You should have quoted some lines about the operation of that american death squad to attract attention, otherwise few would care to read those articles.

FYI, Tolede Blade is a newspaper owned by one wealthy family. They do not care in the least who they piss of, which is why they gave their reporters support and resources to do the research on that story.

Many names of people now living are in the story.

Quote
Women and children were intentionally blown up in underground bunkers. Elderly farmers were shot as they toiled in the fields. Prisoners were tortured and executed - their ears and scalps severed for souvenirs. One soldier kicked out the teeth of executed civilians for their gold fillings.

Two soldiers tried to stop the killings, but their pleas were ignored by commanders. The Army launched an investigation in 1971 that lasted 41/2 years - the longest-known war-crime investigation of the Vietnam conflict.

The case reached the highest levels of the Pentagon and the Nixon White House.

Investigators concluded that 18 soldiers committed war crimes ranging from murder and assault to dereliction of duty. But no one was charged.

The Tiger Force case is different. The atrocities took place over seven months, leaving an untold number dead - possibly several hundred civilians, former soldiers and villagers now say.

One medic said he counted 120 unarmed villagers killed in one month.

"We weren't keeping count," said former Pvt. Ken Kerney, a California firefighter. "I knew it was wrong, but it was an acceptable practice."

"It was out of control," said Rion Causey, 55, a former platoon medic and now a nuclear engineer. "I still wonder how some people can sleep 30 years later."

You drop 18 year old kids in a country where killing is a way of life and then you train them to kill.
What do you think they are going to do?

Not to make excuses but that war was a vey nasty war for everyone involved.
Some have called it Hell on earth.

Sometimes some members of this board leave me not only dumbfounded, but also flabbergasted, stupefied, surprised, and thunderstruck :(

What about their officers and their brass who silenced those opposing to slaughter?

Not to make excuses but that war was a vey nasty war for everyone involved.

That's the whole point - the civilians were not involved in any way untill soldiers came in (to their country and their village) and murdered them.

the sweet thing about free-speach is it allows people to 'out' themselves.

He probably ment is as a sarcasm - like that was a position of US administration and military brass.

It is true that our administration is very casual about the casualties we inflict on the other peoples.

miko

good advice,  without being able to hear someones voice you can't pick up on a sarcastic tone.

unfortunately there are enough people who would have said that seriously that it isn't readily identifiable as sarcasm

This event was a well documented war crime as were a few others but for the most part does not reflect the majority of US involvement in VN. My father was a camera man during this war. He filmed alot of death and carnage on the front lines. Bacically thats what he did was film dead people as they shot at him or towards him. I dont think he was ever the same. I've heard some of stories about some of units from some people so bloody I know would never read about it any where. The books can sometimes be very tame compared to the stories. Anyways, still the VC were a bunch of murdering bastards in regards to villagers. This sort of thing was common for them. Im glad alot of VC and NVA died.

The politicians of the United States were not the first and will not be the last people to ever use their military in a fashion that is immoral. Sure those people knew what they were doing was wrong but they really didn't have a choice. They had an order to do something and they did it. I am pretty sure that those men have their regrets even now and I know that many of them probably live with the nightmares to this day..
