Title: New plane for FS2004
Post by: Biggles on November 18, 2003, 02:40:59 PM
For those of you who fly FS2004 (or 2002) I've uploaded my just-finished Culver Cadet (http://library.avsim.net/esearch.php?DLID=39383&CatID=fs2004ac) to avsim.com (http://www.avsim.com). It's my first effort, so feedback and constructive criticism is welcome. :) Here's a pic:

Didn't take long for one of the esteemed corn flake urinators to whip out his equipment.

I'm not surprised. Guess I shouldn't have asked for constructive criticism.  :D

You mean, you can't see that 37mm under the cowling?

Based on the fact that I don't have a clue how you did that ... I'm impressed.

Ok Capt. Apathy as hard-core ANTI I must say that your post's on hunting have got me to think twice about hunting.  I'm even thinking about trying it out.  I mean hell I love pork rinds.  Any live in Michigan that are will to take me hunting ?  No deer hunting though.  I'm think some bird..like turkey.  Maybe it would be fun??  I still think we should re-introduce wolves into eco-system and stop large mammel hunting...but what the hell.

Thanks, Furball, and everyone else. Still tweaking the flight model. It has seemed a bit nose-heavy to me, so I've adjusted the CG slightly (in aircraft.cfg) and it now flies hands-off at cruise speed, with no more tendancy to lose alt. Learning a lot as I go. It's fun!

Is a vc included?

Suggestion: Visual impact sells.  How about a flying swan or the female "winged victory" figure in silhouette at the front of the white stripe?  Something to jazz it up a bit. Maybe a white stripe around the cowling.

Also, maybe a civilian registration code on the fuselage would be cool, just to make it less generic.

Add some details, like stenciling around the cowl hatch and a max passenger weight warnings around the canopy.

Other than that, looks ok for an MSFS plane.

One more thing. How about adding an antennae just behind the cockpit?

Yes, Virtual Cockpit is included, complete with moving rudder pedals and sticks (this plane has dual controls). The pilot and passenger doors open and close (after you see the latches turn 90 degrees to the open position!).

I went with a simpler "visual impact" mainly 'cause I'm new at this; and, I was following a real-life paint scheme of an existing cadet. Otherwise I might have added some of the flourishes mentioned in the previous post. I might add a Narco style antenna behind the cockpit. I've seen pictures of Cadets using those.

To answer my own question, yes it does have a virtual cockpit.

Very nice work for a first model. I like the functionality of switching engine on and off from vc. Would also like some switches for battery, and nav/collision lighting. Also the stick is a bit to close to my crotch, needs to be moved forward.

The leading edge slats make for a very stuntable plane, just watch airspeed. Easy to overspeed.

Again, nice work!:aok

Glad you like it! I'll add a master (battery) switch and a lights switch when I update the plane. Thanks for the feedback!

Ah! Ok, that makes sense then.

How about some modifications like this?

I think it has a bit more visual punch to it.

Yea, I agree. Good pic. I've saved it and will see what I can do. Definitely more of a visual punch!

Looks like an old-type EAA sticker and an AOPA sticker just forward of the canopy.
