are tax-deductible
"It's unbelievable that Republicans believe it's appropriate to exploit vulnerable children in order to pay for a luxury suite for President Bush's speech, parties and luxury cruises."
Strange that the Republican party suddenly became concerned about the disadvantaged until Campaign Finance Reform laws were in effect. If there was any doubt about the sleazyness of the GOP, it has been affirmed.

Well its obviously all a Haliburton, Bush plot to hurt that angel of the downtrodden Saddam.

bass-tard neo-nazys, how dare they raise money for children, don't they know only democraps can do that?
-
OMG those NEO NAZIS......how dare they do that....there republicans there not supposed to do anything good for people. Then the democrats baseless smear tactics wont work.
they cant donate 75% to the charities and use 25% to cover the costs not keeping one dime of that money. If they do that republicans cant be blasted for taking money from children. WAIT democrats can blast them anyways with out any foundation of fact and it becomes truth....i forget how they operat.
RPM I'd say nice try but this was such a lame attempt. keep trying though dont give up....we cant let those neonazis look good.
PS my favorite line in this article is this one:
Republicans say they vetted the idea with lawyers and the House Ethics Committee.
THATS MORE THAN HILLARY DID WITH HER STUPID BOOK

Richardson said the goal is for 75 percent of the money raised by the convention events to go to the children's charity, which will provide grants to local children's organizations.

So basically rpm the above information blows your reactinary thread out of the water, DeLay has been very active and commited raising money to these causes for years and this is obcviously not some new found intrest for him as he himself has been a foster parent and helped disadvantaged children.
All BBS BS aside i think it would be very good of you to retract these satements and apologize for your insulting remarks. At least own up and admit you were off base.

You know better than that Grun.

But Democrats said Friday that the charity fund-raisers are way for Republicans to get around legal bans on so-called "soft money," unregulated contributions to political parties
Using organizations that can provide tax deductions for donations is likely to become more widespread in the 2004 elections, said Frances Hill, a University of Miami law professor and taxation expert. The trend could start diverting money from charities to people with power and bring about a connection between politicians "for rent" and charities, she said.
DeLay and the GOP are not doing this to help the children. They are pawns in his scam to skirt the law for big money contributors to get the ear of politicians AND get a Tax deduction while they are at it. Even conservative journalist George Will said this was unethical on ABC's This Week after it was first announced.

Sure its about money, advertising. Still, someone has to punch that ballet (or, touch that screen). No money involved there. (Unless you want to count the Dems bussing the homeless to the booths, or handing out free cigarettes).
